With Nintendo going into full-on lockdown mode as far as Switch details are concerned the rumour mill is operating at full capacity. The latest report to come out of LetsPlayVideoGames - the site which has already been proven correct on several key Switch details and purports to have several sources close to Nintendo - is that the untitled Super Mario sequel and Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim will both be available at launch.
With regards to Super Mario, LPVG gives the following details:
The title will apparently feature a 3D open world hub from which different worlds can be selected, with multiple objectives to complete in each, much like Mario 64 or Mario Galaxy. This may seem obvious, but we share this information to specify that this will not be a Super Mario 3D World-style game where the action is in 3D, but each stage is a linear path designed to be completed a single time.
The multiplayer teased in the trailer will be a co-op version of the main game, with both players able to work together toward objectives, but with a form of tether to keep the players from going too far from each other. Player two's gameplay will not hold player one back from progress, but player two can be the one to complete an objective and be shown as receiving the level end reward. A screen will then show how much of the progress toward that success was down to each player, like how many red coins each player collected in a red coin stage.
Skyrim is also definitely happening, despite Bethesda's refusal to categorically state that the title is Switch-bound. LPVG's source states that it will be the recently-released remastered version of the game and will allow mods "post-launch". Like the PS4 version, these mods will be limited to existing in-game assets.
One of LPVG's sources claims that a new version of Splatoon will accompany the Switch at launch, possibly as a pack-in for the higher-price bundle, rumoured to be £249.99:
A big part of the push for this will be a 1 vs 1 mode where two players on separate Switches can fight over a map, switching their weapon of choice at will mid-game. Nintendo expects the short match nature of Splatoon to translate well to handheld multiplayer, in that players need only commit a few minutes to a full multiplayer match.
There are also plans to add additional single player content to the game, and for the Switch version of the game to have a similar free content output schedule to the one the Wii U version of the game enjoyed.
Finally, LPVG has reinforced reports that Zelda: Breath of the Wild will miss the Switch launch. The site says that the Wii U version will also come later than March.

Oooooh let it be true....
Sounds good.
Keep them rumours coming
I'd rather these rumours would stop. If they're good-news rumours that turn out not to be true, then that'll just lead to disappointment. If they're good-news rumours that are actually true, then I feel that kind of takes away from the actual reveal of.. whatever the rumours were about.
Please, rumours, stop.
@Yosher best thing to do is not read them if they affect you. I guess they do put rumour at the front of the topic.
Happy gaming
I always had this gut feeling that Zelda would be delayed again 😞
And that is looking to be the case now 😪
@Great_Gonzalez It's not delayed, they never said it would release in March.
Nintendo is unpredictable, I think they will have a launch game that will surprise everyone. It won't be what you're expecting.
Any rumours that basically do nothing but repeat existing rumours can just be ignored if you as me, as it's impossible to tell whether or not they're just repeating the existing rumours to make it sound as if they're getting the latest leaks.
If Zelda is delayed again I'm going to be crushed.
@SanderEvers So what you're saying is that Nintendo has a..Mighty Switch Force..huh? 😂 Dedicated to building the hype for this console.
@MailOrderNinja They said it would be released in 2017 and that's still the case AFAIK.
Whatever....
@UK-Nintendo I try not to read rumours but if they're all over the internet, AND people you know constantly talk about them as well, then it becomes rather hard to avoid them. I don't mind a rumour or two but there's so many out there now, it's become rather tedious.
@SanderEvers If Nintendo really is feeding people these kinds of rumours, then that just makes me wonder if Nintendo really doesn't know of a better way to keep the hype train rolling along. Seems kind of weird to me, but oh well, if this is the way they're choosing to go about it.. I guess we'll just have to live with it. :B
Nintendo leaked the launch month (March 2017) on the European press site, so I'm pretty sure that launch window was accurate as it tied in to a few leaked dates for the amiibo's.
