Powkiddy, a company known for producing retro gaming consoles, has introduced its latest effort: the Powkiddy X51. It looks pretty familiar, right?
Yes, in designing the X51, Powkiddy has unashamedly tried to emulate (chortle!) the look and feel of a Nintendo Switch, right down to the neon red and blue casing. As expected, however, the console doesn't offer any of the Switch's functionality; yes, you can play the system on a TV ("big screen, more happy") or via a 'table top mode', but additional controllers are mandatory if you wish to do so.
What it does offer, however, is emulation for Game Boy, Game Boy Advance, Neo Geo, and PlayStation games, among others. The console comes with two USB Type-A ports, a USB Type-C connection, an HDMI port and a 3.5 mm headphone jack. Micro SD card support is also present and accounted for, but again, you could argue that this is a mandatory requirement, since the system itself comes with just 128 MB of internal storage.
If you want to get yourself one (look, you do you), you can order the X51 from AliExpress for $52.99 / £44.33. At the very least, if you're after a relatively cheap emulation console, this might just do the job for you. As a neat little bonus, if someone not "in-the-know" asks to play on your Switch, chuck one of these at them so you can keep your real Switch nice and pristine!
What do you make of the Powkiddy X51? Are you likely to pick one up? Let us know!

Chortle! Chortle! Chortle! Scoff...no.
Looks like a bootleg. Pass.
Q : What do you make of the Powkiddy X51? Are you likely to pick one up?
Me : You gotta be kidding me.
Btw, nice boxer pose. From what game is that?
Not a chance. Looks cheap and nasty
I would get one of these so I can have a portable emulation device while keeping my Nintendo Switch (if I had one) with the stock firmware.
But it looks like I would have a better time getting the Steam Deck so I have something more premium but something that still allows unofficial emulation.
With those prices, I would get a Genesis Mini or a Super NES Classic instead.
When the controllers suspiciously look like the DualShock 3s, you instantly know it's a knockoff.
This is the kind of console that gets bought by your mum for your birthday because "It was so much cheaper on that other website. But it looks exactly the same so must be the same but cheaper right?"
Ah the tenth or so release from powkiddy this year so far. Yes it's cheap garbage stay away. Far better emulation machines out there.
Sure, I’ll take the plunge on this piece of garbage..
Whenever these kinds of things pop up I can't help but wonder if the morality dial of these kinds of people is broken or something.
Like, copying is one thing, but this obviously? And then they add Playstation style controllers too lmfao.
Nah, I'll stick to my actual NINTENDO Switch, thank you very much.
No thanks this one doesn't even have the plus or minus buttons.
To be fair, if you're on a very strict budget then this isn't such a bad option. However, you don't need to spend too much more to get a far more robust and reliable handheld - likely with much better battery life and screen too. I guess it comes down to whether you can wait and save up a bit more cash.
But.... Does... It... Drift?
Lol, nah these things are not for me.
@Greatluigi I think the article went way over your head!
@Yosher it comes from China.
Let me inform people here, that Chinese (in their culture) don't even have the concept of "intellectual property."
If a good idea exist, anybody is free to use it. if a product is popular, everybody will copy it. It's a highly highly competitive and cutthroat society and everyone wants their slice of the pie.
On one hand, I agree someone who came up with a great idea deserves rewards. On the other hand, I can understand that very concept of owning an idea is absurd, and if it's a good idea if would surely be best for the world that it be shared freely.
Big Screen
Less Happy
@Anti-Matter it kinda looks like Jin kazama not sure if it’s to show you that it can emulate PlayStation 1 or it’s just a made up image
A proper D-Pad out the box and Game Boy games? Isn't this what the fandom has wanted on Switch for years? Powkiddy seems to know what they're doing.😆
I think i will stick with my anbernic rg 350 for my portable retro emulation needs
Powkiddy generally produces lower quality emulation devices anyway. Right now you're better off buying a miyoo mini for that price.
@Hydra_Spectre Obviously if you can afford steam deck it's the way to go , but this is only 50 bucks and a lot of these retro handhelds specially the 100-200$ ones are pretty darn cool and some have android OS as well.
Steam deck though for 399 base model is absolute beast with everything you would ever want, practically a mini computer. Wish they were in stock !
How gross. This would look infinitely more appealing if it weren’t such a grotesque knock-off.
How did they manage to make an even worse Joycon and also bundle it with DualShock 3?
Holy hell. I can't spit without hitting one of these bootleg-greg retro consoles. But i guess there must be a market, why else produce and spawn a shyte ton of competitors.
Well for one it looks cheap as hell and one of those chinese knockoffs you see.
And secondly you could easily just mod your current switch and emulate the games you want there.
I've been looking into buying a retroid pocket 2+, because it looks cool and emulates everything up to and including GameCube. This on the other hand looks like trash. The way they try to confuse customers by making it similar to the Switch tells me this Powkiddy company only focuses in appearances and imitation and not quality and customer satisfaction.
Such nonsense! Can't see why Powkiddy doing this as they already have good emulation handhelds on market, like RGB10 Max and Max 2, which are pretty nice overall, quality and original looking. Releasing this crappy switch bootleg it looks like wanting to lose rep on purpose... If they want to launch a model something smaller/cheaper than the aforementioned ones, at least don't case it like a bootleg switch
PowKiddy can't for the life of them get the d-pad right.
"big screen, more happy" it kinda makes grammatical sense, but barely. If there are errors on the ads I wonder what other errors lurk within the hardware...
@Greatluigi Really genius?
What next? The earth isn't flat?
