The Japanese Media Create chart results are out and as always make for some interesting reading. Last week saw a number of new releases, though familiar names continue to lead the way.
Still skipping along at number one is Super Mario Odyssey, holding off Call of Duty: WW2. Despite there being a number of new releases they all struggled to bother the top of the charts. Sonic Forces only managed 10th place and 5,938 sales on PS4, with the Switch version a little behind on 4,686 sales. It's worth noting that Sonic often struggles in Japan, with the Wii U version of Sonic Lost World failing to even hit the top 20 at launch, for example.
Also of note, Koei Tecmo released three Warriors ports on Switch last week - Dynasty Warriors 7: Empires, Samurai Warriors: Spirit of Sanada, and Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate - and all failed to chart. Results are below with lifetime sales in brackets.
- [NSW] Super Mario Odyssey (Nintendo, 10/27/17) – 73,315 (652,284)
- [PS4] Call of Duty: WW2 (SIE, 11/03/17) – 67,044 (235,368)
- [NSW] Splatoon 2 (Nintendo, 07/21/17) – 23,130 (1,318,138)
- [PS4] Need for Speed: Payback (EA, 11/10/17) – 20,964 (New)
- [NSW] Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (Nintendo, 04,28,17) – 14,027 (802,472)
- [PS4] Assassin’s Creed Origins (Ubisoft, 10/27/17) – 11,051 (82,742)
- [PS4] ARK: Survival Evolved (Spike Chunsoft, 10/26/17) – 10,253 (103,800)
- [3DS] Style Savvy: Styling Star (Nintendo, 11/03/17) – 9,650 (41,826)
- [PS4] .hack//G.U. Last Recode (Limited Edition Included) (Bandai Namco, 11/02/17) – 6,659 (68,475)
- [PS4] Sonic Forces (Sega, 11/09/17) – 5,938 (New)
- [PS4] Occultic;Nine (5pb., 11/09/17) – 5,846 (New)
- [NSW] The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Limited Edition Included) (Nintendo, 03/03/17) – 5,498 (634,850)
- [PS4] Gran Turismo Sport (Limited Edition Included) (SIE, 10/19/17) – 5,439 (182,440)
- [NSW] Sonic Forces (Sega, 11/09/17) – 4,686 (New)
- [PSV] Occultic;Nine (5pb., 11/09/17) – 4,595 (New)
- [PS4] DJMAX Respect (Limited Edition Included) (Arc System Works, 11/09/17) – 4,376 (New)
- [PS4] Taiko Drum Master: Drum Session (Bundle Edition Included) (Bandai Namco, 10/26/17) – 4,002 (39,925)
- [NSW] Pokken Tournament DX (Nintendo, 09/22/17) – 3,862 (115,691)
- [3DS] Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux (Limited Edition Included) (Atlus, 10/26/17) – 3,533 (74,180)
- [3DS] Animal Crossing: New Leaf Amiibo+ (Nintendo, 11/23/16) – 3,085 (267,322)
Moving on to hardware there's good news for Switch, with sales climbing (likely in response to additional stock) to ensure that Nintendo's system sold more units than all other consoles combined. The New 2DS LL and New 3DS LL (XL) hold their usual positions, while the Xbox One X made a modest debut; it's a brand that struggles in Japan. Results are below with last week's sales in brackets.
- Switch – 79,958 (64,387)
- PlayStation 4 – 20,021 (21,830)
- New 2DS LL – 10,323 (11,116)
- New 3DS LL – 7,296 (7,914)
- PlayStation 4 Pro – 6,037 (6,993)
- PlayStation Vita – 3,210 (3,576)
- 2DS – 1,484 (1,539)
- Xbox One X – 1,344 (New)
- New 3DS – 266 (287)
- Xbox One – 121 (114)
- PlayStation 3 – 41 (56)
- Wii U – 36 (38)
Some interesting chart results, all told, and more positive news for Nintendo in terms of hardware sales and ongoing Mario momentum.

Didn't take Mario long to pass Zelda.
Mario being supreme as usual.
Ouch! - Massive fail for Koei Tecmo on the Swicth in Japan. With the Doom fail in the west. It is a 3rd party blood bath on the Switch.
They just need to stop with the old game parade already.
Thoroughly impressive, well done Nintendo!