Splatoon, Mario and Elder Scrolls will be good enough launch titles alone if we dont get BOTW.
Seriously. I am gonna buy the swiitch no matter what. I am not gonna buy ps4 pro or scorpio. There will definitely be nintendo games to play. Zelda will come out sooner or later. Couldnt care less about skyrim.
What else is there to know for me?
Wonder if theres gonna be skyrim amiibos
sounds awesome !!
maybe bethesda didnt confirm skyrim remastered for switch, because they thought it could hurt the sales for pc, ps4 and xbox one versions.
@BinaryFragger
Technically you can do that with PC with Moonlight
Please, Nintendo, make enough units for us all to get a Switch at launch.
Let no preorder go unserved. Let no soul in the cold, early morning line go away without one.
@SanderEvers I guess this would also explain why people leaking this kind of stuff aren't forced to take down their messages either, then. XP
Splatoon would be an ideal pack-in. Remember the DS had a Metroid demo packed in and not a mini game collection.
It's a quick easy port that would offer some chops and demo the hardware. Hopefully the portable version won't have gyro aiming and instead have decent right stick controls.
OK. At first that no Zelda thing at launch was going to be bad, but now that there is a Skyrim to fill that void then all is well with this rumor. I think it is a smart move because it lets the Diehards try a really cool game why we wait for BotW. I'm planning to buy three games at launch anyway, so those three combined fit the bill. If I wouldn't buy three Skyrim would be my first choice then Splatoon, and then Mario.
@kingc8 Splatoon sold a lot of WiiUs actually and has sold over 4 mil copies total.
I was never an online multiplayer kinda person so I never bought Splatoon when it came out. If its the only way of getting a Switch with more storage I might give it a shot. Seems strange that they'd choose Splatoon over Mario as the launch bundle considering they want everyone to buy in early, not just people like us. Still rumours obviously but Laura and her team have gotten a lot right in the last couple months
I bought Splatoon a few months ago because although initally I wasn't interested in it for its multiplayer and online nature, there was a significant sale and got it for about 15 euros.
I haven't had time for playing it and remains sealed, so I'm considering now to wait, not unseal it and sell it, because it seems that there actually will be a definitive edition in Switch.
Time will tell but it's all extremely plausible.
Loose lips...
Except for the Switch. Because, by gum, this is a promising rumor!
Packing in splatoon will sell the system. It will make people curious as those who see nintendo launches usually see mario titles as a given for a launch game and sometimes dismiss the system as "typical" nintendo. Mixing it up will pique some customers interest IMO
For the record, we were originally supposed to be playing Zelda Wii U in 2015 (which nobody including my grandmother believed). Then we were going to have it Fall of this year. Then it was pushed back to be with NX in Nov/Dec of 2016. Then it was March 2017. Now it's rumored to be pushed back even further (summer may still be overly-optimistic). I don't mind a delayed game, but how about they stop giving unrealistic time frames and give us a more concrete date.
The Switch rumors sound awesome though...
@MarioFanatic64 zelda breath was meant to be released in 2014... so yeah kind of delayed... again.
I'm sure Nintendo know marketing better than I do, but a basic multiplayer pack in game (like a limited maps version of Splatoon) on the all versions of the Switch would be fabulous. I know they want to push people to the higher priced bundle, but Wii Sports was great & it just leaves a bad taste if the headline priced console doesn't offer good value, forcing you to buy the higher priced option.
@MarioFanatic64
Don't want to argue but they certainly did.. many times.
In fact I was one of the 30 who played it at hyper Japan and can tell you that march 2017 was mentioned several times.
I hope this is just a false rumour. Do they really hope to sell a console with one Brand new game, an old wiiU one that everyone already has and a 6 months-later remaster of a 6 years old game?
As long as we get a BOTW special edition Switch that's all I care about.
@arnoldlayne83 At what point did they say that these were the only games?
