Ready for another batch of Wii 2/"Project Café" rumours? Of course you are. The latest round comes from Gameolosophy — no, us neither — who have gone all-out with claims of fan-favourite developers, third-party loving, storage solutions and more.
The most interesting nugget of a rumour hidden at the bottom of the story is that Retro Studios is already working on a game for the system. The rumour states it isn't a Metroid game but little else.
Separately, the site claims that a Star Fox game is in development for the system. Could the two be related? We'll have to wait to find out.

FPS Zelda. Calling it right now.
@James You clearly know something we don't! Quick! To the rumourmill!
Take flight, my pretties!
I've done my bit for the rumour mill already this week. Think it's time I left it alone for a bit
Starfox. I'm calling it. They did so AMAZING with Metroid Prime and DKCR that i would think it godly if they tried out thier skills on Starfox.
F-Zero plox.
If Zelda ever goes FPS I'll kill myself
Probably a new Donkey Kong, the last one sold well and I'm sure Nintendo want to repeat that on the next console and I can't see it going to another developer when Retro have already invested a lot or resources into it. Hopefully it won't be a 2D platformer, but better than DK64. I would like to think Nintendo have given Starfox to the Sin and Punishment team at Treasure.
Starfox and Retro would be a interesting twist.. I hope it is Starfox.. But i would also like to see it maybe come for 3DS too If retro would do 2 versions.. Wii 2 and 3DS
Would Nintendo be gutsy enough to hand these guys the keys to Mario? I think so.
I'm willing to bet that whatever it is they've been working on it for a while. They released MP3 in 2007 and, lets be honest, the trilogy and DKCR wouldn't have taken two years each to finish.
I'm putting my money on something big ready and looking REALLY good for launch. Starfox makes sense but I'm sure whatever it is it'll be awesome.
Betting my gil on it being a true Donkey Kong 64 sequel! Something loooooong overdue that I imagine a couple of people out there want.
I don't see what Star Fox would gain from Retro Studios. I'd love to be proven wrong, though.
They seem to be best with games previously known for atmospheric qualities such as Metroid and Donkey Kong Country. I'd love a Retro Studios Castlevania, but since it's a Konami franchise, I don't see that happening very soon.
EDIT: Actually, a Star Fox Adventures-style game would be right up their ally. Star Fox Adventures shared some of the same developers as Donkey Kong Country and both games had similar atmospheres. The only issue is that most fans want a traditional Star Fox.
At last! Ice Climbers 2!
Fireplacing 2
@rwq Triple Flying Sports. Or something along the lines of that.
Although I am hoping that they make a game alongside with another company. It's been nearly three years since the last one came out, that's a little less than the average length between the game releases in the series.
audi famaaam... illiuuus...
I would love to see Retro take the wheel with a new Starfox. Really, they seem to have quite the range (shooters/2D platfomers), so any IP they work on, I'll be excited for.
FPS ANIMAL CROSSING!!!
GTA Animal Crossing style
So The Wii Successor is an X-Box 360..right?
Can anybody name some games made by Retro? I'm a little off today...
Most of those rumours could be a year old and talking about a certain handheld that just came out a month ago...I'm predicting a March 2012 launch for this social hot spot of a Cafe where people walk around with name tags and not serial numbers
@Emil987 Metroid Prime Trilogy, Donkey Kong Country Returns.
Kid Icarus
Why does it have to be an existing franchise? Would Nintendo finally let Retro Studios produce a new IP?
But like Donkey Kong, Nintendo have farmed the Starfox games to several companies (Namco and Rare for Donkey Kong, Argonaut, Q-Games, Rare and Namco for Starfox), but it's highly unlikely Nintendo are gooing to ask Retro Studios to make them a Zelda or Mario game (even if it was a mario/zelda gaiden).
A few years ago, when Retro Studios were developing IPs for the Gamecube, Nintendo cancelled them all (they lost a lot of employees because of this), so they probably aren't allowed to make new IPs anyway...
eh I trust them with anything nintendo related; whatever thy make will yurn out awesome anyway, lets only hope this is a "Project cafe" launch title
Earthbound
If Retro does Starfox it's a day 1 purchase for me. Hands-down.
i have been longing for a dk64 2 game forever. so im really hoping they will make it. or starfox,or jet force gemini
JET FORCE GEMINI 2! can you you imagine?...the landscapes, the weapons, the bosses, the music, THE ANTS
i would pick up a wii 2 on launch day for that
All these rumors are killing me. Stop with them already. Can't e3 get here quicker somehow. Me goes into south park time warp!!
