Pokkén Tournament is really beginning to drum up some hype, now that it's been officially confirmed to be coming West. The Tekken-inspired Pokémon fighting game certainly appears to be blast; with vibrant visuals and fast-paced, dynamic action, it's certainly a game that Pokéfans will happily lap up when it lands sometime in spring.
A little while back, Namco Bandai held a Twitter campaign wherein fans were asked to vote for the Pokémon they most wanted to see added in to the game as a support character. According to a post made by the game's Japanese Twitter, it appears that the votes have been tallied and the character has been decided. All will be revealed on 10th December alongside a brand new playable fighter announcement.
What do you think? Who will get voted in for the roles? What are you most looking forward to about this game? Drop us a comment in the section below.

Greninja is probably one of the fighters
December seems like a month for fighting games, smash direct and DLC no doubt, pokken character announcement, Shadow Jago for Killer Instinct, maybe something for Street fighter, dunno about MKX, either way, a few things to look forward to!
So, the Japanese hint says the new Pokemon's name begins with "So".. I am betting on Sonansu (Wobuffet). Its fairly popular and its countering style could be interesting. I wonder what other popular Japanese Pokemon names beginning with "So" it could be? :3
Edit: Actually, taking a closer look it may be an "n" instead of a "so". They are written very similarly in Katakana. And it may say the name contains it rather than beginning with it. There's only two Pokemon that begin with So in Japanese, so that clue would be too specific.
Wasn't Gengar announced as the winner of the Twitter campaign a while ago? Or was there another one?
Another Pikachu cosplay!
@LexKitteh I just looked up a list of Japanese Pokemon names. The only Pokemon that start with So are the Wobbuffet line, Solrock, and Solosis. So looks like Wobbuffet confirmed?
That's kind of disappointing honestly. And I even like Wobbuffet. Seems like he'd be pretty one-sided.
Ash for Pokken!
(Seriously. Meowth or Jigglypuff, )
@Retro_on_theGo : Wobbuffet makes absolutely no sense as it only retaliates against attacks. It doesn't initiate attacks on its own volition. Considering that this is a fighting game, and assuming that Wobbuffet's only move would be Counter (unless there are projectile attacks in the game as well), Wobbuffet would be guaranteed to wipe the floor with EVERYBODY as it will deal double of whatever it has endured.
Don't get me wrong. I love Wobbuffet, and I wouldn't mind suspending disbelief if it means including him in games like this or better yet, Smash, but considering what we know about Wobbuffet, it would make no sense at all to include it as it is literally incapable of fighting unless struck.
Give us Blissey!
Greninja or Gallade, please!
How about Snorlax or Nidoqueen/Nidoking?
@LexKitteh Its an "n". And it doesn't say it starts with it (no words in Japanese do), but that it has ン in it.
30 bucks it's Greninja.
@TwilightAngel Greninja's Japanese name is Gekkouga. No "n"
Are Hitmonlee or Hitmonchan already in it? I'd think they'd be shoe ins for a game like this.
It could be Jigglypuff as its Japanese name ends in n.
i really want Mawile in this game.
I hope it's Gothitelle (I can dream).
Meloetta, Please?!
Well, My dream, XD
@Undead_terror New fighter DLC for MKX is being revealed at The Game Awards. Big month for fighters indeed!
Neither meloetta or gothitelle have an n in their Japanese name.
This game has been severely lacking in Grimer, so hopefully the update addresses this.

You can tell I want Feraligatr and Greninja.
@WaddleDeeWeegee Its neither of those two.
Oh well, if so...
then...
Diance (and her/it japanese name has ン)
XD
Objetion?!
@SakuraHaruka She fits. Is she popular? It must be possible to make a shortlistlist of Pokemon that are popular, would fit in with the other characters on the roster, and fit the katakana hint.
@IceClimbers Also can't forget about that new indie fighter if anything else gets shown, swell month for fighting games indead!
Galvantula isn't getting in, and I dunno about Mawile...so, yeah...at least Gengar is in.
If it is Jigglypuff, who is the only Smash roster Pokemon who fits the hint, will people he happy or upset?
Jiggs is my main in Smash, so I'd be thrilled!
Klefki! Stunfisk! Chandelure!
Why are you all looking at me like that?
Hawlucha or Slacking as playable fighters please! I will also take really obscure ones that no one would guess or want like Cacturne, Muk, Tarous or Lickylicky lol.
I just need Heracross in it. At the very least, though, I really want at least one Pokémon from every generation. Just like I do in Smash Bros.
Give me Zygarde's Complete Forme, Hawlucha, Garchomp, and/or Zoroark please.
@Tsuchinoko Jigglypuff already cameos as a background character in Pokkén, and while I wouldn't be surprised if a character was both playable and shown off in the background, they haven't done so thus far.
This isn't the Pokémon announcement that was rumored to happen at the beginning of December, is it?
It's Chesnaught, it's clearly Chesnaught, it's japanese name ends in the suggested character, we currently have no Gen 6 fighters, Frogideir and Fennekin are both already supports and lastly it is a Fighting type... The answer is Chesnaught, it was always Chesnaught!
@NintyMan it is possible that Greninja will be in the game at a later time, but this new character isn't him.
Maybe that special Ash Greninja from the anime to throw everyone off?
So happy that Sunflora has made it into the game! It has to be Sunflora, right?
http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/List_of_Japanese_Pokémon_names
This list should help everyone out.
The Pokemon's name starts with an "N" in Japanese.