@NintyFan So Wii U owners have to re-buy them again? Nintendo love to repack their games and resold them again and again. Even after 30 years they are still selling their NES games...
@Nintendian Just think about what you said. 30 years later, Nintendo is still able to generate sales from past games. In my opinion that's pretty incredible.
@Nintendian Yeah, and look at the NES mini, sold like hot cakes.
If it's true it'd be pretty cool. I'm sure all those games would hold me over until Zelda and others arrive. This would be my first time playing Skyrim. Can't wait!
Disappointed about Zelda..
Still plan to purchase the Switch, and maybe get Skyrim a try since I haven't played it yet.
Doesn't sound bad (Zelda is concerning), but it's a rumor so...
@Nintendo_Ninja Not quite sure what's concerning about Zelda, it sounds like a late spring/early summer release. Which has been done by Nintendo the past couple years. Mario kart 8 May 30, 2014. Splatoon May 28, 2015. And If you say it might affect sales, tell me how Splatoon did.
@YeshaYahu5417 I still don't trust this talk of BotW being delayed... localisation taking until December and testing taking 4-6 months may be true, but there's no reason for them to wait until localisation is complete before starting on the testing... they just seem to be jumping to conclusions.
@kingc8 Ummmm....didn't help the Wii u???? What information do you have to back that assertion? Please elaborate.
@Great_Gonzalez Yeah, this slightly bums me out, as I was working to play every one of the games in the series by the time of the release in March. After completing Skyward Sword this month, then working through Spirit Tracks and the original Legend of Zelda in early 2017, I was hoping to move right on to Breath of the Wild. C'est la vie, I suppose - as ever, I trust Nintendo to hold it back and ensure that it's the masterpiece it ought to be.
Splatoon is a good pack-in choice. It's competitive and universal and will get me to buy two Switches fairly early in the year I think. (And the bundle means I won't have to buy several copies to get full multiplayer support).
Now... about that home console issue. Will we get split-screen cooperative mode? Can at least two people play at home with a split screen now? Or would Nintendo go for the hard sell on buying more than one Switch. It's a fundamental question about where the lines are drawn on the "home console you can play on the go" concept.
If this turns out to be true, and you can play two player split screen, and we could have 4 player online games all on the same team playing in the same room (with two tvs though), I will buy two Switches on day one. Lots of ifs all based on a rumor but that's where my head is at.
@6ch6ris6 Wow, that's a really great point! I hadn't considered the sales strategy behind being cagey about a Switch Skyrim, but I'll bet you're hit the nail on the head. Also I love your avatar - Toad's my favorite Nintendo character, and I may be the only person in the world who bought a Wii U primarily to obtain Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, haha.
@DragonEleven
Yeah I agree I don't trust rumors either. Forgot to add in my comment "if this rumor is true." But whatever, there will be something appealing to play at launch anyway.
Ugh I just can't wait until January. Let them talk about pricing, games and then the wait until March. I feel like this has been the most annoying lead into a console launch ever.
@8itmap_k1d True enough though everyone expected March or it wouldn't be news it might be coming out later than expected. I've waited so long to play this game and was really looking forward to it.
@YeshaYahu5417 I'd question whether it actually qualifies as a rumour... it's really just speculation based on actual rumours.
Dissuasion: saying that the remastered version of Skyrim is coming to a console that, in all likelihood, will be little more powerful than 360/PS3/WiiU tech seems rather inaccurate. I could definitely see a game of the year version of the original Skyrim coming, but there's no way this system's getting PS4/XBoxOne tech in it.
Can these be true? I sure hope so. 3D Mario is a day-one buy for me, along with my new Switch console.
I think there needs to be a pack-in game, and an updated Splatoon or Mario Kart makes perfect sense. It costs little for Nintendo to make one of these, and their sales potentials are limited by the fact that so many people already own the Wii U editions.