I figured CoD's no. 1 rank last week was a blip and Odyssey would soon be back on top.
Hope the NFS players enjoy microtransactions.
@Agramonte did Doom fail in the west? I sure hope it dies not fail.
Sonic Farces...
@Agramonte Doom failed in the West? Source?
Its no surprise that ports of years-old games didn't perform spectacularly. None of those Warriors games are anything close to new
look at microsoft, joining the 4 digit masterrace in japan
I’m close to beating it, and I don’t think Sonic is near as terrible as some seem to think. I’ve had fun.... though there have been about two spots in Modern Sonic levels that are pretty poorly designed, leading to constant death after death.
Doesnt Sonic usually do bad in Japan? Wonder what a none average Sonic game sells like there.
@Mando44646 @Danrenfroe2016 Well, didn't do well in the UK and not even in the top 100 on Amazon in the states 5 days after launch.
Yes, why I said time to stop with the old ports. The lowest on the list is 3,085 units. So all 3 really bombed.
And Super Mario Odyssey retakes the top spot as expected
@Danrenfroe2016 At the moment we have no information or sources as to its sales figures; apart from one number in the forums supposedly pulled out of someone's rear end.
Lets just say it was from some sychophant who would love it to fail.
Wow, XBox One X being outsold by old 2DS, HA HA HA!
Not surprised about Sonic Forces, especially as it came out the same time a Mario, no competition.
This is actually better than Generations launch, which was less than 10k. But it's probably going to drop even faster.
Japan just doesn't care for Sonic. Sega could hack every monitor in Japan to repeat the trailer for an entire day and it wouldn't even pass 100k lifetime.
I imagine switch owners in Japan just got their fill of the Warriors series after Fire Emblem Warriors. Seems kind of foolish to release a vanilla iteration of the same series so soon after the Fire Emblem variant.
@Agramonte What should worry you is that the PS4 gets a ton of 3rd party support and yet the Switch is beating it to a bloody pulp every week despite it being supply constrained
An Xbox One that sells more than a thousand units?! Whoa!
It's nice to see the PS3 still selling after all these years. It's a great system
@Agramonte Source? Besides, Doom is top 5 on the US eshop.
I mean, it really depends what Koei Tecmo was expecting from these rereleases. I doubt they produced much stock, considering they were probably mostly made because porting them was so cheap even meager sales would turn a profit. Which, I'm totally fine with, more games the better, so long as they manage their expectations. I'd still love to see a western release, don't have any of those three games yet and they don't need to even localize them again. I can't imagine they'd lose money with a digital only release at the least.
@LegendOfPokemon Hey, all 1500 XBONE owners wanted to upgrade to X.
As a Sonic fan, I’m glad Sega isn’t quite like Nintendo when it comes to low sales in Japan. If a series did that bad in Japan for Nintendo, you’d almost never hear from it again.
@GC-161 fist Playstation is doing just fine 4 years in.
https://www.cnbc.com/2017/10/31/sony-earnings-q2-2017.html
2nd, That argument is irrelevant to me - I have both. Same crap as when people tried to piss on the WiiU because the PS4 was crushing it. I don't do console wars nonsense.
Who needs sources for numbers when you want third-parties to fail on Switch? Just make some up.
@FX102A yes. I do hope it sells however... We don't need another Wii U drop off with 3rd party support.
@Agramonte yes I think it's like 105 or something on Amazon. I hope it does well in the long run however...
@Agramonte whilst Doom doesn't appear to have done great numbers I've seen reports that the game wasn't even on Amazon.com for a couple of days apart from importing, whilst in the UK it was out of stock on Amazon from Saturday until today so they may have been very conservative with how many copies they would sell.
Hopefully sales of 3rd party games will pick up and many may be waiting for Black Friday sales, because if they don't we may not get any big names in the future and nobody can have any complaints.
As for those Sonic sales in Japan, that perfectly illustrates the gap that now exists between the once great rivals
@Agramonte First, Nintendo is also doing great financially. Not sure what that has to do with the Switch giving the PS4 a painful bloody nose each week despite Ninty's consoles being supply constrained.
