In today's Nintendo Direct, Star Fox Zero was finally nailed down with a firm release date for North America, which will be on April 22nd of next year - it's just 'April' in Europe for now.
While many will no doubt be disappointed with this news after the game was initially promised for a Holiday release, it certainly doesn't seem to be for nothing. The new footage of the game appears much more polished than it did at E3 and the vehicle transformations seem like they'll add a suitable layer of versatility to engagements with Andross's forces. Check out this new trailer:

Looks very nice. Although I don't like the fact that it got delayed a few months, I'm thankful that I can save up for the game.
Hopefully the wait is worth it.
still getting this and I'm happy about the release date because I have another little one on the way so the games being that spaced out means I'll be able to get them all.
Direct "we previously announced that this game would be delayed, but..."
Me: squeep!!
Direct "we can now confirm..." (we've pushed it back another 3 months.)
Me:..."thanks Nintendo".
April seems like ages away.
They changed the name of the game to No Man's Fox.
The new footage really looked great! Definitely better than the E3 videos. Can't wait for April 22th.
What has changed! No multiplayer, still the crap two screen controls!
@Lord What makes you say that? As far as I know, there is co-op and online multiplayer isn't ruled out yet. And what are you talking about? The Two-screen-setup is what makes this title so great, otherwise it would just be a Starfox 64 rehash.
No play - no comments, ok
That's on my birthday! How cool, I missed this in the video, but nice to have them actually announce a firm date!
Y es IM READY
So, so, soooooooooooooooooo hyped for this game! Sorry guys, that Cloud Strife trailer was awesome, but this game's trailer knocked it out of the park for me. The only hint that would have made this better is if we got some information like online multiplayer and amiibo functionality. But I'm super hyped!!!!
That's my wife's birthday!
That's much longer of a wait than expected, but I'm still excited for the game. The visuals didn't look drastically improved, but the nuances were appreciated. I do wonder if they changed stuff about what one can do in game.
Also, I'm STILL not a fan of the music. Sigh... it sounds way too Marvel-esque
@sketchturner Happy birthday honey! I got you this game? Never heard of it? Trust me, it'll be amazing
Hell. Yes.
When they said 'We previously said this had been delayed but....' I was all ready to load up some funds to the eshop
The trailer was the best footage of it so far. I know there was a lot of CG mixed in there, but a trailer is meant to get you excited, so sometimes it's for the best to take a bit of creative license.
It's later than I expected- Xenoblade, Twilight Princess, and PS4 to see me over until then!
I glad Nintendo delayed this game, it wasn't looking crash hot at E3,
@KingofSaiyans Looking at the Walker gameplay, I definitely got some Bayonetta-esque vibes from it. Looking forward to it!
It looks so much better.
I might buy it now.
The trailer above is all cgi and shows NO gameplay.
Exciting News! The game is even more delayed than you thought!
It's looking better. I'm still a bit skeptical, but remaining optimistic nevertheless.
@shani let's hope I can turn off the awful dual screen gyro controls! I played it at E3 and it was dire! Graphics I don't care for, but a decent multiplayer is definatly needed.
I dont understand the comments here... no gameplay was shown. How can you guys possibly say anything about its looks?!
@DarkKirby yes I had heard Feb 26th. The UK direct introduced it as 'great news we have worked really hard and am pleased to announce starfox is now going to be released.......'we all thought pre Xmas' .........April 2016
The delay can only mean good news for the quality of end product. When it was initially delayed I figured they were just doing some sprucing up and bug checks, but a 5 month delay sounds like more time to add extra modes and features. Maybe even the multiplayer folks have been asking for.
But out of all the stuff I liked, it's the voice acting that has me most excited. Not only does it seem like they have the cast from SF64/3DS back for this one, but it seems like the tone from those games carried over as well. Here's hoping for some great new one-liners!
@Reusinck While the trailer didnt show gameplay, there was some gameplay shown right after during the Direct. People might be referring to that.
