Digerati Distribution is bringing Code Avarice's Steam shooter Paranautical Activity to the Wii U eShop.
The game - which is a mixture of FPS action and Roguelike elements, all wrapped up in a graphics engine which calls Minecraft to mind - is perhaps most famous for the furore which surrounded its original release on PC.
Back in October 2014, the game was erroneously labelled as an "Early Access" release during a Halloween marketing drive on Steam, despite the fact that it had left the Early Access programme a couple of weeks previously. Developer Mike Maulbeck believed that the mistake cost Code Avarice sales, and took to Twitter to vent his frustration, going as far as to state that he would "kill" Valve boss Gabe Newell.
The now-deleted tweet - obviously issued in the heat of the moment - resulted in the game being pulled from Steam and Maulbeck's departure from Code Avarice. A month later, he was back and the game returned to Steam at the start of 2015. It transpires that Code Avarice sold the game and IP to Digerati, which paved the way for its return to Value's distribution platform. Digerati is also the company publishing the title on the Wii U eShop.
As for the game itself, it features procedurally-generated levels and permadeath - two common Roguelike elements - as well as hordes of enemies and bosses to fight. Upgrades are available to make things a bit easier, and there are plenty of hidden items to seek out.
There's no word on a release date, but the eShop trailer is out there, which suggests we could be playing this sooner rather than later.

This game is kinda fun.
Kimishima, you'd better watch your ***. In all seriousness, I hope this guy's gotten a little better at managing his temper. He had a right to be angry, but that outburst made him hard to take seriously. That said, I have no interest in this game but it doesn't look bad either. I guess we'll see.
Ill be looking forward for a review
Hmm, can't watch the video as I'm in work, but what's been said about it above I think I might bite if it's less than €12.
If ever there was an overreaction on the Internet to some throwaway comment. . . .
This game looks cool, and I hope people ignore all the bullsh*t politics and give it a fair chance.
I like the voxel-based visuals, but I just can't seem to get into first-person shooters. Oh well, maybe if the price is good enough.
He's going to kill Gabe Newell? lol
@ricklongo i feel the same way...actually, not just fps but fp in general...BUT as you said, if the price is good enough.
Yawn. Call me when someone who actually kills Gabe Newell releases a game. Or maybe I'll do it.

............come on guys, trying to get famous here!
This guy doesn't sound like someone I want to support.
@DarthNocturnal Well, it's kinda wrong to say anything bad—if we're just thinking about how we'd like things to be in an ideal world—but the punishment should fit the crime. In this case it absolutely did not. The Internet basically went on a witch hunt, and that's after all the other stuff that happened to the guy and his game on Steam itself. It was absurd. That isn't even up for debate.
It wasn't just one comment, he was posting several immature and aggressively entitled posts before that. But it's your money, if this is the type of person you enjoy giving money to, go ahead.
Kinda Reminds Me of Trove, odd enough.
looks like it could be an interesting game.
The main problem with the internet is that people are posting their private thoughts on it. Lesson to be learned: keep your thoughts private.
As for the game itself, I don't really know much about it
Guess I will keep a eye socket on it.
Looks decent alright. If the price is right I'll check it out. And about the comments the guy made... So many juvenile people in the business and he's probably one of them. Watch your tongue in the future and it's all good though. Killing is bad, mmmm-k?
I like the look of this
I own this game on Steam and I can honestly say I would not buy it again on Wii U. There is nothing spectacular about it by any means. Ziggurat is a much better game with the same concept.
This game is barebones POS with no actual depth - sadly, it only sounds interesting, gameplay is awful.
Thankfully, I got it with HB with other games. For 10 euro, because that will probably be the price (8,99 on steam), you can get more, and better too.
FYI, "Lord Gaben" is the final boss. Really!
Looks ok. Good to see someone try this type of game out on the WiiU, it's certainly a gap Nintendo aren't aiming to fill.
If there's a demo I'll give it a go. I don't know the full story with the Twitter and the Gabe Newall and the anger so trying not to judge it on that.
Lord Gaben will live forever until Half Life 3 releases.
LOL
The game looks fun. **** the rest of the article.
I'll always be glad I know to direct my anger in a productive or at least benign manner.
Oh, it's that guy.
No thanks. The game LOOKS like a generic early access PC game to begin with, and then you have the developer who acts like a sociopath and starts raving about killing people when Steam makes a mistake in the way it labels the game.
You couldn't pay me to play this.