Second, that argument is relevant to you because you brought up 3rd party support. Well that support isn't helping the PS4 in Japan that much.
so the warriors games are doing poorly on the switch... huh, well that's interesting. seems the people who wanted to play them already have. I would say that this means that warriors fans aren't buying into the switch as much as i thought, but apparently, FE warriors is doing well enough. Guess most warriors fans who own a switch, also own other consoles.
So this is why people don't mind the fact that the switch doesn't have many good games. they haven't put their eggs all in one basket.
It's sad to say, but thats about the only way you can even be happy with nintendo consoles these days. There once was a time when nintendo was so good, you could ignore the competition. But nowadays? it's sad, it really is.
Mario Odyssey has outsold the Switch version of Zelda BOTW in 3 weeks.
I'm gonna call it... the Switch is going to do fine in Japan.
In all seriousness, these are very good numbers. I'm mainly impressed by the long tail of Nintendo IPs (Splatoon 2 and Mario Kart 8 in the top 5 half a year in). Also, Zelda and Pokken still in the top 20. I suppose those 80k new Switch owners need something to play alongside Mario.
@Spoony_Tech wow. That was fast!
@Agramonte I don't believe Doom failed. It's been holding up a decent spot on the eShip considering it's age and it's price point. I got the game and I'm loving it along with the multiplayer.
@Agramonte you mean doom fail in the 🇬🇧 We don’t have numbers for the rest of the West yet
Great news for Nintendo
Gasp A Sonic game doesn't do well? OMG that's impossible! - NOT
Amazing how Odyssey crossed Zelda so fast. Being a Zelda fan, I really hope Odyssey doesn't cross Zelda worldwide although a part of me inside wants that to happen.
@CheddarSword No, it was up the entire time. I had it on my cart. It also had the %20 off for prime members. Even when in Stock on Amazon UK it was at #50 by sunday. I know because I had this same conversation and used the list as reference.
Oh, I'm in that club. I always have a SONY/Nintendo combo. And I think you hit the main point. It just being on the Switch is not a done deal. People still have other options/Price points
Namco Bandai has had great success with their Switch games. I think they been smart with the titles they bring and the pricepoint. I have both their Switch games. They a good port and reasonably priced.
Last 2 years been rough - sad would be if they can't make a living. I'm ok they being a good #2. You just miss out on to many good gaming experiences only having a Nintendo system these days. That is just how it is - again, as long as they making money it is still ok
PS3... the last truely great system and generation... now it’s loot boxes and gambling. Boycotting EA, and I won’t be getting NBA2k18 on the Switch either, I refuse to pay for a game and then have to pay more. DLC was at least worth it, and if you didn’t think it was you didn’t buy it.
Doom fail? I play it everyday... it’s the best multiplayer FPS on the Switch. It’s better than Splatoon in my book, as far as shooters go.
Call of Duty actually hold better than Mario, it could outsell the plumber next week. And yeah Odyssey, Kart, Splatoon and Zelda will keep storming the top 10 at least till the holidays but there's still 1 1/2 month left without any best-seller for the Switch. (Xenoblade last gen sold like 150k in Japan) Whats next?
@CheddarSword You might just be looking for attention, but I'll engage anyway. Koei Tecmo has ported three old Warriors titles to a Switch that just a few weeks ago got a brand-new Warriors title with the Fire Emblem effort - which sold OK, but didn't exactly set the Japanese charts on fire (unlike Zelda, Odyssey, Mario Kart and, most of all, Splatoon 2).
As for point about people only being able to be satisfied if they have multiple consoles, I don't think that's any more true today or applies more to the Switch than it ever did. It was just the same with Sega and Nintendo in the Eighties and Nineties as it is with Sony and Nintendo today. Sure, you can't play all the great first- and third-party games that the PlayStation is getting on a Switch, but similarly Sony-only gamers would look with envy at the GOTY nominations for the likes of Zelda, Odyssey, Splatoon 2, ARMS etc. You can't have it all on one system, and you never could. But there's arguably enough on each system to do without the other (unless you have enormous amounts of free time, masses of money and no other interests/commitments in your life).
@dimi What's next? Skyrim and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 will both do decent to good business in Japan, but especially the latter. Not Odyssey or Splatoon 2 figures, but they'll certainly be in the charts. And CoD has already dropped below Odyssey's sales despite being newer - not sure what happened to your maths there.
@CheddarSword Oh do stop talking nonsense.