RIDLEY FOR POKKEN! LOL
I just want Deoxys in the game! His form changes could be interesting!
Pink gold pikachu confirmed
@Tsuchinoko Screw you. I can believe in what I want. I saw the same situation when someone wanted Weavile and then someone commented that it's not going to happen. If we get two fire starters, water should too.
I didn't even know there was a poll for a new fighter, then again it's from a Japan's twitter so I don't feel too bad.
I just hope the new pokemon is a fighting type. Maybe someone in the humanshape egg group like Mienshao, Throh, or anybody in the Hitmon family.
Okay, here are the Pokemon it could potentially be:
Meowth
Nidoking (Nidorino or Nidoran Male, too)
Nidoqueen (Nidorina or Nidoran Female, too)
Poliwrath (Poliwhirl or Poliwag, too)
Politoed
Meowstic (or Espurr)
Exeggutor
Throh
Oddish (...well, that would just be "odd-ish")
Xatu (or Natu)
Shedinja
Quagsire
Sneasel (Weavile is already in though)
Marshtomp
Slakoth (lolno)
Nosepass
Trapinch
Cacturne
Whiscash
Turtwig
Glameow
Sylveon
Goodra (Sligoo or Goomy, too)
Not meaning to raise/crush hopes, but if it's name starts with an "N" in Japanese, it's going to be one of the Pokemon on this list.
How about Gardevoir's counterpart, Gallade?
@ItsRainingGravy its not about starting with "n". Its about containing "n", in this case the katakana ン. What is unique about that specific katakana is that words cannot start with it. So you're looking for a Pokemon that has it in the middle or end of their name.
@Tsuchinoko: I see. Thanks for clarifying.
Since you seem to know a bit, what are some possible suggestions you can think of with that requirement?
@ItsRainingGravy Oh wow, tbh I dont know that much about Pokemon. I saw the katakana hint and got excited. I like language and puzzle stuff. But looking at that link:
1-51
Metapod, Kakuna, Pidgeotto, Sandshrew, Sandslash, Nidoran, Nidoqueen, Nidoking, Vulpix, Ninetails, Jigglypuff, Wigglytuff, Venonat, Venomoth.
Out of 51-101
Persian, Mankey, Arcanine, Poliwrath, Kadabra, Alakazam, Weepinbell, Graveler, Slowpoke, Slowbro, Dewgong, Muk, Cloyster, Electrode.
Of course Gengar too but I believe he's already in the game.
And finishing generation 1 up to #151
Lickitung, Rhyhorn, Rhydon, Goldeen, Staryu, Tauros, Magikarp, Ditto, Jolteon, Porygon, Snorlax, Zapdos.
Fixed the list. Lot more results:
Most Likely:
Snorlax
Sceptile
Bisharp
Chesnaught
Sylveon
Diancie
Less Likely:
Nidoking/Nidoqueen
Poliwrath
Ditto
Jigglypuff/Wigglytuff
Alakazam
Entei
Groudon
Vespiquen
Samurott
Conkeldurr
Cofagrigus
Reuniclus
Mienshao
Landorus
Pangoro
There's a lot more than this, but I am betting that it is one of the first six Pokemon that I posted. Due to popularity, unique moveset potential (that's not similar to a Pokemon currently on the roster), and being recognizable. The others have potential, but are held back by other reasons.
Lapras! haha
@ItsRainingGravy Someone should make a topic in the forums to discuss the hint and narrow down the Pokemon that it could be.
Probably the official reveal of Shadow Mewtwo as playable, as if it were still a secret or something.
Or it could be something far more disappointing.
Hey, Goodra's Japanese name is Numerogon, (which starts with an "n") I bet it's that, they haven't revealed any Gen 6 Pokemon yet.
I'd like to see Zoroark, Goodra, Dewott (or Samurott either is fine by me), or Sceptile. My guess is it's Greninja though.
Or it could be Sylveon, Throh, Luminion, Turtwig, Whiscash, Cacturne, Nosepass, Shedinja, Slakoth, Marshtomp, Sneasel, Quagsire, Politoed, Xatu, Exeggutor, Poliwag, Poliwhirl, Poliwrath, Meowth, Oddish, Nidoran, Nidorano/a, Nidoking, or Nidoqueen (all of their Japanese names start with "n"). So I'd say the main contenders would be Goodra, Sylveon, and Nidoqueen/King.
I'm rooting for oddish though
Edit: @Itsraininggravy Haha oops sorry, I didn't notice your post.
@-Godot again, its not about STARTING with N. The way Japanese works is very different from the English or other Romance language alphabets. The hint is that it contains the katakana ン, which while sounding like N, cannot be at the start of a word.
Japanese Kana work as phonetic representations, while looking like vowel consonant pairs to English speakes. Other N sounds exist, like な (na), or に (ni). The Kana ン is the only sound in Japanese without a vowel attached, which is why a word cannot start with it. So you're looking for a Pokemon that has it in the middle or end of its name, like Jigglypuff, which is Purin (プリン)
@MitchVogel I would have to agree that these guys are shoe in's. By the way glad to see you're still writing! Our bar is gonna need some publicity
@Priceless_Spork Haha, we'll see if it's up to snuff!
@Tsuchinoko Oh... Ok sorry bout that.
I just "control f"ed the wiki page... And that character shows up 196 times in the Pokedex... I guess the hint doesn't narrow it down much.
@LexKitteh Sonansu would be way too cool
