Hello Kitty is one of those franchises that just feels like it's just always been there. It's tough to pin down what exactly made the character so famous, as Hello Kitty has appeared in countless forms of merchandise, as well as in some video games and TV Shows. Regardless of what gave it such pop culture recognition, few could dispute that Hello Kitty is one of the most recognizable characters in existence, so it seems logical that it inevitably would show up in Super Mario Maker.
That's right, costumes of both Hello Kitty and My Melody – one of the many furry friends that have cropped up over the franchise's run – are due to be coming to the popular level editor later this week. Better yet, Nintendo of Japan decided to throw together a short video showing off the characters in action. Take a look:
What do you think? Who should show up next as a costume in Super Mario Maker? What experiences have you had with the Hello Kitty franchise? Drop us a comment in the section below.
Thanks to Ryan Millar for the tip

I sent in the tip as well. As for the next costume, what about a Gamecube costume? And pressing up could do the load up logo.
Complete with sound effects.
And pressing down could turn into the controller.
Super Costume Releaser strikes again!!! Who needs new gameplay features when the complexity of each new character skin changes the way we play so oft? No doubt the most characters in any Nintendo game. Ever.
Love the Hello Kitty costume! Banjo would be a fun costume
Ooow...kay. I think Mario Maker is evolved too much. And then, a lot of licensed characters will invade Mario Maker. How about added with Super Princess Peach emotions (Happy, Sad, Angry, Calm) ? It will become Super Mario & Princess Peach Maker. XD
But it's not Miffy, is it? Therefore I'm disappointed.
Insert complaint about more requested character not getting in the game here.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Great idea. If it's Gamecube though, the only way it's coming my to Wii U is via a £40 remaster. (joke!)
Muper Sanrio Maker.
@JohnnyC
A joke that aptly describes a sad truth.
@AlexSora896 @JohnnyC And it'll only be playable via the Gamecube controller adapter.
@GloverMist they are close enough to have required both owners to have an agreement. Possibly also why this one is wearing a hood.
My kids are even more excited about this than the Super Mario Mash up pack for Minecraft.
Hellno Kitty
Fun fact: there is a Japan only Famicon port of Balloon Kid that replaced the character with Hello Kitty. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balloon_Kid#Hello_Kitty_World
Blegh.. they are ruining the game with stuff like that. Those gross anime ones were already too much.
I'd buy a Hello Kitty amiibo. I have no idea why. I think the Japanese arm of the Illuminati put something in the water.
Worst thing about this, probably the best video game related news Wii U will get all day. sigh
@rjejr Yep. Nintendo's response to Uncharted 4, Doom, and the almost weekly leaks about top-end games coming to the other consoles is to release a 4-colour Hello Kitty outfit. Please can someone at Nintendo hurry up and announce Gamecube Replay? Y'know, a relatively quick and attractive release to get money and some time in the charts?
Yay! More costumes!...Sigh...
Goku when?
YOU GET A MARIO MAKER COSTUME!
YOU GET A MARIO MAKER COSTUME!
EVERYONE GETS A MARIO MAKER COSTUME!!!
Seriously, it's like they ran out of ideas on who to put in as a costume and is just adding randoms now
@JohnnyC Well part of the problem is I have no interest in TMS#FE, which comes out June 24th, which means Ntineod will be spending every $ left in it's non-E3 budget to promote that for an entire month, so we won't even get anything else. And they're holding off on NX news until, who knows. Sometime after Sony shows off PS4K Neo I guess.
And it's more than just leaks on other systems, companies are starting to show off their stuff ahead of E3. I'm one of those oddballs who thinks Ntineod can go it alone as a 1st party and indie machine with only minimal 3rd party support. But going nearly a whole year w/o anything on their home console will make their next home console a hard sell. Out of site, out of mind. Handheld will sell w/ just Monster Hunter and Pokemon and a few other random things.
@rjejr Completely agree. A year without a major release is disastrous. The 3DS has some interesting titles, but they're not likely to guarantee a massive install base next year. I didn't bother with a ps4 until this year, as the last two years the Wii U was my console of choice. I still enjoy it, but the ps4 is now where most of my time goes. And aside from Twilight Princess Hd, I can't see Nintendo getting any of my coins this year either. Suspect that's the same for many.
This is cute and all and I want it but what about the Koopalings?
@rjejr No way in hell are they going to promote Tokyo Mirage Sessions for an entire month. They'll be promoting Kirby up through E3, then Zelda during E3, then TMS for about a week or two (assuming they aren't planning to promote Mario & Sonic). Then it's all about Monster Hunter. I see them promoting that longer than TMS.
@IceClimbers Well, except they already started promoting TMS#FE w/ that awful DJ trailer which seemed like the first of many in a series, so from that trailer until release will be about a month.

I'm still waiting for a costume of the player character from Takeshi's Challenge.
@KickButt_Gaming if i recall hello kitty is like a god in japan with its popularity.
Let em rephrase the subtitle of the article and make it "So ka-why?".
I can't stand these costumes... I still think that Mario Maker is a great tool but with tons of problems and this modifications aren't really making it better.