I just see them appealing to fans more as a pack-in, too. Personally, I would be excited for an improved MK8 on the Switch, but I'd probably never actually buy it separately. A pack-in capitalizes on that excitement without asking fans to repurchase a game they already own.
@Yosher Expecting not to hear about a next gen Nintendo console on a site dedicated to Nintendo sounds like it is bound to leave you disappointed.
I'm really tired of these rumors now. Before the Switch reveal it was ok, but now it seems like there's a daily rumor, that does nothing but set false expectations. I get it, I can't wait for the Jan-2017 conference, but filling the news with rumors in the meantime is no way of filling the void of new info.
Interesting the Switch might come with Splatoon as a pack in. Certainly not a Wii Sport/Nintendo Land tech demo type game but it would show that Nintendo's giving the casual gamers a backseat and focusing more on us more dedicated gamers instead.
And hell, with the new downloadable content, they could easily keep supporting the game till the Switch's successor comes around.... XD
Q: What kind of games does everyone think it should launch with to capture a wide audience?
1. Mario
2. Skyrim
3. Splatoon
4. NBA 2k16
5. New title from Yacht Games
?
I don't want Splatoon as a pack in.....
edit: Idk how I missed "in the higher priced bundle" the first time.
@NintyFan
Mario Kart 8 Plus ?
I can definitely wait for Zelda if we have 3D Mario AND Skyrim Remastered at launch.
I think the only reason more people didn't buy Splatoon is because the Wii U itself was a disaster. I certainly would have bought it if I had any desire to own a Wii U. Since I will be getting a Switch, this is one game I'll definitely consider. I just hope Nintendo has something in store for the fall and the holidays next year.
@Menchi187
So sell it.
Isn't it funny how when one single person says Breath of the Wild won't be a launch title, every other person "coincidentally" decides to release these rumors saying the same thing straight afterwards? That's a common pattern in rumors, and it's a good strategy to make it sound more real. Still, if Zelda isn't a launch title, the Switch won't do too good at launch. Have they not learned from the 3DS launch?
Splatoon Switch as Wii Sport would be a smart idea, give it away for free with the system…..
@Gold_Ranger It'll probably be digital, possibly already pre-installed.
edit: Idk how I missed "in the higher priced bundle" the first time.
I've asked for Jan 13th off work. I'll be happy if this rumour is true.
I'm ok with them waiting until January for the date and price, make a big hands on event out of it, but game news should be out there.
There are zero AAA titles I have purchased the last 8 years or so without knowing about them 6 months in advance. January is only 2 months before March. Splatoon and a 5 year old Skyrim remaster is fine, but if there is a new Mario game hype it up like Pokemon Sun&Moon. I guess they want everybody to pay $9.99 first for SMR before revealing the new game.
And Zelda should be shown a lot more by now, regardless of the release date, it was due out last year, they should have plenty to show us without ruining any surprises.
OK, serious question for anybody in the know - should Nintendo be worried that Skyrim remastered overshadows Zelda? That new version looks great, and it has a 5 year history of being great. If Skyrim is at launch and Zelda months later, will Zelda seem lame by comparison? Especially for Nintendo only people who really have never played those type of open world games before? I haven't played Skyrim yet - I own it on PS3 but it's buried in the backlog - but I was already a little worried Hyrule looks lifeless and empty after playing XCX.
Launching Switch with Skyrim Remastered followed soon there after by Zelda seems unfair to Zelda.
@rjejr I'm certainly not an expert on the matter, but I doubt it. Skyrim is old news to a lot of gamers. Maybe not so much to Nintendo gamers, but I don't think it'll be a big deal. After all, Nintendo is trying to draw in more people outside of their fanbase, and most gamers that aren't a fan of Nintendo have either played Skyrim already or just aren't interested. And I'm sure that most people who are fans of Nintendo won't hesitate to pick up BoTW.
