Not long ago retail listings suggested that Darksiders: Warmastered Edition had been delayed until 22nd November. A press release from publisher THQ Nordic has now confirmed that's the case, though the detail is a little different for Wii U owners.
The 22nd November date is accurate for PS4, Xbox One and Wii U, but while the Sony and Microsoft systems get both the download and disc version on that date, for Wii U that's just the eShop release. The press release simply states that "a retail version for Wii U will be released at a later stage".
While it's disappointing for fans of physical media, it is at least a positive that the game is still coming to the Wii U alongside other current-gen systems.
Are you tempted to pick this up in November for €20 / $20? Let us know in the comments.

Well maybe this is the reason I never finished the 2nd game! I think I need this game!
I just finished 2 and it's a great game. Lots of atmosphere and plays very well.
I'm picking this one up day 1.
Yeah them games are quality can't wait to see this
...and I only had an email from Base yesterday telling me the release would be 22nd November
I've never played this series, so I'll give this one a spin. I still refuse to allow my poor Wii U to die.
If it's only £15 on the eshop, like it is on Amazon, then I don't mind getting a digital copy.
That's okay with me. I was planning on getting this digital anyway since I have Darksiders II in digital format from one of the eShop's $10 sales.
I'll just get of PS4 then.
Because war...war never changes.
I'll wait for retail. My preorder is like 5 bucks thanks to prime and a gift card.
I'll wait for the retail version then you goons.
I thought about getting this. I might get xenoblade chronicles x instead.
I got an e-mail yesterday from Base.com saying it was being released on 22nd November. It's the best place to buy it, it costs about €16 delivered to Ireland.
If there's an actual release date for the retail version by Nov. 22, I'll hold off. Otherwise, I'll take the digital version.
I plan to get it. I've already got the PC version but this is one I enjoyed enough that I will double dip
@Captain_Gonru Well it's good to see same day as the others, if only digital. @ThanosReXXX should be in here gloating any minute now. Though it looks like we'll have to wait for that Wii U disc date before we know for certain if it makes the holiday.
OK, how can a company announce a 1 month delay only 1 WEEK, 6 DAYS, before the game is set to be on store shelves? And how can the Wii U disc version NOT have a date? Later in Nov., Dec, 2017? Come on, if you are manufacturing a disc surely you know when it's coming out. If the download is available on Nov. 22 then the game is working, so it isn't that.
THQ Nordic, a company that spends more time on it's name than disc manufacturing. Priorities people. 1 week before release is not the time to announce a delay when the whole world suspected it 2 weeks ago. Stay ahead of the situation, tell your customers when you tell the retailers.
Thanks for keeping up on this @ThomasBW84 not that I wasn't, it's been an ongoing dispute.
@rjejr I feel no need to gloat, my friend, I always knew this was going to happen, and I'm more inclined to let events speak for themselves...
And I have a feeling that disc will be there in time for the Christmas Tree...
Fantastic game. Way better than the 2nd game and honestly, it's even better than most Zelda games, in my opinion anyway
This was one of my fave games of the last generation, will definitely be picking up the remaster at some point
@rjejr as for the reason behind it: putting something digital from a server onto an eShop isn't all that hard or labour-intensive.
A production process pressing discs and manufacturing boxes and inlays is, so they might have some schedule and prospect, but they also have to do some calculations on numbers and so on. I don't think they are going to make 13 million copies for Wii U, so maybe they'll do a couple of small print runs, and these have to be carefully planned.
But I stand by the Christmas gift release window...
@ThomasBW84 What is it good for? Absolutely nothing.
@Samuel-Flutter YOU WIN THE PRIZE!!!*
*There is no prize
My Amazon pre order for the physical Wii U copy has always stated 31st December, which I presumed was a placeholder anyway. I'll wait for physical, even if it's early 2017. I'll always go physical over digital where possible, especially at £15!
How much you wanna bet that "later" date eventually becomes never Once again, the Nintendo fans getted the crap end of the stick.
@GravyThief Cheaper than that at Base.
Nooooo, i actually wanted this game to release arround that date physically. I'll have to wait...
@abbyhitter Any respectable gamer has Darksiders 2 on physical AND digital
Aaw man. Wtf I have preordered and payed for the discversion allready. They really should learn to prioritize right. Why bother releasing a discversion for X1 and PS4 when you need to install it completely on the console anyway? The real game collectors buy a discversion for the WiiU.
I want this game to succeed, just wish it was a game I actually cared about.
@gcunit actually it's costing me £13 from Amazon with the new Prime discount they now offer, so I'm happy. Never heard of Base before though, will certainly check it out for new games in the future.
Hopefully a third entry will be made!
@ThanosReXXX Yeah, I know you don't gloat, just messing with you.
And obviously I understand manufacturing is more difficult then flipping a switch on a server, which is why digital games should ALWAYS BE CHEAPER THAN DISCS but why delay Wii U but not the other 2? The discs were supposed to be in stores next Tuesday, so they've already had an extra month to make them. Something ain't right. And Gamestop still doesn't have it listed.
Hope you're right about the b4 Xmas disc date, otherwise, why bother, if it's on sale for $20 digitally for over a month?
@gcunit I couldn't pass up the cheaper digital price. Everywhere I looked was selling Darksiders II for $40 and $50. I really don't mind having digital retail games.
I might be interested in this game if it doesn't have the accidentally delete the game by pressing x and a snafu. Did that by accident and lost everything.... (In the second game on Wii U)
@abbyhitter Yeh, don't blame you. I just got lucky finding a used copy going cheap right around the time of the Humble Bundle, so I went from zero to hero in about a week iirc.
@Captain_Gonru "But, bright side, it IS still showing up at all, even if we only ever get it digitally."
Why does the bright side of being a Wii U owner always seem to mean being thankful for the vaseline?
Too many clouds, not enough silver linings. Guess I started my "NX is being revealed tomorrow" avatar a bit too soon. #justellus
Maybe they are holding off on the Wii U disc so they can release it the same day as the NX disc? Ninty is doing it w/ Zelda, so they wouldn't be the first to make us wait. I'd be honestly excited for a digital Wii U Zelda Nov 22. But no, everybody else is doing more for Wii U than Ntineod.
Even though I have a Wii U, I'd rather play the superior version on PC for a lower price.
Yes definitely
So, with this, there are now two Wii U retail games that I'm looking forward to!...except I've already played this one. And the other is similar, but probably bigger and better. But it also might come out on the NX, which could be an Orange Juicer for all we know...
As long as there's still going to BE a physical edition, I'm fine with this.
If there are enough improvements I will get this on Wii U.
Retail version for Wii U for me but i'll probably can't wait n end up getting the download version aswell day one.
Just bought part 2 for 8 euros at my local store. I will wait for the physical version of part 1.
Got the first one on steam never really touched it ~
If I still had a Wii U, this would be the only game I picked up this year...
Meh, I want my disc. That's alright though.
I will wait for the disc release then.
I want it physical as I get a discount on Prime at Amazon and I like discs. Hope it comes physical soon!