@Danrenfroe2016 Hopefully it makes back the money of porting the Engine Over. I think If they do a Doom2 or any other new release now it will sell great. The Tech6 engine is there - and working great on Switch.
@Agramonte
It was pretty odd to release all theee on the same day especially for such a relatively low selling series that had a new release on the system roughly a month ago.
If Sega would give Sonic games the love and attention they'd deserve like how Nintendo gives Mario games the love and attention they deserve, they would probably sell better. I certainly would already have gotten Sonic Forces if that were the case, but now I'll just wait for a price drop, because I feel like it simply doesn't deserve my attention for its current price.
@samuelvictor Well, the Sonic games were created with the west in mind, since Sega wanted to grab the larger gaming markets in North America and Europe. His western "Rude dude with Attitude" schtick never really caught on with Japanese players, in fact the only Sega system that sold well in Japan was the Sega Saturn and that didn't even have a proper Sonic title.
@Agramonte agreed
To be this good will take Sega ages.
@GC-161 Nop. Just like the PS4 outselling the WiiU did not mean Nintendo games were irrelevant. Or that 3rd party were more important - that is all self serving nonsense.
Nothing to do with my original post that it was a 3rd party blood bath on the Switch. And I am sure Koei Tecmo cares.
@Pikachupwnage Oh, well that is a good point I did not think of - could have cannibalized each other. Regardless, I think Atelier will do well for them.
That was exactly the type of games I kept my VITA for. It is also a new game and just far enough from Xenoblade2 (even better date in the States of March 31st). Factor in the millions extra Switch Christmas sales.
@samuelvictor The early games from what I've read did do decently, but like the Genesis/Megadrive, they never really caught on in Japan. Especially when the JRPG juggernaut that was the Super Famicom was overshadowing it.
@Agramonte The Wii U had a presence in Japan exclusively because of 1st party titles. While the PS4 struggled out of the gate until it had decent 3rd party support.
But even with strong 3rd party support, the PS4 is presently being savagely trampled into a bloody purulent and unrecognizable pulp by the Switch. Despite being in its first year and despite supply constraints.
Honestly I don't know how you can sleep at night knowing you own a console like the PS4 that keeps getting a bloody nose every single week by an underpowered hybrid console with zero 3rd party presence.
But such is life.
@Krull Gamers who do have a lot of time on their hands (especially youtubers) certainly have more to look forward to on other consoles than what nintendo makes these days. Especially when it comes to third party games, since the switch versions are either as good or worse.
And back in the Sega Vs. Nintendo days, Nintendo was consistently better. even if you prefered sonic to mario, Nintendo's consoles always had a larger variety of games to play that were liked far more. Final Fantasy made a name for itself on Nintendo consoles, as did other games. The genesis ports were the least popular, more often than not. That's not to say that the genesis didn't have good games, phantasy star is still a thing. But as a gamer, you didn't need both consoles to have plenty of good games to play. you could choose one or the other and be happy.
But today? let's be honest. they ONLY thing that really makes the switch a good home console is exclusives, and there aren't too many of those. I would be downright bored and wanting for more if all I owned was the switch. Heck, the only reason I even want a gaming PC is due to the fact that I can mod games on it. other than that, my PS4 would be more than enough for me.
I will say this in the switch's favor though. I'm more interested in getting a switch, than I am an Xbox one. There's almost NOTHING on the Xbox that i want. So no, the switch isn't to bad of a console. but it's proof that Nintendo is a shell of what it used to be.
Also, not exactly sure what you mean by your statement about me wanting attention. if i did, i'd become a youtuber. There's plenty of people who agree with my views. I'm sure i'd become succesful enough. So no, this isn't attention seeking. It's simply me sharing my opinion with people who apparently don't want to hear it.
You know, i wonder what i'd have to do to get banned from this site? I seriously regret making an account here, and as long as I have one, i'm probably going to use it to share my opinion.
Wow! Forces sold basically the same on Switch than on PS4. We pass Sega's test.
@GC-161 As well as the other 67 million who own one.
Well, will not be sleeping much when NinoKuni2 and MH world come out. Just like when Xenoblade 2 comes out... or back in the day when Tokyo Mirage came out on the WiiU.
