Samurai Shodown (That's not Showdown, a mistake a lot of people make) was one of the first fighting games where characters used actual weaponry (In this case mostly swords) instead of their fists, feet and body in order to beat up others. The game is of course samurai-based, with very distinct graphics and audio. While the sequel to the game (Which is upcoming) arguably improves on the first a ton, it's still very much worth checking out. Note that this game originally had an "uncut" and "cut" version - This is the uncut one, so expect fountains of blood!
On WiiWare, today you will be able to download Block Breaker Deluxe and Cocoto Fishing Master. Check out WiiWare World for more info.

About time you guys got this game. Would have been cooler if you got Alex Kidd too though (since us europeans got 5 games this week).
Pretty good week if you ask me! I won't be downloading any of the games today, if only because I still have many games left to finish, and I still need to save some money for Toki Tori . Samurai Shodown is great, gather a few people and make a tournment, it's awesome. I'm not sure about Block Breaker Deluxe, not my cup of tea... and Cocoto Fishing looks pretty good, and seems like a cool game for your little brother or cousins. My 6 year old cousin loves fishing in Zelda, I'm sure he would love this even more! Too bad it's not 500 points, still... I might just get it for him. But, wait... do I have any space left for downloading more games?? Exactly, in the end I'll have to pass all these games for now
I guess it could be worse. I'm sure some folks will want to download a game or two for this week, but I am not one of them. Fortunately for me, I bought Age Of Conan for my PC, and its bloody gorefest keeps me highly entertained.
One freakin game! That isn't a good week. Good job Nintendo, you ain't getting my points this week either.
At least you got one game for each service
Snooze. Boring on the VC and WiiWare. At least we got Blast Works last week. All my time has been spent in the editing modes and downloading stuff from Blast Works Depot. For me, personally, this is the best use yet on Wii's online capabilities. (Sorry to hijack the thread, there.)
US gets shafted again. IMO. This game doesn't appeal to me in the least. And I won't be buying any wiiware games until the storage situation is fixed.
I prefer to get SSII.
Oh, what a bummer! I was hoping we'd get Yoshis Island this week.
Samurai Shodown....ha, how about Samurai Letdown!
I'm sure it's a decent game though.
I'm liking Samurai Shodown. It'll probably stay on my channels until the second one is out. I'd personally think this was a good week if I was an American.
We DO need a storage solution if Nintendo expects people to download anything further...
ONLY GEEKS AND OTAKU DOWNLOAD MORE THAN FIVE GAMES!
Maybe they will treat us like they did Europe and give us 4 or 5 games next week. That's probably just wishful thinking though.
Samurai Shodown (That's not Showdown, a mistake a lot of people make)
All these years i've got it wrong...wonderful.
We DO need a storage solution if Nintendo expects people to download anything further...
Why do you think the releases have slowed recently
You guys that keep saying you won't download anymore games until Nintendo fixes the storage solution are making me sick. I'm sorry but that Is pretty lazy of you. What if they never choose to give the Wii a harddrive or something?
Are you just gonna never buy another VC game again? You might as well sell your Wii if your not going to make good use of it. Anyway, I might check out Samurai Showdown. I've read alot of good reviews.
So much nostalgia from playing this at the local roller rink's arcade... I, too, have always misspelled the title. My life has been a fraud.
If I bought this, I'd likely move the (crappy) King of Fighters '94 into SD cold storage.
Samurai Shodown (That's not Showdown, a mistake a lot of people make)
Well then they should have spelled it correctly in the first place. =P
SS is a good game for geeks and otaku.
I'm still waiting for kirby dreamland 3 I'm sick of nintendo bull now they will remain releasing one or two vc games a week what happen to three or four games a week?
Everytime you mention storage an angel gets its wings
Forget 3-4 games a week... why aren't we getting 100 games per week? Better yet, how about every C64, SMS, NES, SNES, Genesis, N64, 32X, Sega-CD, TG-16, TG-CD, and Neo-Geo game ever released—tomorrow at noon! If Nintendo doesn't give us that I'll cry in my soup and never buy anything ever again.
