There have been a few observed Holidays in Japan this week, which has accounted for later-than-usual Media Create chart results. They have now emerged, however, and bring some good news for Nintendo.
Kirby: Planet Robobot was the biggest arrival this week, with the 3DS title securing top spot - its sales of 144,846 units are impressive, though it hasn't been able to match the equivalent launch sales of Kirby: Triple Deluxe, which shifted 214,208 copies in its debut week. The ongoing love for baseball in Japan saw Konami's latest take 2nd to 4th spot in Sony systems, with the Yo-kai Watch / Romance of the Three Kingdoms spin-off still in fifth place. After a modest debut last week Star Fox Zero (the double pack with Star Fox Guard) only managed to sell another 7,694 copies, as a result dropping to 14th. The top 20 is below with lifetime sales in brackets.
- [3DS] Kirby: Planet Robobot (Nintendo, 04/29/16) – 144,846 (New)

- [3DS] Terraria (Spike Chunsoft, 04/21/16) – 3,968 (11,219)
It was a good week for hardware sales, largely thanks to the public Holidays. The New 3DS LL (XL) gained over 6,000 extra sales and just held off the Vita, while the smaller New 3DS and older models also saw small increases. The Wii U's sales went up by a decent percentage and, in the process, went back into five figures. In fact the only system to sell less was Xbox One, down - erm - one from its previous total; the results are below with last week's sales in brackets.
- PlayStation 4 – 28,578 (20,589)
- New 3DS LL – 20,257 (13,917)
- PlayStation Vita – 20,168 (12,678)
- Wii U – 10,020 (5,968)
- New 3DS – 3,997 (3,268)
- PlayStation 3 – 1,560 (1,153)
- 3DS – 1,091 (939)
- 3DS LL – 233 (137)
- Xbox One – 100 (101)
A decent debut for Kirby's latest in Japan, all told, with the game heading to the West in June.

Excited to see more about the new Kirby game. Star Fox seems to be struggling...
Why is Microsoft even still selling Xbox One in Japan? There's no way their Japanese business is profitable.
Kirby Planet Robobot absolutely deserves those sales, it's a phenomenal installment to the series.
I dare say Star Fox Zero also deserves those sales, having played it, it doesn't spark nearly the same level of enjoyment...
Funnily enough, I had completely forgotten Konami still made "games".
I feel bad for Xbox One. 100 consoles sold.
@manu0 because they can afford to.
I'm looking forward to the new Kirby title I skipped the last one but this one looks awesome.
@IAmDeclanJay
One hundred Xbox Ones sold!
That's one fewer than One Hundred and One Xbox Ones!
One week from now, will they have sold one fewer than One Hundred Xbox Ones?
"Star Fox Zero" on track for 40k LT in Japan. The Platinum Curse continues!
So star fox is basically a failure do to Miyamoto insisting that we have weird controls and the silly FP view on the controller?
I'm enjoying Zero, but it could have been so much better.
I wish they would allow remap of the gyro control to the right stick... Makes So much more sense...
But no Wii music errr.... I mean SFZ is funner this way...
yay kirbs, can't wait to buy
It seems pretty fun, but Ive got to play triple deluxe first, and bravely default and Fates, and bravely second, and AC new leaf... The list just goes on...
That's a disappointing start for Star Ocean, which happens to be one of the PS4 titles I'm anticipating.
Glad to see Kirby do well, but I'm not really feeling Planet Robobot. Triple Deluxe was a bit too "same old" for my tastes, and this looks no different.
@Danrenfroe2016 I COMPLETELY disagree. I LOVE Star Fox Zero. I loved Star Fox 64 and Star Fox 64 3D, and only hoped that I would enjoy Zero at least a little, but for me it's significantly better. I love the control scheme!
Get good
Xbox should personalize each console with the Japanese owner's name. Shouldn't be too much trouble with these numbers.
@leo13 Understand... Its crazy reading the amazon reviews... I really wish they would add an options to use the R stick, would work just a good and remap the r stick to other buttons... I am enjoying the game, BUT i really really really wish they would add more on rails levels. Variety is nice, but it stinks when it gets in the way of the main attraction.
@Danrenfroe2016 I understand that some people don't like the gyro aiming of Star Fox and Splatoon, but for me it's a thousand times better than using the right stick. I thought I'd hate it when I bought Splatoon (I bought it because the right stick is an option so I decided it was ok) and I thought I'd hate it with SF Zero (bought a physical disc instead of downloading because I fully expected to have sold it already) but in both cases after playing awhile using it and getting used to it I am so much better with it than with the right stick aiming I'd never go back.
I hope the NX controller has gyro controls so that this continues.
@Danrenfroe2016
Totally agree they should have included alternate control scheme for Star Fox. Not saying I dislike the gyro, but I do understand options are good.
However, I don't think that's the cause of low sales. I think it's an easy scapegoat, but I truly believe the brand just doesn't have the power it once did. I believe this would have been the outcome regardless. I imagine only a small minority of fan site gamers have totally skipped the game for this reason. The vast majority of the fanbase doesn't follow games closely enough to know the control schemes and all that. They just buy games they like.
@JaxonH I agree. I was really hoping for a gritty reboot. Not M gritty, but Batman begins type gritty reboot. I was thinking a new HD system imagine what they could do with it, and then they squander that idea, I am still going to enjoy it though but it will always be in the back of my mind of what it could be.
Star Ocean, one of my top 10 favorite series', debuts with 20k copies?
It's the game XBX wanted to be. And it gets no love.
I guess there's till the English translation. Considering the team, I'm still looking forward to another playthrough.
Oh, and the Wii U sells 10000+ with nothing else moving. SFZ is a dim bulb in an empty room.
I think the Japanese see the Xbox and its library as all a bit too white and soulless for their tastes. I don't think gritty realism and uncanny valley stuff goes down too well with them. It's probably only selling to westerners living over there.
Does anyone know if Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 3 will be coming to US and Europe. I really hope so!
KIRBY! KIRBY! KIRBY!
I guess we'll never see another Star Fox after the new one flopped this hard. I didn't buy it either. No desire to struggle with the controls on a rail shooter, or wade through boring infiltration missions.
So Kirby is very hot in Japan. I expected as much, since Kirby games get released on a regular basis. Luckily, so far they are really good. Looking forward to it.
@Ralizah
We don't know the North American sales numbers yet. I think people need to give it a couple months here before declaring Star Fox Zero a flop or not.