What happens when you don't put all your eggs in one basket... it is just about the games you want to play most. The rest is just nonsense.
@Agramonte what are u talking about?
Not every game needs to chart to be succesful. Switch fanbase isn't big as well. So yeah lets wait for actual comments from developers.
@Agramonte The only takeaway here is that you own a console (PS4) that has strong 3rd party support and yet its getting savagely beaten to a ghastly crimson pool of blood every single week by an underpowered HANDHELD with absolutely zero 3rd party support.
And on top of that, most of those 67 million PS4 owners use it as a Netflix machine. Which is why there isn't a single PS4 game that has sold 67 million copies. Hell, there isn't even a single PS4 game that has sold half that amount. No wait, there isn't even ONE PS4 game that has sold to a sizeable fraction of that user base.
So yeah, thassa Netflix machine.
^_____^
@FX102A Yeah genuinely disappointed to see it selling well. Awful game with awful business model.
@Agramonte DOOM failed in the West?
Oh, SEGA....
Btw, i still see NOTHING great from xbox one x. Just NOTHING !
1. Power ? Who CARES ?! I don't care at all with powers. I'm NOT hungry for OMG Ultra HD graphics. I feel Irritated instead.
2. Xbox one DOESN'T have some PS4 Exclusives such as World of Final Fantasy, FF XII The Zodiac Age, FF X/X-2 HD Remaster, Kingdom Hearts 1.5 + 2.5 HD Remix, Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles, etc. By owning xbox one, i CAN'T play those games. Wasting my money, i felt regret to buy if i choose xbox one.
3. PS4 Blue box is more Attractive than Xbox one Green box in my opinion.
4. Xbox one just ONLY has Partial Backward Compatible which there is NO Xbox or Xbox 360 games that i want to play on Xbox one due to Incomplete list. (Dang it ! I can't play DDR Ultramix 1-4, The Sims Bustin' Out, The Sims 3, DDR Universe 1-3, Dance Master, etc on xbox one due to INCOMPATIBLE with xbox one)
5. Xbox one x is the WORST in Watt usage. More than 240 Watt usage, are you kidding ?! I would rather choose PS4 or Switch with Less Watt Usage.
6. Xbox one x is the HEAVIEST of All. Ouch !! I would rather choose Switch for the Lightest.
7. 4K resolution ? Garbage to me !
8. No Kinect Port ?! No deals !
9. Xbox one x is NOT Portable. I choose Switch instead.
10. Xbox one x is the MOST Expensive of All. I choose Switch instead for Cheaper price, its portability, Great library games and my Huge Loyalty toward Nintendo. I see Nothing from Microsoft, i see a Party Crasher from Microsoft.
@GC-161 Nop - the only take away is that it didn't matter that the WiiU was being beaten by bloody pulp - I was enjoying my games. Just like now.
Nop - that just means people have options. No such thing as 1 big release. The community has tons of options. Same thing happens on the 3DS. That does not even have Netflix. LOL!.
Like I said - When you have both - it is all about the games. The rest is nonsense.
@Aaron09
Wrong. Doom and Third parties are doing well. Take two was pleased with NBA2k18 sales. Ubisoft, koetecmo, bandainamco, and others are also pleased with their sales. We don't know about doom yet but in the north American eshop doom was #3 on it's opening week. That is very positive but we will need to wait until January for the quarter results.
Splatoon 2 is still in the Top 5. Is there any stopping that game in Japan?!
@Agramonte Nop. Why you keep mentioning the Wii U, tho? Are you a fan of dead consoles or something? Do you own a Vita? Probably.
Anywhoo, the only issue that should matter to you is that the Switch, a hybrid underpowered console with no 3rd party support beats the bloody crap out of a 67 million selling glorified Netflix machine with strong 3rd party support such as the PS4.
The rest is nonsense. Especially dragging the Wii U out of its grave.
@Agramonte
Failed? Source? don't tell me Amazon right? they got doom sold 10 out on november 10 and the they had to change the date to 14 for more stock (I keep checking daily because I was waiting for L.A. Noire pre order that never come in the end). And also Doom is Number 2 on Eshop best seller right now and Doom is on Japan 2018.
@GC-161
Nintendo Switch HAS some 3rd party supports.
Konami, KOEI TECMO, EA, Bandai Namco, Keen games, SEGA, Atlus, etc.