Storage... I remember SS from the arcade back in the day.. Good game that ate lots of my quarters... I liked the weapon combos!
Wow and uncut as well.
How many great games have yet to be released...
Nes- 700+ / Neogeo- 150+ / Super Nintendo- 100+ / Nintendo 64- 300+ / Sega Genesis- 100+ / Turbo graphix- 100+
So that's like 1500 games. If by miracle Nintendo decided to release just 2 games from any sytem every week until all games were released that would be.... like 15 years. Sounds like a long wait.... Okay now let's take away all the great titles from companies Nintendo will not work with. I only have one thing to say and that is " Where's Conker!!" =)
Nintendo has been out about 2yrs now so that means we have 208 great games to choose from. SWEET!!!! only 13 more years to go!
"everytime you mention storage an angel gets his wings"
I don't think there are many angels left who need wings if this statement is true.
I really don't get it. A Samurai Shodown Anthology of every single 2D iteration is slated for release this year, and Metal Slug Anthology has been out for quite sometime, yet so many people who are following the VC closely have been eating up the releases of games in these series. Save some money guys! Buy the complete packages, so that you don't have to get each one individually and dig deeper into your pockets!
@nate: Just because of this week? I think not. If you get only 1 new Wiiware game after a month then maybe
@Ski Deuce
One game from a series is enough for some of us. Anthologies are great if you're going to play them quite a lot, or are a particularly huge fan of the entire series, but not everyone is or will be. Plus what the guy below me says about controls. That too.
@Ski Deuce. Metal Slug anthology is nearly killed by the controls (the nearest to non flawed include having to shake the remote to throw grenades shudder or using the gameucbe controller and stuck with the unresponsive analogue stick shudder...of course the D-pad works...for everything but in-game).
Samurai Shodown Anthology isn't out yet plus some people might be using this as a rental in effect (I don't know about the US but here in the UK it seems nowhere offers Wii game rentals).
At least this single release is a good game. Not my cup of tea but I'm sure there are many out there who'll be happy to get this one. It seems pretty clear to me that the VC situation in North America isn't going to improve anytime soon, if at all. I know we get more Wiiware releases but I find it completely unfair that it has to affect Virtual Console in this territory. I mean, VC was one of the biggest draws of the system and up until a few months ago, I'd say it lived up to it's promise well enough. Now it seems like they're phasing it out, while in Japan and Europe it's thriving.
@Jogurt the Yogurt: You hit the nail right on the head!
I'm seriously considering getting Samurai Shodown even with the Anthology coming out. I know I should wait but it's kind of a ways off. And I want to have the extra satisfaction of playing one of my favorite fighters on my Wii.
"You guys that keep saying you won't download anymore games until Nintendo fixes the storage solution are making me sick. I'm sorry but that Is pretty lazy of you. What if they never choose to give the Wii a harddrive or something?"
Yeah, I too am prepared for the worst. Even weirder still, I ended up filling up the allocated Mii slots on my Wii last night and had to transfer some of the crappy ones to one of my Remotes, and there's no way Nintendo would fix that as Miis could be disposable.
On the other hand, even if Nintendo don't do the harddrive thing, the least we can do is make good use of the SD slot (and I know some people said that the transfer from the card is slow but it's better than nothing at all as far as I'm concerned). I'm sure we won't be biting the dust, as the USB ports are there for a reason (I've only used one so far and that's for a remote docking station) and we could very well see some major peripheral additions in the near future.
Still, this game looks interesting. The weird thing is that I've never played a Neo-Geo game before (shame on me!) but it does look like something to research on before making a move on it, if only to serve as a reminder of my Street Fighter 2 days
"Samurai Shodown (That's not Showdown, a mistake a lot of people make) "
Actually that's an SNK mistranslation. SNK was never good at translating their games. (Watch SSII's opening, almost makes Zero Wing look good)
Didn't you guys just announce that an SNK Anthology was announced for the Wii? Any news if that's comming to the US too or just the EU?
damn, i was hoping for a game that's worth it for me to use up my last batch of points... oh well. maybe nintendo will release a gem next week
Wow, 3 more shovels for the shed. Wiiware and VC are starting to look like a freaking gardening store.
