Last year in August, Capcom pulled the 2013 DuckTales: Remastered from all digital storefronts, including the Wii U eShop. It was believed to be tied to the game's license, as it's all about the Disney-owned character, Scrooge McDuck.
Now, roughly eight months later, the Capcom-Unity blog has announced the remaster has returned to digital storefronts. Here's the full list of platforms it can be downloaded on:
PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Xbox One (via Backwards Compatibility), Wii U and Steam
If you haven't already added this one to your library, now is the time to go and check it out. It's also a great way to join in on WayForward's 30th-anniversary celebrations.
Now, if we could just get a release on the Nintendo Switch as well.

I hope this means a new licensing agreement between Disney and Capcom/WayForward has been reached. Maybe we'll get a Switch port soon? DuckTales is still a big deal, y'know, especially with the new show.
And maybe, just maybe, we'll FINALLY get the Disney Afternoon Collection if it /is/ more of a Capcom thing?
...Please?
Kinda got it physically on Wii U. =X
A port to the Switch would be nice tho, WayForward. Give us that.
Nice to see this being back! Really nice, recommended game.
Was worried it might never return (like the Scott Pilgrim game).
Time to add it to the Switch library. It was a good one.
I highly recommend this game. It's an excellent remaster that doesn't require one to have seen the show to enjoy it. I loved it on the Wii U and would love the Switch's audience to get a chance to play this gem.
I hope it comes to GOG as well.
I'll grab a physical release if it ever comes to Switch.
@MasterGraveheart that’s exactly what I was going to say-I fully second that!
This is great news, now I just want Turtles in Time.
@Gridatttack Sucks that after over 5 years since the game’s delisting, the game still isn’t back.
If you haven't got this yet what are you waiting for? I loved it and I'm one of the few who never had nostalgia for the original. I think i rented it once but Mario 3 was just too distracting! I wish they would have remastered the 2nd game.
Oh and if any of you feel like revisiting the show and happen to have Disney plus the original Ducktales is on there. Think I'll watch me a few episodes for old time sake!
Ducktales Whoo Hoo!
"Now, if we could just get a release on the Nintendo Switch as well."
This.
Grabbed it for like 3 bucks last year before it got pulled. I still need to play it.
@Godlike_Virus - I did the same for the exact reason it got pulled.
If they thought it was worth re-licencing, they DEFINITELY need to port to newer platforms.
It’s a fun game. Be nice if Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers could get the same treatment,
I had it on Wii U and bought it on Steam just before it was removed. A Switch port would be nice though, maybe after Shantae is finished?
I played the remake on PS3 and was ultimately underwhelmed... the cut scenes were boring, voice-acting was poor, and the modern art was not for me.
I love the NES original and still own the cartridge... I would love to be able to play the original game on Switch.
Maybe this license renewal will allow the Disney Afternoon Collection on Switch? That would be ideal...
Don't know how anyone could be underwhelmed. The music is better though if you prefer the original 8-bit tracks they are unlockable, The graphics are better, they got the original voice actor who played scrooge on the show, (his last performance i might add) and there's extra stages not found in the original! Oh did i mention unlimited continues?
The original had sloppy hit detection and no continues. Rather archaic by todays standards. Probably why i never could beat the darn thing. Wayforward couldn't have made a better remake!
Yeeeeeessss I lost this game when I switched phones and I LOVED it. Never got around to finishing it, too, so this is wonderful news.
I would buy this again on the Switch.. Also, I want the NES Remix and NES Remix II on the Switch as well.
Yes put this on the Switch and I will gladly double dip again.
Switch port please.
For some reason, I snagged almost every port when it went on sale. I probably would have bought the Wii U version as well... if I had a Wii U.
@illmatic20xx Seconded- I would love for a switch version as well.
@Gridatttack Scott Pilgrim the Game being lost to time and last gen consoles... it makes me cry just thinking about it.
@Lawnachaun : I would love a physical edition of NES Remix Collection on Switch. I never completed the Wii U games, but I saw Ultimate NES Remix on 3DS to 100% completion. It feels like so long ago now.
@MasterGraveheart it is a shame that the the Switch still doesn’t have the Disney Afternoon Collection. A collection of six NES games on every platform except Nintendo. What?
https://youtu.be/3TUNSzbEypA (Shocko)
@Tandy255 That is odd huh and Capcom and Disney doesn't even had to do that much work either, they could had just let Nintendo throw all 6 roms onto the NES Switch Online Service and be done with it. I would had still play 3 of them.