Additionally (at least with the NA trailer) it noted "Not actual gameplay". But not being gameplay doesnt mean it's all pre-rendered CGI. It looked like it used in-game assets and settings as if it were an in-game cutscene with a little bit of post-production touch-up for the trailer. I could be wrong, though.
@Reusinck There was gameplay shown, you must have missed that part I guess?
Can't wait for this game! Downloading XCX right now, too. Early 2016 is looking nice for 3DS and Wii U owners, and I liked how Nintendo put in a tiny bit of Zelda for Wii U in there.
PlatinumGames has done a good job with this. I really hope it will be a great game when it launches.
@Lord Yeah it did.
Ya I knew this game was gonna be great. People were just on a whining-binge after E3.
This is the return of Star Fox. And it's been a long time coming. I would say I can't wait until April but with all these games between now and then, I guess I kinda can lol!
Still looks a bit meh, nice music though!
That is a good date for it to show....I usually have nothing to play around april.
The delay of this makes me think this helps their plans to try and squeeze the life out of the Wii U until NX arrives. Zelda U is coming to NX (maybe a dual release like TP) for sure, and delaying Star Fox is basically Nintendo stalling to make time for the NX launch.
The video showed graphics that were greatly improved compared to what was shown at E3. I liked everything I saw. I wish I could play it tomorrow but I will patiently wait for it while I play one of the other really cool looking games.
The game looked so much better than it did when it was originally shown and with this much more time to polish it up even further I think we are in for something special! The game looks more impressive every time they show it.
Nintendo spreading out these games cause theres nothing to release.
While I'm excited that this is the day before my birthday I'm not excited I have to wait another 5 months its. This game better be fun, and worth the wait.
It's pretty clear that the overall reaction from E3 was underwhelming for Star Fox Zero and Nintendo listened. The trailer shown today has me much more interested in the game than I was previously. The delay from Nov to April probably suggests a major graphics overhaul and controls, too. The delay was announced in late Sept. (I believe) so this gives them a solid 5+ months to improve the game. I am hopeful for the game but it better be improved by the time April rolls around or this game wont do well commercially.
But that's Q2. I hope they've polished it as much as possible before release.
Q) What do you think?
A) It certainly does seem polished up, both in terms of gameplay smoothness and in terms of graphics. Heck, I was one who was content with how things looked before, though much to my expectations it has started to improve from that with time. I'm still liking and interested in the usage of the Gamepad, so I'm glad it was talked about within the showcasing.
Q) Are you looking forward to Star Fox Zero?
A) Yes. It's not a game (or series) that has me seriously hyped, but I am looking forward to it's usage of the gamepad, and I do think I'll have a good time with it. It's arcade, rail shooting style of gameplay is something I do enjoy, and gyro aiming with the Wii U gamepad is always charming.
Q) What do you think of the new release date?
A) It's a bit odd that the EU only has April, whereas other regions got a release date of April 22nd. I do wonder if that means there will be a few days difference for those in the EU. That said, it's still in the same month, and a few days won't make much of a difference.
Although disappointing, the delay is not too much of an issue with Xenoblade to keep us busy.
It does look so much better. I just hope there's enough new content to make it feel not a rehash of SF64 and they include some proper multi player missions and dogfights. SFZero still has a chance of being great.
Guys, uh, I watched the direct over an hour ago and I still cant wipe this stupid grin off my face. Should I seek medical help?
That's later even than I'd expected. Oh, well.
@shani 4guess i did. Will check that out. The trailer really doesnt speak to me for that exact reason...
This game looks like a budget/early PS3 game graphically, and gameplay wise it just seems meh. I don't really understand why everyone is always asking for a new Star Fox but I guess it could be because I've never really played one. Anyway it doesn't look good to me. Hope it's fun though whatever.
Looking good can't wait too hear more about it what the Amiibos wiil do and online if that has been added.
