As most of you are aware, Fire Emblem Fates is only less than two months away from release at this point. The highly anticipated strategic RPG will be following up on 2013's Fire Emblem: Awakening, leaving it with some very big shoes to fill. Nintendo really seems to be doubling down on it, too, as the main unit, Corrin, will soon be arriving as a playable fighter in Super Smash Bros. to raise awareness.
In order to begin generating even more hype, Nintendo has just recently launched a teaser site for the game. You can check it out here; it features screenshots, footage, and some information and details about Fates. A full fledged website is due to go live sometime before the game releases; until then, we'll just have to gaze in awe at all the footage on the site.
What do you think? Will you be picking up Fire Emblem Fates? Do you think it'll be better than Awakening? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

Nice. Now they just need to restock the Special Edition.
I really can't wait for the game to release, I already got the money necessary for the special edition and I already got the special edition pre-ordered. (...assuming there won't be issues when I pick it up)
So freaking stoked. I clocked in hundreds of hours into Awakening.
Yay
I've finally decided on Conquest, and can't wait to play it! Now if only February 19th would get here....
I ordered the SE package....so assuming it gets sent to me I will be playing all 3 versions as soon as I can. Really hoping I connect with Fates more then Awakening.
I can't wait. My most anticipated game of 2016.
Have the LE preordered because:
A) It's the cheapest way to get the full version of the game.
B) It has the name Fire Emblem in the title, so I'm sorta required as an FE fan to get it even if it's a low tier FE game like Awakening was.
Anyway I'll probably have this on the shelf for a while. Doing another playthrough of Radiant Dawn at the moment and finally getting around to playing Tear Ring Saga
"Nintendo really seems to be doubling down on it, too, as the main unit, Corrin, will soon be arriving as a playable fighter in Super Smash Bros. to raise awareness."
Or Sakurai just wanted yet another FE character seeing as he's way too enthusiastic about the series. Looks more like bias on his part than anyone actually liking him and asking for him or to give the game exposure.
@sWiTcHeRoO well he is the creator/artist he can and should do what he wants
@sWiTcHeRoO
It could very well be both of those reasons.
I'm glad that you can get one game at a discounted rate if you buy the other. I could never find a clear answer to if that was the case or not.
I forgot this game is coming out soon. I better pre order.
I got my Special Edition ordered, I truly hope this one is better than Awakening, I didn't like that one anywhere near as much as earlier FEs.
I'm definitely getting this. If I can't get the special edition, then I'm getting Conquest first and Birthright second.
Getting all the versions!!! So pumped!
I was excited initially, but the lack of stock for the Special Edition has kind of killed my hype for it. Not very happy with being forced to get a standard edition and download the other routes, especially considering the lack of a proper account system on Nintendo hardware... Not to mention there are some aspects of the game that reminds me a bit too much of Awakening, art-style and graphics aside.
Still, I'll end up picking up the game one way or another.
I hope Nintendo is smart enough to restock the Special Edition sets; it's ridiculous that most online retailers sold out within AN HOUR of the Direct presentation!
@AVahne I consider radiant dawn much more inferior than awakening because you can say all you want about awakening but at least that game had focus, radiant dawn on the other hand had entire pointless chapters that made the experience frustrating, if not redundant.
Special Edition, let's do this! 😃
@sWiTcHeRoO I remember him saying that the team talked him into it and that he was initially against it. Not saying he isn't a fan, but I don't think Corrin would be in if the game was releasing at a different time. I think if it came out all over the world at the same time as it did in Japan, he probably would've picked another character.
Wish they were being released on Wii U. I'm not buying a shitty handheld.
I would've gotten the special edition, but since I've apparently missed the window for that, I doubt I'll be getting around to buying the game for at least a few years.
@LUIGITORNADO
I brought a new 3DS xl at launch with FE Awakening.
It was worth it to say the least. Granted I would prefer a HD wii u version but that ain't happening so the Special Edition of Fates has been pre ordered.
@FRANKLIN_BADGE Oh no you didn't! I have yet to play Awakening so forgive me if I don't have the basis to compare it to that, but Radiant Dawn was nothing short of a masterpiece imo. I have played FE 2/4/6/7/8/9/10/11 and Radiant Dawn easily comes out on top as my favorite. We need more console FE games...
How can there still be no pre-order for the dual games card in Europe!?
@Rei
I agree. I've been checking sites almost every other day to see if I can place a preorder for the special edition, but the only ones available are a placeholder one, or the two seperate "Birthright"/"Conquest" ones.
I know we've just had Christmas, but I expect it to finally show up in the next week or so if it's that close to release.