Who said Nintendo Switch is Lack of 3rd party games ?
Imported some of the Warriors games, so yeah sad to see they are selling bad. But when all those people start trading NFS back in they might see them as an alternate choice.
Doesnt help all three of the warriors games are very old releases in Japan with no additions for Switch.
@Anti-Matter Some guy who keeps mentioning the Wii U for odd reasons.
Props to those 36 people who bought a wii u
@CheddarSword Ah, plenty of people come here, a Nintendo site, just to flame Nintendo, which is why I was loath to start a conversation. So yeah, I might have been a bit salty - so thanks for replying, and I appreciate your response. I'd argue the Switch hasn't done too badly for exclusives given it's still in its first year, and I'd take quality over quantity any day of the year. But, I can't deny, the PS4 offers both. However, for the time-poor who can't sit in front of a TV all day, the Switch is more than enough. For me, it's better, in that it fits my life better. And I'd rather play Splatoon 2 than Destiny, Zelda than Horizon, Mario Odyssey than, er, yet another Assassins Creed. I do feel I've missed out on Nier and Persona 5, though.
Edit: Nintendo hasn't been this healthy in years, by the way. Share price alone, let alone the Metacritic scores, prove that.
Nintendo is mopping the floor with its competitors in Japan...whoa!
@GC-161 Nop, keep bring it up because your nonsensical logic should also apply to everything else. I mean the Switch is also beating the pulp out of the 3DS. New popular consoles outsell old popular consoles. Old not so popular consoles still have great games on it.
I'll enjoy Xenoblade2, Ninokuni2, The alliance alive. What box outsells what box at that given time is irrelevant - all about the games on that month.
@CheddarSword Personally my Switch has been the only system I've played since March 3. With a short exception of catching up on Kirby Robobot on 3DS. And I have a backlog building up already on Switch. That doesn't include my PS4 backlog. I suppose if I had endless free time I woudln't have a backlog on either, but with the limited time for gaming mixed with real life I can't even catch up on all the games for Switch I want to play let alone everything on PS4 as well (on which I have less I want to play than I do on Switch, but most of them are time consuming epics.)
@Agramonte Nop. The 3DS reached the end of its expected lifecycle. It came out way back in 2012. While the PS4 is barely half way to its final destination as a glorified Netflix machine. So that was a nonsensical comparison. I dunno why you went there and honestly, you owe me an apology.
And Ninokuni2 is also coming out on PC. Master race FTW.
@CheddarSword "You know, i wonder what i'd have to do to get banned from this site? I seriously regret making an account here"
Why is that?
@Agramonte
Some of what you say I agree with, but you need to back up the train a bit with the "DOOM failed" talk.
Without hard numbers, without expectations, without digital sales, without understanding factors affecting sales (Like not showing up on Amazon US in a search, or showing under Switch games listing) we can't determine anything yet. Plus with such a packed release schedule alot of people may have to hold off on some games til Christmas.
Not to mention, not everything is black and white. It may have done "decent", not great and not horrible. There's a huge grey area in between.
We need to wait until the new year and then take a look at how it's done globally. But also keep in mind, it is a game that's already been released so sales aren't going to be the same as a brand new game. Expectations set for double dippers for handheld and Nintendo only gamers.
@GC-161 LOL... you so delusional you even toss Nintendo under the bus. Nop, Keep my PC for online play games - free there. Again - not the box that counts.
@Agramonte I'm so dang delusional that I'm the one claiming Doom failed on the Switch without any numbers to back that up.
Oh wait, no... That's you. LOL
And I see you avoiding paying Sony to play online on that glorified Netflix machine that most of its 67 million users barely use to play games on it. I mean not even the game of the generation, KNACK, sold 3 million on it. And it was bundled with the console. How embarrassing.
What is not embarrassing is admitting PC gaming is where its at.
Poor Sonic Forces and Sega, even with the combined numbers of Switch and PS4 copies sold, it still can't top Super Mario Odyssey.
These Switch numbers must be a lie, sales for the platform were supposed to fall off a cliff!!11
Seriously though, great to to see Odyssey and the Switch on top again.
