Nintendo's take on the "toys to life" concept — known as amiibo — is finally here, and like so many Nintendo fans over the world we've been having some fun with these amazing little figures.
For those who haven't had a chance to see what these awesome mounds of plastic can do, let us educate you with this introductory video explaining what you can do with amiibo, right now. We see how they interact with Mario Kart 8, Hyrule Warriors and — of course — Smash Bros. Wii U.

Cool! Can't wait until my SSB gets in. It was put on back order...
What an adorable dog!!
looks awesome
I wonder how they work with Captain Toad.
Got my first amiibo today, but still have to link my Link (sorry, couldn't resist...) to all the games.
Still if I have to be honest I'm not that impressed, so far the concept seems cooler on paper than in action >.>;
Anyway nice video, I'm sure everyone agree we need more videos with that lovely puppy ^o^ Ack... that's definitely a cute buddy to play with, much better and more cuddly than a plastic amiibo XP
@Guybrush20X6 if not stages (which would make them money with amiibo's), then I think it is possible that there will be outfits
My Amiibos are on the way! Cant wait!!
@BakaKnight I'm sure Tommy will barge his way into more of my videos, alongside the many other animals we have here (my fiancé helps to run an animal rescue right here at home!). In the meantime, Tommy has his own Twitter (TommySpins) and Facebook (www.facebook.com/tommyunstoppable)
Got my Samus amiibo today! Its great!
I have Link but haven't used him much. Been too busy with grad school to try it with Hyrule Warriors, the main thing I wanted it for. I did try one 3 stock match of Smash with a friend and my Link, and it surprisingly jumped to level 10 from one match. As for Mario Kart, I booted it up to play with my sis today and the Amiibo icon reminded me I could use my Link and unlocking a Mii costume was surprisingly satisfying, considering I don't like using Miis. It actually tempts me to collect them all, there's something about NFC that just addicts me...
And here's how Amiibo works with Smash Bro. 3DS on the New 3DS XL.
It doesn't.
That's apparently coming next year.
@midnafanboy Wait until he's finished with that Link... his nickname is Canindorf, just so you know.
Yeah, Amiibos are a no-brainer as far as I'm concerned. Relatively high quality figures in great poses for $13 ($10 for me), that add costumes and weapons and fighters and who knows what else down the line, that works with MK8, Smash, Hyrule Warriors, Captain Toad, Mario Party 10, Yoshi's Wooly World, Kirby Rainbow Curse and many more to come, not to mention all the 3DS games they're going to give you content for, it's just a no-brainer. Some content is better than others, but when you're getting it for dozens of games (and it will be dozens- plural, once 3DS gets support) there's really no reason not to buy them.
Did Nintendo pay off Skylanders for the concept?
It seems Skylanders will be out of business before long, thanks to Nintendo.
My dog is the same breed but more cuter :3
I got Samus, Link, Mario, and Fox today. I don't have a Wii U yet but I am a collector. I'm looking forward to the 2015 lineup.
@andrea987 Canindorf?Ha!That made me laugh more than i should'ave.
@RupeeClock It's so stupid. I recently bought a pikachu figure (my marth figure hasn't arived at my local eb games yet) and the guys at the counter said it would work fine. I came home and got the exact same problem. Good one Nintendo! Market your new 3ds saying it has NFC compatibility and don't utilize it! Thanks for wasting my 36 Australian dollars.
Got my Link, they hadn't even priced it yet in store (tho I knew what it's going to cost there, 16.99e) Opened Spinner for HW and tested it on SSB. I'm such a bad player, I kept losing to it (I named it pew pew.. of course wrong choice for swordsman, for Samus perhaps it would have suited better )
...I have to say looking those Amiibos - those looked cool. Samus, Pikachu, StarFox... I don't know if I have to buy some other Amiibo for hubby if he cannot wait for his MegaMan.
Call me crazy, but when you used your Samus figure on MK8, I expected you to select the Samus outfit for your Mii! Oh, well.
@Ras I have no idea why I didn't select it either, thinking about it. I was half asleep, to be fair
@AceStudios 36 AUD???
What a ripoff. These figures are like $12.99 here in the states.
They are a lot bigger than I thought they would be
@RupeeClock @AceStudios I guess amiibo will probably be compatible after the update that allows you to play as Mewtwo if you have a download code.
@StarDust4Ever : The retail price for the figures is actually AU$17.95 (US$15.17). They must have bought two figures.
The cheapest price at the moment though is AU$14 (US$11.83).
