Shin'en's FAST Racing NEO has been in development for what seems like forever and we've heard - and seen - very little of the Wii U eShop racer so far.
Thankfully, that has changed today as the developer has kindly shared some screenshots - taken from the Alpha version of the game - to the official FAST Racing NEO site, and boy, do they look pretty.
Don't take our word for it, though - you can cast your beady eyes over the screens below:
We've also been in touch with the studio's Mandred Linzner and he's outlined some key details on the racer that's on the way at the end of this year.
- It'll run at 60fps (frames per second) and 720p
- It'll support 1-4 local multiplayer
- Online racing and online rankings will be included
- The first footage will be shown in June.

... give it to me now! Would buy it of the shelves! Bet the June video gameplay will be at e3...
Wow looks fantastic. 2 hope. I hope they actually release this one in Australia. And they better hope Nintendo don't unveil a new F-Zero on Wii U, a true step up from GX with 40 players online, 60 fps and 1080p... But I'd still buy both if that happens, man I hope that happens haha!
@afroevan Me too!
Nintendo should have just commissioned them to make fzero, i will almost certainly be picking this up tho
This game has been on my radar since I first heard of it , loved the first one and now knowing that this one will have online makes it that much harder to wait ..
[boosts internally]
I can't wait to see footage of it.
#needwantmusthave
If this ever gets release it'll be the final nail in the coffin of my PS3, which only ever gets powered on for Wipeout HD nowadays
Gorgeous. Can't wait to see this in motion.
wow looks amazing. cant wait for a video. e3, aynone?^^
"It'll run at 60fps (frames per second) and 720p"
And yet they post the screenshots in 1080p. Guess they used a PC for that.
Ah well, this is looking pretty beautiful regardless. I hope we see it at Nintendo's E3.
Looks lovely, hope they get some promo support from Nintendo.
I also hope there's some interesting gamepad use to differentiate it from its inevitable Steam/PS4/XBone version.
Definitely excited for this, it looks great.
I really, REALLY hope this turns out well. There's a few low budget futuristic racers in development but I don't think we'll see another AAA one anytime soon.
@Jenraux Well Wii U does Awesome Upscaling, remember?
WoW can't wait for this already on my must buy list if the handing matches the graphics.
I see this, makes me kinda not want to see F-Zero at E3 this year in case it steals its thunder, it looks so beautiful!
A Indie studio can make a game run up to 60fps with 720p while the Devs for Project Cars can't even make there game run on the Wii U....Hmmm, something's wrong here.
Lokks great, though the colours do look a little dull to my eyes
Lokks great, though the colours do look a little dull to my eyes
@afroevan I don't think we have to worry about Nintendo making a new F-Zero, they're too busy with Wii Music U and more Wii Sports.
On a serious note, this game looks great! Can't wait for the gameplay footage at E3.
Pretty!
@kereke12 They focused on the Wii U, so they optimised the game for the console. Project Cars was probably targeted to the PC/XB1/PS4 so it probably has more detailed graphics, which is harder for the Wii U to run at an acceptable frame rate.
In any case, I'm looking forward to seeing it in action. The screenshots are full of blur.
One of my most anticipated games. Anyone who want's an Awesome Arcade racer just buy the damn game when it's out guys. Awesome developers, Quality games over the times, very supportive towards Nintendo platforms. Now all Nintendo fans have to do is be supportive towards them and lets stop crying over Project Cars, FAST Racing Neo is where we should be commited. Lets show some love FAST!
Wow, that's more than I expected from this, even from Shin'en. Good work, guys.
@Morph A missed opportunity for sure.
YAAASSS! So looking forward to this! I genuinely said out loud "That is beautiful!"
Nice. Let's hope Shin'en invests the spit and polish required to make a great game.
Slightly Mad can just shove Project Cars Wii U down their thoat! (just kidding;) )
I can feel the hype! Shin'ens the only indie developer that can really take advantage of hardware and display stunning graphics! ^_^
Art of Balance and Nano Assault Neo was already jaw-dropping!
Finally something from this game and worth the wait. Woot!
Greatly looking forward to WiipeoUt. It looks amazing.
Everyone, give @Manfred an applause for his hard work of making this game!
Cannot wait for this!
I guess this will have to replace Project Cars. Looks really good though.
@andrea987 Thanks a lot but the best is yet to come i think
I dunno what's making me drool more Neo or 90s Arcade Racer!! Both are day one for me!