Samurai Shodown is hardly shovelware...
"Forget 3-4 games a week... why aren't we getting 100 games per week? Better yet, how about every C64, SMS, NES, SNES, Genesis, N64, 32X, Sega-CD, TG-16, TG-CD, and Neo-Geo game ever released—tomorrow at noon! If Nintendo doesn't give us that I'll cry in my soup and never buy anything ever again."
I'd sign up for that, LOL!
Samurai Shodown is a great game, but it is going to be available in both the Samurai Shodown Anthology and Snk Arcade Classics vol. 1. And I'm really getting tired of these one game weeks. What kills is that a lot of Genesis titles have been announced that I really want to download. Where's Earthworm Jim, Phelios, Shining Force 2, Splatterhouse 2, and Strider?
I'm reluctant to complain because I happen to be an avid fan of SS & recommend it to fighting game fans. It's probably my favorite non-SF fighting game of the era. That being said, I already have it on my Genesis (it's actually one of the reasons why I even kept it all these years) & I've already been eyeing the planned anthology.
But this version would be the superior uncut NeoGeo version & it would effectively hold me over until the antholgy is released later this Fall... assuming that happens on time.
Regardless, I just don't get why Nintendo has been so skimpy on VC releases. Especially after EU got 5 titles last week.. Just 1 title, albeit a great one, is pretty weak comparatively.
I don't know. The anthology is probably a better deal in the long run considering how much Wii Points cost. The hard drive solution is going to be simple enough. Maybe they'll just make a Firmware update that allows you to hook up an external storage device, Nintendo made or not. It'd be cooler if Nintendo could create a way to drag and drop channels too, considering those who have to delete and download new titles. I had to delete 6 games for 1 WiiWare title...And about the angels getting their wings, they've just notified me that if we keep saying the dreaded "s" word, that they'll be more wings than angels to use them...
And for those who are whinging about the single release, be thankful, they could've not given you a single release at all. It's 1 less game to wait for. Does anyone know when Zombies Ate My Neighbors is coming?
Does anyone know when Zombies Ate My Neighbors is coming?
If internal files within the SNES VC games (its emulator) are observed it is noticed the game list (presumebly a list of games tested implying they would come out though its quite strange in places as it has Donkey Kong Country 2 listed twice but the second time its just called Diddys Kong Quest) has some titles which have had * added to them.
Looking at the titles in question it is clear * means "not planned for release, whatever the reason". Zombies is one of those. And given it was eons ago since it was ESRB rated i'd agree. IIRC Lucusarts own this and they seem to hate anything that isn't Star Wars these days...
To give a glimmer of hope Super R-Type also had a * by it and...its out. And before anyone ask off memory these are the other * titles:
-Super Puyo Puyo (just get it on the Megadrive, Japanese)
-Super Bomberman 3(guess Hudson don't want to canibalise the WiiWare version)
-Illusion of Gaia (Square-Enix think this is profitable still? Could also be due to the game scenario being written by an author and as such this is technically a reprint and so royalties which could kill any profitability...)
-The PAL verison of Pac-Attack (its out in America and all so I don't get it at all...)
-Picross NP (Picross DS makes these pointless)
"What kills is that a lot of Genesis titles have been announced that I really want to download. Where's Earthworm Jim, Phelios, Shining Force 2, Splatterhouse 2, and Strider?"
