Publisher Outright Games and Dr. Seuss Enterprises has today announced that the Grinch will be making his way back in to the world of video games for the first time in 16 years as The Grinch: Christmas Adventure sneaks onto Switch on 13th October.
Yes, we know — late June is not the time to be thinking about Christmas. But, with the 2023 release schedule already filling up, it was only going to be a matter of time before things started making a festive appearance.
We don't have a lot of information about this one just yet and the above teaser doesn't give all that much away. What we do know, however, is that the game will be a side-scrolling platformer and will follow the basic plot of the Dr Seuss source material, seeing you play as the Grinch, setting out on a mission to ruin Christmas for the residents of Who-ville.
According to the Outright Games website, the game has visuals inspired by the original book and will offer a two-player mode for some present-stealing missions with The Grinch and Max. Developer Casual Brothers has also worked to introduce a number of accessibility features so that the title can be played by even the youngest of gamers.

Featuring colorful visuals inspired by Dr. Seuss's original illustrations from the beloved story, players must embark on a quest as The Grinch to ruin Christmas for The Whos. Accompanied by his faithful dog Max, who will help you to complete dastardly missions to steal all the presents, players will be faced with the spirit of Christmas, from joyful singing to twinkling fairy lights, as they as they make their way across the iconic town of Who-ville.
Complete puzzles to unlock special abilities and gadgets that include snowballs to freeze creatures in your way, including a Santa disguise for stealthy sneaking, a lasso candy cane, and a jumping jetpack. Speed up your devious antics by traversing parts of Who-ville on a sleigh or snowboard. As the story progresses, players will discover the spirit of Christmas and help the Grinch's heart grow three sizes.
Fans can expect to be fully immersed in the story as The Grinch: Christmas Adventures features recognizable environments, characters, and a host of Christmas details that will delight everyone during the festive season.
We still have a few months to go before The Grinch: Christmas Adventures comes to Switch. But that's ok because it's summer now. Let us enjoy the sun for just a little longer, please...

This is such a goofy premise for a full game that I might bite.

The Gingerbread man in that preview image looks like a recolor of the one from the Shrek movies.
Like, aside from the re-attached legs, it's a near-identical design.
Despite their questionable quality, it is an encouraging sign to see more "shovelware" on the system. Takes this old timer right back to the Wii days.
Not every game necessarily needs to be a winner. Sometimes we're just happy with the novelty of seeing our favourite properties in the form of a game. Though it certainly helps if they are least playable with no major performance issues or bugs.
Though it's a little odd to see an "all ages" burglary simulator.
So, just in time for commerce Christmas?

Oh yeah, after so many years on the Dreamcast, a new Grinch game is finally coming.
Well, I never played The Grinch on Dreamcast. I guess it was bad.

My oldest kid is a massive fan of The Grinch, if he could he would watch the movies every day of the year. So um yeah, this will most likely be a Christmas gift purchase for him.
Outright Games is a company that makes nothing but broken, buggy licensed games that could genuinely have been something special if they had like an extra year in the oven. It makes it so frustrating because you can see the developers' talent, but you can't appreciate it when it's obscured by so many glaring issues.
It's like a pizza made with all the right ingredients--freshly picked and fully ripened tomatoes blended with signature spice into a delicious puree, ethically milked cheese from the healthiest of cows and aged to perfection, pepperoni sliced from the finest pork with no byproduct while the pigs were fed a diet of while grain. But then like they only cooked the pizza for five minutes, so it's all raw and doughy and nasty. Like you were so CLOSE, but you went and fumbled it in the end!
Then you have Game Mill, who makes licensed games that are relatively polished and fun from a gameplay perspective, but are lacking in other areas like graphics. Their games are like a pretty decent pizza if you can get past the smell and the look of it. Maybe the two studios just need to merge or something.

Just going from experience of tie in games. Some turn out great but you usually end up with shovelware.

I have quite a lot of games by Outright Games on PS4 such as Paw Patrol games, Transformers Battleground, My Little Pony, Crayola Scoot, etc and they are working fine.
Saying all the games by Outright Games are broken / unplayable is very untrue because I have the games and I didn't even experienced with crashing or buggy experiences from the games I played.
I might have to check this out. its cheap enough, would be a must buy if they got Jim Carey to voice Grinch but I doubt that, atleast it looks like it has some humour in it if the trailer is anything to go by.