I bought it physical when it came out. I still prefer the original. there is just to much dialogue that was not in the first game. I'm constantly skipping the cut scene's. still a very fun game tho.
That's good an all but it doesn't help Switch and PS4 owners that wish that they could play it on their consoles.
What if it means new ports or more Disney-Capcom games? A man can dream.
I have it on Wii U. I did enjoy it but no so much so that I'd feel the need to buy it again if it did get a Switch release.
Especially as my Wii U is still hooked up to the TV so already have easy access if needed.
I have a Steam version and it's a great game, but as others I've said I'd love a Switch version, and for it to get a physical release!
Can we get a push for this? Reach out to Wayforward, Capcom, Disney?
@holygeez03
It has the original voice cast! It was exactly like an episode of the show!
Such a waste to put them back on them.tbey should added them to ps4.xbox one and the switch
I have this on Wii U, Xbox 360 (and therefore backwards compatible on Xbox One). Great game for 80s children and really nice to have alongside the Saturday Afternoon Collection. My kids love seeing the two games side by side to see the changes.
I don’t know why anyone complains about the voice acting; it is literally the same cast as the original cartoon and from what I could tell they sound like they are putting in just as much effort. Also nice as the chap that voiced Scrooge passed away since, so this game is a great swan song.
Be warned, it is a bit glitchy on Wii U. I recommend the Xbox version myself.
Disney should get WayForward to do a DuckTales 3.
That counts as a new release on the Wii U. It wasn't out last month and it is now. Wii U lives 2020!!
@BulkSlash
What about DuckTales 2 remastered?
It'd be more likely that they'd do a game based on the 2017 show anyway, WayForward have done plenty of licensed games before, including Batman the Brave and the Bold for the Wii.
Doesn't seem to be released yet.
It would definitely be nice to have DuckTales 2 remastered but I can play that any time on my AV Famicom, a fully new adventure would by my preference as it would allow WayForward to branch out a bit and add new ideas rather than having to adhere to the template of the original.
That said, you're right it could very well end up being based on the 2017 show (is that the one with the square heads?) rather than the old cartoon. Plus of course Alan Young is no longer with us, so he couldn't do the voice work.
I was wise enough to get it the first time around, but this is great for those who didn't as it's another quality title from WayForward.
those cutscenes dragged on and on. good game though
@GameOtaku
Same voice actors... yes.
Same quality of writing and delivery... no.
@holygeez03
It's sounds the same to me as any episode of the show. Considering the original has very little dialogue this is amazing. You could probably say something of the writing quality of the show but after 30 years it probably doesn't hold up to today's standards (at least for some people anyway).
@GameOtaku Sounding the same is not the issue...
I still watch episodes of the original show from time to time... it holds up just fine (ok, not all 100 episodes).
If you think the cutscenes in the game remake are on par with the show... well, we disagree... and I would imagine I am far from alone with that opinion.
this is cool they have added the game back to the digital storefronts but they really should have just updated the game to current gen platforms instead.
I have duck tails remastered on my phone, game can be tough as nails to play though.
@MasterGraveheart I still have my fingers crossed for that Afternoon Collection on Switch.
I got this when it was $1 on steam, and it was...ok. Was glad it was so short, cause probably would have gotten bored of it if it had been much longer
What needs to be done is make sure the game will never leave stores again.
The problem with games leaving digital stores is not that physical media is better, it's because companies are still stuck in the past where games based on a license were no different than the toys, clothes and coffee mugs, and cannot be sold anymore once the license expires, this is still a problem with classic games from the 1980s and 1990s that cannot be sold again since the companies that own those games need a license.
Back then, at least used carts and discs were available, but now, with digital stores and streaming services, videogame companies need to treat their products seriously, movies don't have this problem, Sony Pictures lost the rights to Ghost Rider back to Marvel, but the Nicolas Cage movies can still be sold.
I have this on my Wii U but I don't even have that system connected anymore. Would be nice if they brought it out on Switch, I'd definitely re-purchase it.
Really really enjoyed DuckTales remastered on Wii U, was lot more fun than I was expecting. Highly recommended but hope it comes to Switch.
If I remember right, there was an update that allowed you to turn off the cutscenes. The voice acting was great, but I think the problem was the way the cutscenes were integrated into the gameplay. The editing and empty space between dialogue needed to be tightened up.
I enjoyed the game though. Wish they had the chance to remake DuckTales 2, which was just as good.
Not on the switch yet, lol
Still wishing for a Switch port.
I would buy this on switch day 1
