Teyon remains one of the most prolific publishers on the 3DS eShop, and it's now announced another release; in this case it's an RPG that's making it out of Japan - Excave will arrive in North America on 19th February for $4.99, with Europe "following soon".
As you'd expect on a dungeon-crawling RPG the storyline is heavy on averting doom, in this case battling through dungeons under the Imperial City as war rages above. More interesting is the promise of a substantial equipment and levelling system along with 50 dungeon levels, including five boss fights; if the gameplay stacks up that could certainly provide decent value for money.
You can see a trailer and some screenshots for this below - is this now on your radar?

Agh! we need Baldur's Gate Dark alliance for GC!
This looks great, especially for the price. I'll be sure to pick it up.
I hope smaller games like this keep releasing for the system. Gunman Clive, Xeodrifter, Azure Striker, and now what seems like a decently meaty dungeon-crawler.
@cfgk24 I wish they'd bring that back for WiiU. Maybe the Shadow of Mordor guys can make another Champions of Norrath.
Hmm. I like this genre, but Teyon isn't the best dev . . .
Looks good and you could do a lot worse than that for 5 dollars
Teyon...prolific?
@cbkummer
Teyon is a publisher, not just a developer. They publish a lot of works from other devs. They handled the publishing of Steel Empire, for instance, and that game is pretty sweet.
@Quorthon I didn't realize that. Okay, I'll remain cautiously optimistic about this one, then. I really do love the genre.
@cbkummer
I had a similar feeling about Teyon for a while, because they seemed to choose some poor titles to publish. Their Heavy Fire games are rather uninspired and staggeringly difficult from what I've played, but they also published Cube Tactics for the 3DS, and I found that one generally enjoyable.
If you get that one, though, be warned about a difficulty spike around the 20th level.
Environments seem a bit barren, reminds me of the Evolution games on Dreamcast, but I think they changed every time so they had that as an excuse. The gameplay seems a bit monotonous, even for one of these monotous type button mashers. I was never a fan of Vagrant Story, thought it was highly over rated, and these confined hallways remind me of that.
Still, it's $5, probably worth it, but more as a time killer than a really enjoyable game. I don't know, something about it just says "RPG Maker" to me.
Looks nice but I still have a lot of games I would like to buy for a similar price like the 3 Denpa Men games.
Actually looks cool, ill get this for sure, lets hope EU isnt to far off.
As long as the review I read says it is isn't broken or almost broken I will likely get it.
Game looks good, I'll have to pick it up for that price.
Its on my radar but I might wait for a review of this one. Without online play for this type of gameplay its not going to be a definate buy. I have such a backlog and I'm picking up MH4 on Friday I have to be real picky these days. I still haven't played the Etrian odysseys and one still sits in shrink wrap. If this had online co-op it would be a definate buy. If Final Fantasy Explorers makes it to North America I will be getting that.
Looks nice, might check it out if the review is favourable.
I'd like a demo first, because it looks like it could go either way.
ARPG dungeon crawler not my fav genre. Will wait for a sale. JRPG I would have bought it.
Wow, Nintendo sure does it right with these beautiful little bite sized games! $5.00 is a great price and they don't sit back and rely upon them to make up a substantial portion of the library, but publish them to compliment a great number of first class blockbusters for the 3DS. I am on board!
There are 3 version of the game in Japan (2013, 2014, 2015). I played the 2015 Version about an hour and I liked it a lot. I never played this version (2013) but i think its a good decision from Teyon to bring it to the west.
Finally something I want to get.
I usually stay away from Teyon published drek, but this actually looks quite good.
@BertoFlyingFox Man I loved those games. Both Norrath and Dark Alliance were on top of my list in those days. I played the heck out of those games........Ah the memories.
Looks pretty cool and I do love those action rpg's. For 5$ it's pretty tempting and it could be cool on my New 3DS Red XL but will I stay away from MH4U long enough to play this? Hmmmm......I'll check it out.
As old school as it gets! I'll be waiting 4 a rewiew.
Pretty tempting for $5 but at the same time the animations look very rigid and not very satisfying. I'll wait for a review or a longplay video before I make a move.
@SunshineHunter
Um, this really has nothing to do with Nintendo. Nintendo didn't make the game, Nintendo isn't publishing the game, and Nintendo doesn't set the prices.
The company you should be praising is Teyon.
@Moon
Basically it means a lot so, yeah they are.