@japongt Your words about Radiant Dawn might as well be copy/pasted to my comment regarding Awakening. The people whining about Awakening just can't get with the times. All FE games have had flaws here and there, but that is about it. They've all been solid. People who don't like the artstyle can also go to an unpleasant place far away from me. Play the game for the story and gameplay. I'm just happy the games look as great as they do now. While I strongly prefer the sprites of old (GBA era) and their attack animations, the newer models have charming features themselves.
And even though I do not have Lyn's epic critical hit animations to look at, I ended up being satisfied with Lethality in Awakening. Execution exhibition ftw.
@Blizzia I believe I can agree with you there. Fire Emblem art is certainly something I would never complain about. The old art used in FE 1-5 was super charming as well! I played FE 6 and 7 during 3DS era (better late than never) and I sure enjoyed it, but probably not as much as I could've if I would've played them during their time. The only FE game I wasn't entirely satisfied was 11 (Shadow Dragon). It just left me "is that it?" but even that I enjoyed. Gotta have the heart of a true FE fan!
@Blizzia
So, we can't complain that the game over-stresses character gimmicks? Or that average support quality is much lower due to the overabundance of romantic supports? Or that the game balance is absolutely horrid? Or has a simple, predictable black-and-white by the numbers story? Or that it removed objective variety and had generally poor map design? Or that there was too much fanservice (which FE14 has only exacerbated with battle thong female cavaliers/knights and "let's undermine a major theme in story and advertising for the sake of incest fetishism!")?
People have every right to complain about what's happened to the series. FE14 makes the core gameplay better than Awakening, but does everything else worse.
The series has gone downhill. I'd rather have had Awakening sell half as much if it meant they wouldn't be trying to sell us two teasers for a story before the main one comes out, and if it meant they'd actually start viewing the characters as characters again instead of playthings.
Anyway,
"If you walk the path of Conquest, you must fight to change your misguided kingdom from within."
This? Still? Yeah. That's like saying LotR is about the Scouring of the Shire. That doesn't happen until the last 3 maps.
"but first you must make the most important decision in the history of Fire Emblem."
You mean the decision whether to poke and prod the characters like blow-up dolls and fully say that the management wants to sell out to weebs/otakus?
"Epic storyline centered on your character"
"Epic". The word has been misused so much that I can't even fault them for using this.
@sWiTcHeRoO
I don't think it has anything to do with Sakurai being a fan- I think it has to do with the fact that Fire Emblem is one of Nintendo's hottest properties right now, and Smash Bros is a guaranteed hype machine.
Of course people typically don't ask for a character from a game that isn't out yet and they haven't played yet, but you act like that isn't going to all change in about 6 more weeks. Then everyone will absolutely be raving about Corrin in Smash Bros. In 6 weeks, people will indeed be asking for him- well, actually they won't have to because he's already in!
So ya, it's unfair to pretend this character is unwanted when the character's respective game hasn't released yet. Wait until after Fates tops the charts in 45 days, then come back and say nobody wants him.
And I think the complaints stating "oh it's ANOTHER Fire Emblem character" are completely unfounded given that Corrin is one of the most interesting and unique characters to date. He may be "another Fire Emblem character" in name, but when it comes to play style he's anything but. I genuinely don't understand how anyone could complain about a character who morphs into parts of a dragon, then in the same breath press on about how we should have gotten another cartoon icon like Rayman, Shovel Knight or Shantae, as if we didn't have enough of THOSE already too.
***For the record I'm actually in favor of all of those characters, I just wanted to expose the nonsensical nature of complaining about a truly unique character with a move set unlike any other character to date in favor of any number of cartoon-style mascots, which the game has FAR more of than it does Fire Emblem characters.
@Iggly
I can't wait to get this game either, especially after playing Awakening and enjoying it. After seeing all the footage and info for this game, Fates is no doubt the only 2016 game I'm actually hyped for.
Was going to come here and complain about this monstrosity known as Fates, but looks like @CrazedCavalier beat me to it. Thanks for saving me some time, buddy.
@JaxonH You know what we really need is Shrek in Smash
On a more serious note, I'm really looking forward both Corrin and Bayonetta as well as there being a release date for FE Fates outside NA.
@Rei It's slightly unnerving isn't it? I would have pre-ordered months ago if I could!
...Also, why don't we get an EU teaser site?
@Grumblevolcano
No doubt, Corrin and Bayonetta are beyond hype!
I'm surprised to hear Fire Emblem Fates doesn't have an EU release date yet...? Well, at least you know it's coming…
Gosh dang I'm so excited for FE Fates- the game looks nearly perfect, and I obsolutely love how they've created a dual release with overarching storyline. Just brilliant. It's like we're getting 2 Fire Emblem games at once- well not "like", we ARE getting 2 games at once.
@JaxonH No release date yet is probably due to the same reason Awakening came out 2 months later in Europe than NA (localization to make sure those PEGI/USK/etc. ratings aren't too high). I expect next month when it comes out in NA that there will be another wave of "censorship" articles, stuff like:
I hope they have one of those early download things on eshop, so I can play right when it launches. Going to get both versions at launch and the 3rd version later.