I'm with you for Earthworm Jim and Shining Force 2 (even though the original had cool concepts but felt way too short and linear). Don't forget Sonic & Knuckles; if there's time spent getting Lock-On together with it like with the original cartridge, then I can at least tolerate the delay for that
AAGGGGH, do I want to wait for SS2 or get both. >.<
@Bensei
I realize you guys have less than half the wii-ware games we do but like I said earlier, just wishful thinking. But I still prefer vc games over wii-ware games even though that has nothing to do with the argument.
Most of our WiiWare games suck, so Europe can't complain. Especially after they got 5 VC games last week.
SS is a great game, as is SSII (my favorite 2D fighter), i've never played 3,4 or any of the others though.
This is absolutely not shovelware and I got it as soon as I heard it was coming out. It may be worth waiting for the anthology or SNK arcade classics for most people though. I was just happy to be able to play the real version and not the watered down super-nintendo version, there is a world of difference, I can't imagine how bad the Sega Genesis one sucked....
SS looks good. I am happy that it is the uncut version.
I bought SNK Arcade Classics Volume 1 for my PSP... So I probably won't be buying any SNK titles on the VC any time soon. SS is still a good game tho. I am still a little disappointed about the WiiWare and VC release this week tho...
Oh... Forgot the game shout.
1) Conker's Bad Fur Day.
2) Perfect Dark
looks pretty good, sadly i dont have the wii points at the moment. i'm not to sure about wiiware though considering i didnt hear about those games untill i saw the update
SNK Arcade Classics comes out in less than a month, I will just buy that. As far as storage space goes, I got room for a few VC titles still, but WiiWare is out of the question. Not like there's anything I want other than Toki Tori, which I already have. And lately I have enjoyed hitting up used game stores (Not Gamestop, real game stores) buying old games. I got Pilotwings for 6.99! Nintendo, you lost 8 bucks because you took too long, sorry.
Not that I intend to get this, but hooray for uncut editions! (Wish Nintendo had VC-released the original "uncut" version of OoT...)
damnit.... they really need to use weeks like this to give us Vectorman or Mega Man... or something else the rest of the world has had for a while...
BAWWWWWWWWWWW it's not Earthbound/Super Mario RPG BAWWWWWW I haven't heard of this game despite it being pretty well known AWWWWWWW Horrible week, Nintendo sucks, I'm selling my Wii. WHINE!
@MrPoo6321
Interesting enough, Japan doesn't have either of the Mega Man games also, but you're right in that there really is no excuse for us NOT to have Vectorman by now. Esbecially when we are getting 1 game release weeks so often now.
I think Wii Ware releases should be made separate to the VC after all it was the VC that made the money... I didn't know Yoshi's Island was the cards as a VC release, I hope Pilot Wings and Mario Kart will be released soon. I hope Europe gets a good VC title this Friday.
Are you saying last week was bad? Or are you saying that we need a repeat of the goodness that was last week? Whichever, it's stuff like this that make my Friday mornings all the more special.
And no, Yoshi's Island doesn't have a rating yet. Though, I hope it will because it was a beautiful induction to SNES gaming for me
No. last week's VC releases were OK, I down loaded Alex Kidd just to give it a go. I stay up until 12pm for the VC releases and some times it is not worth staying up for, I can't be done with Wii-Ware. I just think it's time for a really big game release, maybe...
Downloaded Samurai Shodown and playing it for the first time, impressive graphics and gameplay is just as good, I also have this on SNK arcade classics collection for my PSP which is soon to be released on the Wii as well.
Isn't this going to be part of that SNK compilation disc that's coming out soon? It sounds like a good game, but I'll pass this week.

"Not that I intend to get this, but hooray for uncut editions! (Wish Nintendo had VC-released the original "uncut" version of OoT...)"
Since when was OoT edited. Some of the glitches were fixed, but other than that, it's the same exact game.
@BB
"Later versions of Ocarina of Time featured minor alterations in the final build of the game after its initial release. These alterations included the removal of a Muslim chant in the background music of the Fire Temple and the moon and star symbol that was on the Mirror Sheild and other objects scattered throughout the game (signs, blocks, etc) for their Islam references. The moon and star symbols were replaced with a more generic one instead. Ganondorf's blood was also altered from red to green" Wikipedia
Sorry if this is off topic, VC...but its BB and Draygone's fault.