Splatoon is a good pack in choice, threy should have left it packed in Wii U with SSBU like they had last Black Friday for $249 or $279. Might not appeal to Wii U owners, but there are only 13 million of us, better off appealing to the rest of the gaming world.
I would love to buy the Switch with Splatoon already installed. I'm not always a big fan of ports, but Splatoon is a game I really enjoy. A game I would really like to see on the Switch and one of the games I already know I will get for my Switch if I can.
@KirbyTheVampire I meant for long time Nintendo gamers. For a lot of them Zelda BotW would have been their first big open world adventure b/c Nintendo consoles haven't really had anything like that. So all of these Nintendo employees have been working for years to give these people their first taste of a new genre, a huge open world adventure, but now they are going to get Skyrim first. That doesn't seem right, to the people making it or playing it.
Of course 1 big difference is Skyrim is first person, another reason I haven't played it as I hate that viewpoint. Don't think too many Nintendo only gamers have had a lot of experience with those either. I wonder if that will work for them? hmm
I rather have Mario as the pack-in, however: "but each stage is a linear path designed to be completed a single time". Hopefully it isn't to lineair!!
If this rumour is true, it will be a superb 1,2,3, knockout punch from Nintendo. Having a new 3D Mario games, an open world RPG in the form of Skyrim Remastered, and the incredible popular new IP from Nintendo that took this Wii U by storm, Splatoon, all three of these games will be system sellers for the Switch. And that's just three of the games we know that may or may not be there at launch, never mind what games are in the launch window like Mario Kart 8 Remastered or even a Smash Bros Wii U Remastered, which is looking more and more likely given we've yet to hear anything about the last three DLC characters amiibo's.
Overall, the Switch is looking to take the gaming world by storm, and if this rumour proves true, it most certainly will. 😄
LOVE IT.
My bet is that these are true. I think packing Splatoon in with the system would a good idea and having a Mario game and quality 3rd party game at launch would be a step in the right direction. I wonder how well Skyrim will do since it's been out for years and the remake will be out for months on the other two systems.
@Henmii
I believe that description within that sentence, after 'where the action is 3D,...' is describing Mario 3D World. They're saying that the new Mario is different to that description, and won't be as linear.
Ahh, more rumours, they drive me insane as they give me false optimism too often... but I can't help but get excited by the prospect of this new Mario 3D game for Switch. If this is real, I'd freak out! In a good way. ^^
@rjejr I don't really think that'll matter. If people who have never owned an open world game play and love Skyrim, why wouldn't they buy another open world game, AKA BoTW? I personally have played many open world games, but I'm pumped for BoTW. I suppose I can't speak for every gamer out there, but I see no reason why people wouldn't buy it if they like Skyrim. Besides, this is just my opinion, but I've always found the Zelda games to have more life and vibrancy than any of The Elder Scrolls games. Combine that with open world, and Nintendo has my money.
Don't get me wrong, I love Skyrim, but the Zelda games have always seemed to be more "alive" than Skyrim.
@NintyFan
That's all great but there must be proper battle stages or else the switch will fail
Oh and a full on Mario chase title
I like that Mario and Skyrim will be there at launch, but not happy Zelda won't be, and think that will hurt launch sales.
As for Splatoon being a pack in game at launch: no thanks. Splatoon is a good game, but having the Switch packed in with a updated Wii U game won't get ppl to buy the system. Should have the system packed in with the new Mario game instead.
So far, I'm losing interest in getting the Switch at launch, and I'm leaning towards getting it later in the year, if these rumours are true.
@SanderEvers That's a little off putting because, Zelda is out so Mario has to be true, I can see splatoon being a not being pack- in but it would be really awful if skyrim isn't on the Switch since we seen the game in the trailer.
@MegaMari0 I'm not sure about that. Uninformed consumers could look at it and think "oh, a port of a wiiu game, a game I already bought twice, and another mario game." Thats not my opinion, just what i can see people saying. But packing in Splatoon will undoubtably help sell the console.