Hopefully Corrin comes out for Smash same day or sometime close as he is going to be my new main.
@JaxonH

You misunderstand. I don't care if we get more FE characters, anybody is fine with me as long as it's a new character over a veteran (as nice as they are, and them being slightly redone in this game is great, new blood feels a lot fresher and much more fun regardless). While I'm not outright interested in Corrin (and definitely not Fates for specific reasons) out of the last batch of DLC, I will still buy him, mostly because I play Smash tournaments and need him, and given that I enjoy using most of the roster anyway, I will give him a chance unconditionally.
All I'm saying is his addition feels like it's Sakurai being biased in favor for Fire Emblem, what with wanting to add Robin and Lucina because he really enjoyed Awakening. It just makes it feel like Corrin's inclusion is the exact same scenario, in that he added the character out of his enjoyment rather than anyone begging for it, especially with the ballot going on where they could've seen if anyone even asked for Corrin (though, what do I know, the results are kept away from us anyway).

?????
I never even said anything about that lmao. Hell, I'm one of the same people that would much rather have a Nintendo character, Corrin included, over undeserving indies like SK, Shantae, etc., and other characters like Rayman. If anything, I voted for Isaac and I'm not even mad with the results, despite being uninterested in Fates and never playing Bayonetta. Hell, Bayonetta being in made me try her game (which I enjoyed greatly, though its absurdly short length left a sour taste in my mouth at the same time :/ ), and I couldn't be any more excited for her. Cloud also turned out to be amazing and I'm thoroughly enjoying him aside from my main, Shulk.
Seriously though you're kinda ranting in the wrong place here. You misunderstood my original comment and, while people DO complain about more swordsmen/FE characters/whatever, I couldn't care less about that as I personally favor disjointed characters anyway. All I'm saying is Corrin feels like a biased addition from Sakurai, no complaints attached whatsoever.
@japongt I didn't like it because I felt it was a rushed, unnecessary sequel to path of radiance, just look at the return of the greil mercenaries, it is in the game just because, not to mention that the characters you begin the game with are useless compared to them. I rest my case.
P.S. Nothing beats shadow dragon as the worst fe game out there, as it is the only game with abysmal graphics and gameplay, a terrible terrible remake of a great game.
Was excited for these games, but splitting them into 2 games for NA put a sour taste in my mouth and now I don't really feel like playing them. Maybe if I can find them cheaper some day.
@sWiTcHeRoO
No, I know you didn't say that, and I guess I should've explained that I had gotten off on a tangent- it wasn't you that I was referring to saying that, I guess I was speaking in general to a lot of the things I've heard
@JaxonH It's ok, at least you understand now.
@FRANKLIN_BADGE I felt everything apart from how bad the Dawn Brigade's stats were in Radiant Dawn was pretty good. That 1 fact alone though kind of messes up the later chapters of Part 1, a few chapters of Part 3 and a few chapters of Part 4. If a HD Radiance collection was ever made, their stats would totally need to be improved.
just in time for Corrin to be released in Smash soon... In febuary...
soon...
Oh boy. I can't wait to see how they censor it.

I kind of want to get this game, play up til the choice, then put the game down and start playing Smash with Corrin. I actually probably will.
@CrazedCavalier I agree this game is a complete disgrace to the Whole FE Series!
@CrazedCavalier I don't even know where to begin with all this drivel you're flinging at me. Our opinions differ. So let me put it this way: That's, just, like, your opinion, man.
I don't really feel like telling you why I disagree on almost every single point you made. All I can say is that regardless of how much of a veteran you and I are, one is stuck in the past while one has moved on with the franchise. I loved how Fire Emblem was in the past. I still love how it is now. I don't feel like it has gotten worse. Between every single game, certain things have changed, for better or worse, but it has always (and by always I mean with EVERY. SINGLE. Fire Emblem game I've played, which is a lot) been a solid experience, and nothing short of enjoyable the whole way through.
Now, my favorite game still remains Fire Emblem: Blazing Sword, if we look at sprites, since nothing can compare with Lyn's crit animations imo, but otherwise, I'd say Awakening (so far) has been my favorite game. It had its flaws, like every other FE game, but overall it was enjoyable and kept me coming back to replay it in one way or another.
@Blizzia I've only played the localized handheld games. I'll be upfront and say that I'm 16 years old.
You saying people have "no right to complain" is just trying to shut people up and keep them from spreading their opinions.
As for my points, let's see:
Characters have critical/skill proc quotes which are themed around their gimmick, barracks/event tiles have quotes themed around their gimmick, buying/selling weapons for them has quotes themed around their gimmick, and the majority of supports are themed around their gimmick.