2 more Mondays left for this month. Let's see how they both fare. We'll decide then if this has been a good month.
"Don't forget Sonic & Knuckles; if there's time spent getting Lock-On together with it like with the original cartridge, then I can at least tolerate the delay for that"
. . . is there something wrong with picking up the Sonic Mega Collection? It would be way cheaper than Sonic 1, 2, 3 and S&K combined on VC, along with all the extras and other games. And it does the "lock-on" feature thing too. I guess if you only own a Wii, some might somewhat dispute the quality of the backward compatibility . . . or maybe I really am a severe minority that cares about the quality of a port/emulation.
@ Adamant
Yes, it looks/sounds good--I might download it. Though I own 60+ VC titles (my wallet is screaming in pain) I, along with most of us, can't afford to buy absolutely every single game that comes out--even if it's good--and that's why most of us, I suspect, usually wait for particular titles we want. And when only one title comes out a week from a combined library of thousands of games . . .
Does that explain a little bit why the re-waits can be kind of painful? If you don't mind my asking, do you download everything ($$$), or not mind in the least something you didn't want comes out and you end up downloading nothing? I'm just curious.
Personally, I'm on fire to play Ys Book I+II. I find it kind of crazy that almost half of the Turbo's library (I think) is out, but not one of its absolute-strongest titles. Meh.
On storage solution, I don't see why Nintendo couldn't release a little USB Hard-drive and redo the whole channels thing.
Anybody notice how huge the SSBB save file is? And you can't transfer that to an SD card! There goes another 120+ blocks on that fifth-of-a-gig system memory.
No, it doesn't kill me to transfer files all the time to and from the SD card . . . that doesn't wear any hardware out, does it? But it really does seem like bad planning, when many people apparently don't want to spend thirty bucks for one (and you call yourself hardcore! BAH!) and are actually being conservative about spending money on VC titles on account of the ridiculously-low system memory.
Hmmm, does the fact that a genesis/turbografx game hasn't come out in a while worry anybody? I'd hate to see support for the VC to die this early.
@Virus - I share that worry a little bit. They'll have to get to them again sometime, right? I guess they don't....but hopefully we see more good stuff get released in the near future, for those consoles and the others too...
I could be wrong but I think the last SNES game was Super R Type way back in March
@brooks83 - You're not wrong, we've gone exactly three months without a single SNES title. And it's really aggravating.
". . . is there something wrong with picking up the Sonic Mega Collection? It would be way cheaper than Sonic 1, 2, 3 and S&K combined on VC, along with all the extras and other games. And it does the "lock-on" feature thing too. I guess if you only own a Wii, some might somewhat dispute the quality of the backward compatibility . . . or maybe I really am a severe minority that cares about the quality of a port/emulation."
As you stated, I only have a Wii; are you saying that there was some alterations to the presentation in comparison to running it on a GameCube? And even if it does sound promising, it sounds awkward just playing all five platform Sonics 20 times each just to get the lock-on stuff (20 times on Sonic 3D Blast? Is that legal?). If I do consider Sonic Mega Collection, then it'll only be considered if A - S&K doesn't get released on the VC, and B - it gets released without the lock-on stuff.
A pretty crappy week for both VC and WiiWare.
I said it once and i'll say it again Samurai Shodown is a good game well worth the 900 Points. Shame its another 1 game week again.
And yes when are you guys getting Vectorman? We had it since April 2007. Besides you guys have Axelay and Super Mario Bros 2: The Lost Levels.
@Rexy. Hey Rexy, sort yourself out with Sonic Mega Collection! Its terrific fun+value for money! Yeah you have to do the crappy play it 20 times or something to unlock the S&K lock-on, but what happened me was, I didnt even know the lock-on was included. I was just playing away as normal one day and Kablammo! you have unlocked such&such! So itll probly unlock itself for you before you have to go looking for it. Also, youd more then likely find it for £20 today so its a bargain really. Only thing is, you have to use wobbledy GC D-Pad, thats the downside.