I don't know if my wallet will be able to handle buying the Switch and so many good launch titles at once.
Splatoon is probably the only first party game I didn't buy on Wii u. I didn't like the demo.
I think a great pack-in will be essential for this system to take off. Splatoon is a good choice because it's a solid game almost nobody played.
Obviously these are just rumors, but I'm not so sure about the other games in this lineup. Skyrim probably isn't going to move units. It's a AAA game and, remake or not, that market goes for the "sexy" consoles (i.e., the ones that their friends won't make fun of when they come over).
Co-op Mario also has me a bit worried. Sure it's fun, but aside from NSMB Wii co-op Mario has also been responsible for chasing away the once-a-generation "prestige" Mario game that Nintendo previously could hang their hang on for solid sales. If it's like Galaxy, then they'll be okay. But, again, I can't see this catching fire with the crowd they seem to want to entice with it.
@TearTheRoofOff,
Hmm, you may be right. I hope you are right!
@rjejr
Eh...actually Go Vacation Wii also considered as Open World style for Free Roaming in the 4 different Resorts. Well, created by Bandai Namco but published by Nintendo. Go Vacation Wii was one of Kid friendly / Family oriented of Open World style game.
I feel this is a big mistake by Nintendo if true. Splatoon needs an existing audience to thrive so would be better off as a summer title at the earliest while MK8 being a pack-in title. Also like I've said before, BotW should've been a launch title instead of 3D Mario as we haven't had a 3D Zelda since 2011 and there's all those promises which never came to be like 2015 release, 2016 release, Wii U version, etc. (the further away BotW is from launch, the less likely a Wii U version will be released)
But hey, does any of this really matter when each store is only going to have around 5 consoles of which most of them go directly to scalpers.
@Grumblevolcano
Agreed. But hey if I can wait in line I will if not then I won't get a switch. I can't find a classic nes for the same stupid reason.
Darn you, Nintendo! (read: brilliant move).
I was hoping to put my Switch purchase off til Holidays 2017. But if Spla2n is the pack in, I cannot wait that long. Such a brilliant game and I (for one) loved having Splatoon day one and slowing growing with the game every step of the way as it expanded.
Nintendo does need to go hard with the Switch inventory., especially if an online game is the first pack in. You need peeps online for the experience to work Nintendo!
Ok so this rumour I hope is true, we'll except for the no Zelda at launch. How long do they need for this Zelda?
@firstnesfan I believe the rumors are that it'll be released sometime this summer. That hasn't been confirmed though, but it seems likely.
If all of these port-remaster-rumors are true then I'll be both happy and utterly miserable.
I would love to get them all, but I can't buy them second time so fast.
Also rumors are now saying that the Pokemon game for switch is real thing, now THAT would be superbegazlicious.
What I really like to know about all those "leakers" is how they get information. Is everyone just so happy to break NDAs and risk their career? And why don't they keep it to themselves? But I guess professional leaker is a good career.
And I just want to say, give me MK9 and Spla2n. I don't want any of this port nonesense.
I'll take it with a grain of salt but an original 3D Mario and an enhanced Splatoon would definitely make for one of Nintendo's best 1st party launch line-ups.
It's a pretty clever idea to put the enhanced Splatoon as the pack in since a lot of people will buy the 3D Mario regardless.
"The title will apparently feature a 3D open world hub from which different worlds can be selected, with multiple objectives to complete in each, much like Mario 64 or Mario Galaxy. This may seem obvious, but we share this information to specify that this will not be a Super Mario 3D World-style game where the action is in 3D, but each stage is a linear path designed to be completed a single time."
Sooo... like SM3DW, or like SM64? Which one? Good ol' Rumors. I'll wait until Nintendo's announcement.
This would make for a fantastic launch day. An addictive multiplayer shooter, a new 3D Mario and a massive RPG all at launch? Sign me up.