Still hoping tho that Nintendo brings along a new Fzero and/or wave race for wii u at some point!!
FAST Racing was my absolute favorite demo on the Wii. This should be a blast (I may actually purchase this one).
Looks awesome! I hope Shin'en have some news for 3DS too comes E3. The fast racing genre is lacking in 3DS, they could fill that gap there.
I remember Fast Racing League for the Wii being really fun. The lack of an online mode was a dissapointment, so it's good to have that here.
Finally! Been a long time since that screenshot last September, or was it the September prior? Either way, it's been a long time coming.
Physical release would be excellent for this game, but I'll take what I can get.
Alright! Wipeout for Wii U!
P.S. How about we no longer talk about that dead racing project whatever... Like God of War and Halo, it ain't comin' to the U. (Besides, let's stop giving them free publicity, no games, no publicity)
Reminds me of Wipeout and that's a good thing.
I am soooo looking forward to this!
Please be released in aus/nz. This is my type of game. Nobody should worry about polish with shin'en games, they are up there with Nintendo on that front. Possible contender for game of the year
This looks fantastic. Can't wait to see the game in action. I hope Shin'en are considering a retail release for this - I'd certainly pick it up.
This and 90s arcade racer makes my heart beat faster!
I hope it doesn't have weapons in it. I like my futuristic racers pure
Looks awesome! We're in June now, give me my video footage already!!!
this looks really cool im not much a fan of f-zero or something like this, but i like to try this out!
@kereke12 Project Cars is 1080p and has a huge graphical power requirement compared to this,
@Marlowe1877 Their twin stick shooter was released here - I tried the demo but I wasn't a fan of it. This looks more my sort of game, and while I didn't like their other game, I can appreciate their dev skills.
I'm liking what I see here.
Also; it looks like they may have removed the unnecessary orb collecting stuff—which wouldn't upset me one bit in the slightest
The orb collecting was the one thing that always just looked and felt slightly awkward and out of place in FAST Racing League imo, and I always wished it would go back to a slightly more pure future racer, along the lines of F-Zero, without all the superfluous stuff. I'm not too bothered if there's still some kind of 'state changing' in there but hopefully those orbs are indeed gone—or at the very least there's an option to turn them off and just race "pure" style.
I'm also liking that the HUD/GUI seems to be kept as nice, simple and clean as possible, unobtrusive basically, which I'm also in support of.
In light of Nintendo not getting of its *rse; this could be the "F-Zero" game we've been waiting for...
Edit: Oh no, wait...I see orbs in there
Well PLEEEEAAAASE at LEAST give me the option to just RACE without all the orb collecting. Just the track, me and my skillz...
Just add a "Read music from SD" option and I'm fine. (Wipeout 2097 ost, of course)
Looking great, hope the video in June does the screenshots justice.
This may be another day one purchase.
I've spent more money on my WiiU these last few months than I've spent from its release. There are so many titles on the horizon that I've penned in for a purchase.
Insta-buy. Always glad to see a developer put this much heart and sweat into a project. For any system. Games like these are what makes this a great industry, so I'll absolutely be supporting.
The graphics look very impressive!
This is the closest it seems we will get to a new F-Zero on Wii U for the time being...
Absolutely can't wait for this!
Might preorder it too if the release date is soon.
@teoulas That's deliberate speed blur though obviously.
Hype!
My, my! This looking very promising! Seems like the long development cycle really pays off!
I'm not usually into racing games (aside from Mario Kart) but this looks pretty great. It's definitely on my list.
Im still saying it will get the F-Zero branding in E3. It will. If I say it enough times it will come true.
All now together.
Fast Racing to F-Zero, Fast Racing to F-Zero, Fast Racing to F-zero.
It will happen, I just know it.
Looks a lot more like Wipeout than F-Zero to me, but any thing F-Zero-ish is welcome at this point!
Retail coming soon, I hope. I can't believe a non-Nintendo game has 60fps. This is how you put effort into games, third-party devs!
A must buy for me. I hope folks aren't planning on supporting it ONLY if it costs $10 or less. This game is likely to cost a bit more than that, but what do I know?
This is one eshop game that I could justify paying a premium price for.
Looks terrific. I love Shin'en and I have bought most of their games. I will certainly pick this up. It should satisfy my F-Zero craving!
Shut up and take my money!
There's no point in Nintendo making F-Zero if this games coming this year. It looks fantastic and I hope it is shown off at E3 this year.
