SteamWorld Heist is out this week on the 3DS eShop, joining Terraria on the portable and FAST Racing NEO on Wii U; along with some other releases it's looking like a crowded update. Image & Form will no doubt be hoping that the SteamWorld brand and anticipation for the turn-based strategy shooter will see it through to strong sales.
The studio has now issued more information ahead of release, confirming that an update targeting January will not only add extra languages (French, Italian, German, Spanish and Russian) but also some new content; "fun game stuff" will arrive. The idea of providing detail on the additional languages now is to encourage non-English speakers to jump in on the launch discount with the promise of further localisation to come; Heist will cost $16.99 / €16.99 / £11.99 until 31st December and have a free HOME Theme, and from the New Year it'll be $19.99 / €19.99 / £14.99 without the theme.
Beyond that the launch trailer is now out, below, which shows off the setting and mechanics.
The developer has also confirmed that the review embargo lifts on 9th December - we don't normally reveal embargoes as that's naughty, but in this case Image & Form has taken the lead. Our review will be with you on that date, when we'll give our opinion on whether this anticipated title hits its targets.

So that's the 9th UK time? So maybe perhaps in say 10 hours?
Can't check out the trailer atm, but I'm quite excited for this game. The review will be important though, cause $17 for an eshop game is enough to make me wait for some opinions. I also want a synopsis on the length; if it's long enough I'll pick it up immediately. Looking for some 3ds longevity, as I haven't used it in a while.
As good of a game Terraria is I've already burned through my PC version.
@MasterWario The devs have been stressing the fact that I t will take you 20 to 25 hours to beat. Even if you run straight to the end you're looking at 17 hours so there's plenty of time to waste here.
@Spoony_Tech Aw, sweet! A lot longer than Steamworld Dig, eh? Thanks for the speedy response!
Definitely going to give it a try... I've never been into anything turn-based, but Steamworld Dig was such a pleasant surprise that I'm going to check out the developers' newest creation... Hopefully it's like a more involved Angry Birds that stays fun and isn't too frustrating.
I don't play on my 3DS much, so this will probably take me a year to finish...
@MasterWario Yeah, quite a bit longer than Dig - and since there's pretty clever New Game+ in Heist (which Dig didn't really have), you're looking at even more playtime. Just a comment about the 20-25 hours: if you're skipping through all the dialog and don't explore a single bit outside the story line, you'll probably finish a bit faster. But we really hope you'll check out the witty [sic] exchanges, upgrades and side missions - at least the first time around! And the five different difficulty levels also gives you something to chew - how high can you go? xD
@imageform Stuff to look forward to! also is it possible for people with the ambassador codes to get the free theme?
Can't wait too play this game n not long now .
This is how two day start to feel like a week. Thursday cant come fast enough
@Undead_terror Yup! Ambassadors will get the theme, too
I'll hopefully get eShop credit for Christmas and grab this and Fast Racing NEO
@tealicious
Lol, lucky you. The wait has been killing me, haha. I'm glad it's almost here!
With this on my new 3DS XL and Xenoblade X on my Wii U I am content till end of January on my gaming needs thougj I have to make some room for Fast Racing Neo it's gonna be a good week for download gamers .
I LOVE turn based games. Not sure how much strategy will come into play here, but it's certainly a unique spin I've never seen before. And seeing as I'm all about expanding comfort zones and trying new things, this game is an absolute must have.
Will be downloading as soon as I get home from work Thursday, alongside FAST Racing Neo on Wii U. Two of the best indie devs each releasing a game on the same day- that's really something. Might even give Terraria a go too. Have to check reviews on that one though...
I can not wait for.steam world heist. it's gonna be fab and with free home screen and free update in January what's not to like. I will be getting this. steam world dig was fabulous and this will be awesome
Just. One. More. Day!