@Kalmaro I love hearing official news about this stuff, I'm just sick of rumours is all.
This report excites me if it's true, but as with all rumors I'm taking things with a truckload of salt.
Ugh, the fact that they reinforced the Zelda rumour has me way too worried, I don't want it to be true. I've taken every delay fairly well so far, and have remained calm and patient but if they're going to delay it until summer I think I'm going to lose my cool.
Seriously Nintendo, stop giving dates if you can't meet them. Just shut your damn mouths until the game is 100% done and then give the release date. This is beyond ridiculous.
If Splatoon is the pack in game, then I'll be looking at the cheaper SKU.
Having 3D Mario and Skyrim as the headliners with a Splatoon pack in is an EXCELLENT 1-2-3 punch.
Oh great, copying Sony with all these ports
I hope the launch is more than this, because if all we have is 1 new mario and Skyrim (already on other systems) and a Splattoon remake, the software sounds pretty weak to me.
Only time will tell if this rumor is true. But that's a nice little lineup there if it's true.
Both day one purchase's.
That's pretty cool if Splatoon is the pack in game.
@Grumblevolcano If Splatoon is the pack in title then everyone that buys the Switch "Premium' pack will own the game.Packing it in introduces a whole new audience that may not have considered it otherwise.Hopefully they'll give it a try and see it's different to what they expected. There should be huge numbers online day one I'd say.
It seems strange to have Splatoon as a pack in. Sure it's known to be fun but it's also associated with the Wii U, so hopefully people don't think that the NS is just a new Wii U pad.
Mario at launch will be pretty great. Mario and Zelda would have been awesome though.
Splatoon is a good pack-in because Nintendo fans don't want to buy a multiplayer only game. Not having (old) Smash Bros. or (old) Mario Kart at launch is pathetic and not having Zelda is worse.
I now really want a Splatoon package, even though I'll probably wait a little bit before buying the Nintendo Switch.
My expectation for starter Switch games are :
1. Mario Kart 8 (Switch edition)
2. Any 3D Mario games
3. Something cute, colorful and interesting titles.
4. Mii based games.
5. Cartoonish cute RPG.
For future release, I expect for:
1. Animal Crossing Switch edition
2. Mario Kart 9
3. NintendogSwitch ???
4. Bokujou monogatari on Switch ???
5. Switch Party ???
6. Kingdom Hearts 3 ???
7. Somewhat like Go Vacation Wii
8. Rhythm games by Japanese developers
9. HD Girlie games
10. Pokemon games in HD
If Splatoon requires that each Switch system have a copy of the game to run multiplayer (which is likely since it's multi is the core of the experience), then it makes a lot of sense to make it the pack-in game with the system. Hopefully multiple Switches can run on the same internet connection so that you can get local pairs/ teams playing online together, easier.
I'm all for this as I love Splatoon, I know some people that the game isn't their style. Hopefully they'll have a different pack-in game option available.
Bad game choices. Mario is fine but the others? No way.
Pretty good news all around if these rumors are true.
Actually, having Splatoon as a pack-in can be a very good idea. Not many got to experience it the first time, it will be a remaster so little lost revenue, and it will bring a strong multiplayer base together.
@Anti-Matter We own Go Vacation, and while it is a big world I always considered it more of a mini-game compilation than an "open world" game. It was open, but there was no story, I think an open world game needs a story otherwise it's just Minecraft. Minecraft is as open world as they come but most people consider it a "sandbox" game, not open world, and I think that is due to the lack of a narrative. That's just me though.
I'm playing Lego City Undercover now and it's a very open world game w/ a strong narrative and a lot of building and destruction similar to Minecraft but I still don't feel like I'm playing an open world game. The Tomb Raider reboot a few years back felt open world to me even though most of it was very linear.
I don't know, I guess it's all just feel for me, and Go Vacation didn't feel like a sandbox or open world game, just getting from 1 mini-game to the next.