@6 doesn't orcania of time 3d have some fps in it?
There is also rumor that a StarFox game is in the works for Super Wii...I wonder if Retro is working on that.
Jet Force Gemini is a Rare game through and through. If anyone is going to develop a sequel, it sure ain't Retro and Nintendo.
@ motang
Isn't that what the article says?
I do hope they make a StarFox game for Wii 2,
and dare I say with ground missions! (of course they'd be a million times better than the ones in assault.)
retro + Star Fox = EPIC WIN. I would love to see retro make a Star Fox game, they have certainly proved them selves well capable of anything Nintendo throws at them.
I hope its Duck Hunt 2!
Retro Studios was also formed from the team that made Turok.
I hope it's a new IP.
In the tradition of taking games and making them first person, they're making a first person F-Zero for 3DS. It comes with a free chunder-bucket attachment.
NEWSFLASH: Nintendo Owned Company Working On Nintendo Game
If it's Retro Studios making a game, you know that it'll be good. I'm all for this if it's true.
Everything about that article looks kind of sketchy. Hey guys, indeed.
It needs to be something completely innovative though.. and Worthy of HD and lots of FMV if that is what they might fill a BlueRay disc.. It could be some sort of new game that will sell millions like mario or even a game with all the characters like smashbros but maybe more of a sidescroller rather than a fighter... thats my guess.. Ill call it Super Nintendo Bros
By the time I graduate the Artist position will be taken
Long before.... D:
Oh, and it pretty much IS confirmed they are working on a new title (for Nintendo's next console).
"It's something everyone wants us to do" - Retro
Wow, haven't checked in in a while but wow has the rumormill gone wild. Where's my official Nintendo statement(s)? Rumors are fun for a sec but they just get me hyped for nothing, I needs "official" ASAP
@XD375: How is Star Fox 64 not atmosperic? Every planet/space sector in that game is bursting with atmospere. I can deffinatly see Retro doing a sort of hybrid game with space shooter levels and foot misions that play out like Metroid Prime 3, more specifically like the bits where you collect the fuel cells at the end of the game.
Really at this point anything by Retro would be good.
I'm predicting either a new Star Fox game, like the article stated, or Donkey Kong Country Returns 2.
I call EarthBound! =P
...oh, man, can you imagine? x.x
I call: SF or F-Zero the style art work for both game series just seems fitting for Retro
@James... yes, you indeed have done that!
But, I want a new 2D Metroid!
@49: My reaction would be an instant coma. Upon waking, I would think it was just a dream, then when I found out it wasn't, my mind would be blown into thousands of fragments. Thanks a lot, Retro Studios.
I want them to either work on a new IP or bring back another abandoned game, but not Star Fox.
@1&6: That's something I haven't heard in a while. But wait, there's already a Zelda game in development. They could probably make it work, though. These are the guys behind Metroid Prime.
They actually just pretty recently put up on their website that they are looking to have a few positions filled.
http://retrostudios.com/careers.asp
@TheDarkness The space segments of Star Fox have no atmosphere.
omfg... super wii would be such a good name for the wii successor
Oh man, I want a Retro studios game ON THE CURRENT WII one last time!
But looking forward to it all the same!
"Expect games to be coming to this system that you would never expect on a Nintendo console" + "A first person shooter that people love will be ported to the 3DS. I can’t say what game, but it’s popular among FPS games." = Halo (Still I'd rather have my Banjo-ThreeieDS)
Portaltroid.
I wish it was June already. Though, since it's Retro, whatever they're making is in good hands.
DAY 1...lol.
Finally a Star Fox game for the Wii!
Or Wii 2
-I also waiting for a 2D Metroid game, the last one was years of years ago
Whatever it is, I'm sure it will be awesome. Retro are gods among game developers.
I hear its meant to be Eternal darkness 2. either way if retro make it ive bought it already!