@GC-161 LOL... master race?... and there you go again with your box fascination
PC is where it is at when I played DOOM a year ago at 2560X1600 with K/M support and free deathmatch. PS4 is where it is at when I'll be playing Ninokuni2/MH-World in the comfort of my living room or Remote Play in bed. Switch is where it is at when playing Zelda/Xenoblade2 on my flight from NYC to SanFran. PC is where it is at again when I got Wolfenstein 2 and The Evil Within 2 for $63 dollars total at CDKeys.com.
But, but... Box A outsold Box B. Again, you sound like the Playstation fanboys back in the WiiU era.
Everyone making the same excuses for Doom they did for Fifa18... lol!.
@magicx wasn’t saying it did. Thought you said it did so i asked. Sorry lol
@Mando44646 Doom hasn't failed in the West. Some little @hole on Twitter, YouTube, Reddit, etc... starts a rumour, and it's become fact, when the game had literally only been out for 48 hours at the time. While at the same time, it's doing well as far as digital charts are concerned.
While we have no hard numbers yet, to say it's outright failed I after 2 days s completely false.
@cheddarsword, are you serious? The switch has exclusives, and the best first party on the planet, and it's not even a year old. There will be more third party exclusives coming soon. You will see, also more Indies are making more games exclusive or time exclusive to the switch.
@JaxonH I agree with all of that up to a point. And I mentioned ages ago that the $60 dollar price tag would also hold it down for the double dip people.
Sure all the numbers are not out - but some are. Mario and CODWW2 are selling well and they top of Amazon also. MR Kingdom Battle also sold well on Switch and it also showed well on that list - so it does have a track record. But lets be realistic. This was hyped on Nintendo Reels for ages - and when something is a hit every store makes sure you know they have it - even more in the holiday season. There is no "searching" they have it front and center.
This will be more like MassEffect. For what it was hyped to be it is a failure. And so what? They got Tech6 working. I for one do not think Doom sales say anything about the Switch. It is an old port - where some of the aspects that made it great on other platforms were toned down when ported.
I think Wolfenstein2 always had a better chance. It is newer, people knew a Switch version was coming before the release on other consoles and they have all the experience of Doom.
@Agramonte
I still think DOOM can hit a million copies (long term, obviously). If Bomberman R and DB Xenoverse 2 can do half a million, I think DOOM has a legitimate shot. Bayonetta 2 didn't make any top selling lists nor was it front and center anywhere, but it sold a million, and on Wii U of all systems.
We'll see how it pans out. Either way, regardless of how it fares in the market, it's an amazing game and I'm so glad to have it.
I think more people should be talking about how good this game is rather than how it's selling. Because in my opinion it's right up there with Mario and Zelda as one of the absolute best games on the Nintendo Switch.
@JaxonH That would be great for Bethesda. Oh and if it gets a price cut it will shoot up. Fifa18 Switch is on sale on Black Friday - I for one think it will sell out. Doom at 39.99 will sell of the shelves. I will probably pick it up if it ever hits that price...lol!
100% true on Bayonetta 2, I'll give you that.
@Agramonte
DOOM isn't a perfect port, and I think that has kind of affected interest. It's certainly not without its faults, but if you're playing on the easier difficulty (which I am, not only because FPS games are harder to play on a handheld, but even on Xbox One I think it's plenty hard enough as is) it plays pretty smoothly. I myself haven't had any issues with the frame rate dipping. I have had the sound cut out and get quiet once (a known bug they're supposedly working on to patch out), and the resolution is a little bit lower than I would've preferred (think it averages 610p like Rocket League) but it's still miles beyond even the best FPS on Vita, which were like 390p or something (which still admittedly looked good in their own right). I played Borderlands 2 on Vita with 15fps, some of the worst pop-in I've seen in a video game and missing buttons so actions were mapped to zones on the rear touchpad and touchscreen. In comparison this is like handheld FPS Game of All Time.
So yeah... it's not perfect, it's not without faults, but I still think it's an incredible game and an absolute shame that people might miss out on it because of that. I do hope as many people as possible get to play this incredible game. Nintendo fans can now play multiplayer DOOM online with friends. Just set up a private match with friends and have a blast all weekend. That's the kind of thing this system really needed and I'm so glad to see it.