Yeah, the game kind of disservices a lot of its characters by doing so.
Awakening's maps don't feel like they were designed with any specific strategy in mind; a lot of them are relatively barren. The higher difficulties just throw more enemies at you with broken forged weapons: artificial difficulty if I've ever seen it.
As for fanservice, the worst the series had was Lyn. The FE8 dancer bared her stomach, and a couple Taguel were suggestive, but Lyn was the most fanservice the series had. Then Awakening's female class designs and Aversa happened.
@Soren From everything I've read and seen, the core gameplay is a massive step up from Awakening, and it's arguably the most well-balanced game in the series. That's why I'm getting it: for the gameplay. Calling it a "monstrosity" takes things way too seriously.
I can still enjoy it, but it's just not what it used to be.
If anything, considering how Nintendo actually had to butt in and hold back "Team B" in regards to skinship and the like, we might see some re-structuring and toning down of things in FE15.
TL;DR you're being a bit over-dramatic; try and enjoy it for the gameplay.
@CrazedCavalier I don't feel that you being 16 years and only having played the localized game should discredit your opinion, just to be perfectly clear
I also don't know why you keep acting as if I've said that people have no right to complain? If you re-read the two comments I've made, I have not even once uttered that people have "no right to complain".
I've said that the people who keep whining about the new artstyle and the way the characters now interact more deeply with each other based on their personalities and gimmicks are clinging to the past. This does not mean they have no right to complain. I'd actually say it gives them more right to complain than the people who've moved with the franchise. That does not mean I have to agree with their complaints, however, since my opinion is very different.
I don't see how everything being themed around the characters disservices them in any way though. In fact I find it charming, and instead of the characters being sticks with the word "unit#" in their face, I can really connect with the characters and the universe.
I agree with the map layout for Awakening. It did not live up to the standards of old, but well, I found myself enjoying having the odds against me, despite it being artificial difficulty. I agree with it not being real difficulty though.
Here is where I sort of lose my composure, however, because I need to actually react to what you wrote. I'm sorry, but WHAT? Are you kidding me? Are you actually serious here? LYN? LYN IS THE WORST FANSERVICE THE SERIES HAS HAD? LYN? THE LYNDIS? I'm sorry but I cannot assume you were serious when you wrote that. Lyndis has nothing to do with fanservice. Her attire is appropriate for nomadic people, and in no way did she act inappropriate during the entirety of Fire Emblem: Blazing Sword.
Now, mind you, I could have misunderstood your comment about Lyn, since it can either be understood as in you thought Lyn was bad enough, and THEN it got worse with Awakening class designs, or that you thought Lyn was as bad as the fanservice got (which was not bad at all), and then it went to hell with Awakening. So if I misunderstood that part, just ignore it.
Awakening class designs had oddballs here and there, but overall it was decent. I disliked Sorcerer and Dark Flier designs.
Anyway, my opinion is still that I like the direction the franchise is headed in, with the small exception of a few minor details which happen to change every game. I've played a bit of Fates though, and the gameplay is downright amazing and solid. I cannot comment on the story since I only got to like chapter 7 in Conquest and chapter 8 in Birthright (decided to hold off for now till I get the localized game(s)), but all in all it is shaping up to be yet another solid entry in the Fire Emblem franchise.
@Blizzia Lyn was as bad as it got, and then it went downhill with Awakening. So my point was it really wasn't much before then. Fates now has pantsless female cavaliers, paladins, knights, and generals to go along with Awakening's great knights. And they added a camera option to keep it focused directly behind the unit, so you can see their battle thongs/bare butts.
As for Awakening's characters, are you admitting that you view them as a bunch of larger-than-life, walking animea tropes? Because my point was that the game disservices them by focusing way too much on their "gimmick" than any actual character they may have. I can relate to the characters when they're realistic; not when they're going on and on about one thing.
@CrazedCavalier Ahh okay, well in that case you may ignore the part of my reply surrounding the misunderstanding.
You clearly seem to be against nimble armor, so I won't comment on the battle thongs and whatnot beyond this single comment: Some of the battle outfits don't use these "sexy" parts for the fanservice, but because it makes it easier to move around like that. If you take an interest in this claim, feel free to bury yourself in history books which will prove it many times over
I view Awakening's characters the same way I've viewed all Fire Emblem characters. As people with emotions and beliefs. Some of them might end up having convictions that end up seeming like gimmicks simply because that is the purpose of their life at this passage in time. Others are less one-dimensional because they've got more on their plate at that point. And as with any game, some characters are more fleshed out than others.
So to answer your question: I do not view them as a "bunch of larger-than-life, walking animea tropes".
My main issue with your point though is that this hasn't exactly changed lately. A character focusing on a "gimmick" and going on and on about one thing has always been a thing in Fire Emblem. Heck, several characters have done that in all games So I don't see anything new in it.