Well, I already have Sonic 1 and 2 as part of the Sega Mega Drive Collection on the PSP but if I think of it this way, £20 shared out among 5 instantly accessible games and a bunch of extra bits does indeed sound promising considering a Genesis title on the VC costs the equivalent of about £5.60 each. I don't think it'll be my next GC purchase though (yay Baten Kaitos!) but it can be something to think about.
Well when they say "play 20 times," what it really is (the most stupid unlocking prerequisite ever) you just select the game and quit 20 times--you don't even have to play it, just hit the back to menu option before the title screen boots up if you want. So it's simply tedious and doesn't involve playing at all, and the laser in your machine will be doing lots of grinding back and forth (loading/quitting the game over and over).
I was saying, I'm a huge stickler for the quality of ports/emulations/backward compatibility, and someone looking to compare how a GC game runs on the Wii will notice slight inferiorities--enough to make me hold on to my GC and not sell it for like twenty bucks. I suppose I'd sweat it a lot less for older stuff, tho. (Also note, Sonic Gems is GC only and has Sonic CD--easily the best Sonic game IMO).
I actually have the collection for the Xbox, but I think the GC version also has Ristar (which is nothing to sneeze at, and it's on the VC) and Comix Zone, among quite a few other Sonic spin-offs.
I see what you're saying with the backwards compatability. Yet, even if the Wii might creep in a few mistakes from time to time, it generally seems to be more polished than its current gen rivals, no question about it. I haven't owned an actual GameCube so I'm pretty much in the dark concerning presentation comparisons here, though the few GC titles that I've ended up with so far don't seem to show any glaring issues to me.
I'm unsure about looking into Sonic Gems though - I've been meaning to play Sonic CD since I never got the Sega CD to begin with, but I also heard that the version on Gems is the PC port (which received a lukewarm reception as far as I've read). I don't know whether to wait if Sega CD support comes through on the VC or consider it as an option though.
@deadly.by.design
Maybe one game is enough, but in either case, Samurai Showdown really only serves as an introduction to the series. If you're going to go with one, it's probably best to research and try to figure out which game is the definitive one. Plus, $9 is one high rental price.
@ Starwolf_UK
You may be right, but there are solutions. If you own a game, in most countries anyway, backups are allowed. Thus, you could play the games on your computer. There is also this really awesome site called retrousb that makes NES and SNES controller adapters for the WII and PC as well.
@Rexy
Nothing is "glaring" if you aren't accustomed to a game on the GC and then start playing it on the Wii (I actually have a 60gig PS3, which actually has the PS2 chip in it--THAT's when perfect backward compatibility is really going to happen). The system architecture of the Wii is so little different from the GC (it's about one and a half times the power of a GC, and almost completely the equal to an Xbox1) that they just run it off the Wii hardware--no extra chip. Super Mario Sunshine didn't look as bright or clean, for instance. I suppose for old, 2-D stuff like Sonic even I wouldn't sweat it though.
As for Sonic CD, I don't know anything about versions . . . except that I loved playing it on Sonic Gems. I know that "Sonic R" on that disc is based on the PC version, which is cleaned up compared to the Saturn version (I thought that was stupid-but-enjoyable game), and Sonic CD has the US and not the Japanese soundtrack. As far as I'm concerned, though, Sonic CD is really the only Sonic game that deserves to be mentioned in the same sentence as any of the main Mario platformers. (Many reasons--FINALLY doing right with difficulty balancing, a cool stage interactivity with past/present/future stuff that led to different endings . . .)
I thought I would share this quote from 1.up.com's Andy Keener in the retro roundup article. The retroroundup article is a weekly review of US virtual console games. I think he is dissappointed with Samurai Shodown being the lone VC game.