@JaxonH Yeah, sometimes people make a bigger deal of that. Xenoverse2 also had slowdowns - I never found it to be an issue. Oh god - Borderland 2 vita was a pop-in king (right up there with Black Desert Online)
I really like Bethesda, but I had already done Doom on PC and $60 was just a bit much to double dip (same problem I have with Skyrim)
Tech6 looks awesome on switch - so have big hopes for the next round of new games from them.
Doom needs to sell at least half a million copies, we also need Skyrim to sell just as much.
We need to support AAA third parties releases!
@Masurao Yep - crazy selection at crazy prices. I do not think it is because of the Switch - some Publishers are being crazy.
Atelier Lydie & Suelle is the real Tecmo Switch game. I hope it does well, having all the 3rd party VITA games move over to the Switch would be amazing.
I was starting to get concerned that the overload of weekly indie games hitting the Switch would result in disappointing sales for some devs and thus they would run for the hills! But if the Switch maintains this current sales momentum then there should be plenty of room for plenty of devs and games!! Great time to be a Nintendo console owner!!
Doom and Skyrim are both doing great on the Eshop, the one that worries me is LA Noire, I love that game and its not even on the best sellers chart.
@agramonte
Sounds more like you’re trying to make it seem like Doom failed. Comparing it to Mario and CoD sales numbers 😂
Anyone else think it's utterly incredible that Animal Crossing New Leaf is STILL selling well enough to make top 20 lists? A game that originally released in 2012!
That should be proof enough for them to make a Switch game.
@astros75 That will be DOOM 2 on Switch 😀
@magicx also of note(dooms position on eShop) if you look at the bottom of that page for best sellers it says " games with most sells over the last two weeks." Taking that in account doom in 3rd on day one means good things. The number 1 and 2 position have been out for longer and hince have 2 weeks of sales for that chart vs dooms 1 day.
@Krull my bad, i mistook total sales number for last week sales.
@JaxonH
Doom on switch has a great single player campaign but the multiplayer online is very average, played it on ps4. For me killzone mercenary on vita is still the best FPS on a handheld for gameplay. Doom and KZ both have good campaign modes, but Doom wins that, eventually it all comes down to multiplayer and doom falls flat compared to KZ mercenaries. Yeah doom has better graphics but that's irrelevant, it's all down to gameplay. Resolution and all that is just banana skin, frames per second is more important than resolution, especially when it drops to 20 or less like Doom or borderlands 2, got to say i did manage to finish borderlands on vita, not too much hassle with the touchpad at the back, only sometimes i double tapped it and started running when I didn't want to lol, don't know if I played a patched version way after its original release but slowdown was very minimum, it was a fun game with a garbage multiplayer. So yeah KZ still #1 for FPS in handheld, Doom 2nd and the rest are nowhere near these 2 great games, i do hope wolfenstein has a great multiplayer and topples both these games
@WhistleFish
I liked Killzome, very sound game, but I didn't find it all that exciting. It was better than Shadowfall though.
I really like deathmatch in DOOM. There's only one map that has noticeable issues. But I'm hoping they bring some good post launch support.
Ya Borderlands 2 I had to quit playing. And this coming from someone who played Resistance Burning Skies and completed Call of Duty Black Ops Declassified. The thing that killed it was the rear touchpad zones. Having to extend your fingers so as to not accidentally brush against was a nightmare. I was always accidentally crouching or zooming or whatever. Then, the analogs were too close to the touchscreen and way too small, so my thumbs where always barely making contact which triggered a grenade throw (this was a problem in Killzone as well).
I think had either of those games been on Switch I would have enjoyed them more, but Vita just wasn't conducive to FPS. Kind of like how Move Controllers lack analogs and aren't really conducive to games like Skyrim VR (which is still amazing btw, just hold the middle Move button to run in direction you point left wand, that dragon scared the crap out of me in virtual reality)
Yeah I bet both doom and Skyrim are great in VR mode. I just got back from town with my brand new switch and a copy of DOOM, hoping to kick some butt in multiplayer. For now the only other games i will be interested in is Skyrim, it was doom that persuaded me to buy a switch. Can't believe you finished resistance and COD on vita, both terrible games and very sloppy controls, well done with sticking with them, i sold them without finishing them, i have small hands for a bloke, so I didn't have problems with rear touchpad on any games really. Anyways i have just started charging the switch, how long does it take and do i have to do a system update