@C-Threep I can see myself paying 40$ for this, sure I could pay 50$ too but that would be pushing it for indie dev.
Am I wrong? Or does this actually look better than Wipeout HD Fury on PS3/Vita?
The heck with Project Cars, FAST Racing Neo is where my money is for.
@Manfred this is already looking incredible. I can't wait to play it!
If those screenshots arent manipulated (which is dont think), Shin´en set the bar for graphical quality again
I hope this gets the support it deserves ! And i hope that one day, ill be able to shove 50+€ down your lovely throats for a full retail release :3
Looking great! Looking forward to seeing it at E3.
They had made one mention on their twitter about finally getting it to run in 1080p, but I'm much more interested in the art and the tempo, so I am cool with them going down to 720p.
Them wizards man. How many organs do I need to sell to have this game NOW?
@DiscoGentleman
There's a difference between working exclusively on one platform and using all resources on it and working on multiple platforms with resources spread thin and with one platform in particular being completely alien.
Pretty, pretty, pretty, pruuutie good looking game.
Extreme G, Wipeout... I wanna have Fast Racing Neo!
By far one of the Finest tuned studios in the business. It's insane how well they make games look and play.
@kereke12 and adding to what @A01 has already said, you can't compare an arcade racer with a full blown racing simulator with a highly advanced tyre model and physics that are necessary to make the game as realistic as possible. And since FAST Racing NEO has floating rocket ships instead of cars, the comparison is already somewhat off to begin with.
@kereke12 bit of a difference.
Lush visuals. I think Project Cars should drop the complex physics and go arcade on Wii U. That way they could keep the graphics pretty.
maybe I've not been paying attention, but I don't remember this looking half as good when I last read about it! Exciting!
My F-Zero sensors are vibrating!!
@Project_Dolphin Besides the graphics, the handling and physics alone require the full capacity of two CPU cores and the Wii U only has three, so even if they downgrade the graphics, the experience of being a sim racer would also be far removed from what they want it to be. Heck, even the other two consoles are struggling with the game with all the real time effects switched on, and that is not just the graphics. I also can't exactly appreciate how Slightly Mad Studios went about it with the Wii U version (that supposedly ran just fine with the older tyre- and physics model) but at least I have a slightly better understanding of it now. They should have thought things out a bit better before making any kind of promises, but what's done is done.
i want this so badly... like i need it NOW!!! please?! ;D
Wii U GOTY contender?
I imagine this will fill many Wii U owners F-Zero fix for now. Can't wait to pick this up!
It looks pretty cool !
Almost as if Nintendo should just buy this game and rename it to fzero. Cant wait for this.
@Project_Dolphin To be fair the PS4 handles it admirably. The Wii U simply doesn't have the power to run complex physics. I doubt it could even come close to handling GT6.
Project Cars should be simplified for Wii U. Make the game more arcade like and save as much of the graphics as can be done. I doubt Wii U owners would be able to get to grips with 'simulators' anyway.
WipeOut was my first Playstation game and I loved it. I'm very excited to see a game like this coming to Wii U. I hope there will be some weapons and boosters on the tracks (not just basic racing).
@afroevan it's OK. You can switch your store to UK and buy it there. Not sure if the region will impact online though.
This is how I purchased flowerworks in Australia...
FRN has been on my wanted list since it was first announced, so it'll definitely be a day one purchase.
Any details on why it couldn't be 1080p? If anyone pays attention, Xbox One and PS4 were also having troubles running full 8th gen games(not cross games like Ghosts) at 1080p and 60FPS, with there usually being a trade off between the 2(resolution and framerate), so asking why this is, is relevant in that regard.
this game is a only-download game ? :v
This game looks so AMAZING! I'm definitely going to be picking this one up!
I bet this will be like $30. $20 would be a really good deal for this, IMO.
As long as it doesn't use weapons (a-la WipeOut) and you can race against a full grid of 20-40 or so crafts, I will be a happy camper.
Every time I look at this I have to remind that this is the alpha version and it looks this good. Game's not even gone gold yet, this is gonna be sick. Great job @Manfred keep up the good work.
...wow the graphics really do look amazing huh...hope the gameplay is good though
This is the type of news that makes want to get up and dance!
... or at least find and post a gif of the Doctor dancing.
Oh I hope this comes to the eshop in Australia.
I played the first game and went back to F-Zero.
@kereke12 there is, namely that this is arcade and Pcars is a sim
Those 4K textures are looking good!
Can't wait to hear some of the music