"This week, Nintendo decides to give the Virtual Console some space so as not to outshine the spectacular WiiWare titles. Thanks for being so thoughtful, Nintendo! Not like your horrible, cruel European branch, which released five VC titles last week. Man, it would sure suck to live there. "
Well I wrote to Nintendo of America... here's what I wrote.
Hello, I know I am just one man but I just wanted to let you know that I am
feeling seriously disappointed by the game release history of the Wii so far.
1) Shallow use of online support... its been almost two years??
2) Slow Virtual console release. At the current rate it will take 13 years to have a diverse game library. Very little 3rd paty support.
3) The first two issues have been virtually ignored by Nintendo for to long.
Last, I know the company is not trying to compete with other consoles but if
Nintendo does not step it up soon then my business will be elsewhere in the
future. I have been a fan of nintendo since childhood so I hope things are
being done to adress these topics.
HERE IS THE RESPONSE...
Hello,
We appreciate your comments concerning the recent number of Virtual Console
games that have been released. Please keep in mind that there are various
factors involved with releasing older game titles on the Wii's Virtual
Console. We average about 10 new Virtual Console titles per month, which means
that some months will see more than 10 new releases and others less than 10 new
releases. I will, however, be sure to share your feedback regarding this issue
to the appropriate personnel for further review.
Sincerely,
Nintendo of America Inc.
Megan Rubin
@Cally: "If you don't mind my asking, do you download everything ($$$), or not mind in the least something you didn't want comes out and you end up downloading nothing? I'm just curious."
I don't download everything (got 47 VC games so far), and in fact didn't download Samurai Shodown either (not much hard drive space left, and I want to see what the SNK Collection emulation is like), but I got a positive enough attitude to not complain when a week with no interesting games go by, especially when these are popular games that I know interest a lot of other people. Also, I like trying new games, so weeks with nothing even remotely interesting are very rare.
@ Adamant:
I suppose I envy your positive attitude, then, since it's totally the "watched pot never boils" thing for those of us who get excited about certain titles (that we either played back in the day or wanted to). And granted, the releases aren't really scattershot either--most of them really are classics that people would want or (likewise for me) wouldn't mind giving a shot, although it's a tough pill to swallow: when the VC was first announced, and was a considerable factor in the Wii's appeal, and I, personally, never dreamed that I'd be waiting this long for completely unaltered versions of old games (and sans extras like in compilations). It's simply disappointing . . . I thought the wait for stuff would mostly be over within a few months of the Wii being out. And for the most part, it totally could have--unless I'm badly mistaken, the ESRB does NOT rate unfinished products, even if it's an unfinished emulation, which means all those rated are ready to go. And look at how fast Earthbound got on that list.
Speaking of which (I'm referring to the write-ins at NP), the squeaky wheel gets the oil, no? (at Nintendo) Granted, whining without being productive is annoying, but I don't have to have a "bad attitude" to make some noise and try to inspire some change, do I? (Like in will's case, maybe?)
At any rate, I can certainly respect a positive attitude.
I think most of the games that come out for the VC are decided by Nintendo of Japan. I write to NOA sometimes with my requests for the VC, but I usually put it in a letter of praise on how impressed I am with Nintendo. The response I get in the letter usually says they will pass it on to others at Nintendo. And then it has the typical stock answer about the VC.
I wonder when Nintendo will release the next SNES game for the VC...
Its good that they're focusing on WiiWare - cheap, original, highly entertaining & disposable; gaming!
WiiWare is in orbit & theres nowhere it can't go!
I love the fact that I can download whatever I've bought anytime & once support for mass-storage devices becomes available (its inevitable!), I'd wager unique MMO's will be too.
It'll be interesting to see what companies like Bioware & Blizzard North have in store; for what is essentially a service they've geared they're gaming houses towards from the getgo
Zelda online? True FF online? What about a real Mario world? or AD&D. Massive Multiplayer, NEW retro stylin'! Subspace is an excellent example that imo would be better homed on WiiWare.
