Back when Inti Creates’ Azure Striker Gunvolt first launched on the eShop, there was a little game called Mighty Gunvolt that was handed out for free to anyone who purchased the game within a certain period. Mighty Gunvolt acted as something of an 8-bit demake of Azure Striker Gunvolt, featuring run ‘n’ gun gameplay that drew many parallels to that of the Mega Man series. It was a short but sweet experience, and evidently Inti Creates has more ideas on the concept, as a sequel was just revealed.
Mighty Gunvolt Burst is due to get a full reveal this weekend at BitSummit, but the latest issue of Famitsu leaked the details early. Gameplay appears to be quite similar to its predecessor, but there will now be a character growth system and a ‘Burst’ combo system in which extra points are handed out for taking out adjacent enemies in quick succession. The game will be starring Beck—of Mighty No. 9 (in)fame—and Gunvolt, and is due out on the 3DS and Switch eShops at an undisclosed date. No doubt we’ll have more information—and hopefully some gameplay footage—when the full reveal takes palce this weekend.
What do you think? Which platform will you pick this up for? What did you think of the original Mighty Gunvolt? Drop us a comment in the section below.

More games, all good. However, I'm buying no more until I complete just one game that I have already!
The only good game Beck will be in, clearly.
@SCAssassin Damn.
(it's probably true though)
Definitely picking it up on Switch. I love the Gunvolt series. I hope the release isn't too far off.
As a side note, the latest episode of The Cat Mario Show has a small bit of gameplay (about four seconds) at the 8:19 mark:
Insta-buy for 3DS and Switch. Loved the original Mighty Gunvolt!!
Is Ekoro gonna be in this one?
This is excellent news, but alas i guess yet another digital.
This is going to be good. I noticed Beck is in there. His appearance in the original Mighty Gunvolt was superior to his own game.
Liked the original Mighty Gunvolt, so no doubt I'll be picking this up once it releases overseas. For which system? I dunno...probably on Switch if the 3DS version doesn't utilize its touch screen to good use.
@SCAssassin shots fired
@Elpizo I hope so. It'd be weird to see her miss out on Burst.
Cool, hope they bring Azure Striker 1/2
Different sites are saying different things, is it a sequel or a remake of the first one?
Can't wait to play it
I kept seeing references to Beck being in the game and I genuinely thought they were talking about this guy...

Woohooo, YIIK is back. And Unholy Heights is fun as well. Looking forward to Kingdom: Two Crowns and a bunch of other games in this direct.
Definitely picking this up on 3DS
Good news for me, because I enjoyed Mighty Gunvolt way more than both Azure Stiker and Mighty No. 9
Looks great, certainly a million miles ahead of Mighty No. 9. Interested in the Switch version for sure.
...not to be ungrateful but didn't gunvolt 1 and 2 go to PC? Why can't we get those ported too? (I have 1 but have yet to install it so this could be a dual screen interface thing and I don't realize it)
Edit: Nevermind.
I've always wanted to try this series but I've heard it can be annoyingly difficult. For myself, the Mega Man series can be fun in some ways, but they aren't in my favorite NES games list because of their difficulty.
@SKTTR
7:55 She Remembered Caterpillars
I don't care what this game is. Name like that? Day 1!!!
Great news! I really liked Mighty Gunvolt on 3DS, and I'll definitely be getting this on Switch!
If nothing else, looks like I will be well stocked on 2D platformers for the Switch for the next couple of years. All now on my watchlist: Mighty Gunvolt Burst, Steamworld Dig 2, Owlboy, Gonner, Hollow Knight, Cave Story+...
YIIK has to be well up there, though - for variety, if nothing else.
They're still trying to get us to care about Beck?! LOL
Alright I'm buy for Switch
Rejoice, I shall..!!
(8-bit fan)
@KIRO feels good to stop buying games and try to beat at least 2 for every new one that you get. i skipped mk8 so i can enjoy fast rmx a little more and that game gets better and better.
Definitely grabbing this one on Switch. Looks way better than the atrocity that was Mighty No.9. This is more of what I originally hoped for anyway. Never played ASG but, it's a game style that's right up my alley.
@SCAssassin that's not true... there's also the first mighty gunvolt game.
Awesome! Speaking of which, I really should try to finish the first game, which is yet still on my 3DS...
I'll get it on Switch. The first Mighty Gunvolt game was great! Kinda lazy on a few things. But I enjoyed it thoroughly. Surprised they even kept Beck in it, considering all the negativity tied to him.
This'll be the best Mighty No. 9 game to date! DD
Mighty number 9 still has not released on Vita or 3DS.
I still haven't managed to ever beat Elise in Mighty Gunvolt, that fight is just brutal
absolutely getting this though
So why did the European version of the 1st Azure Striker Gunvolt never get the patch that would've added all of the removed content?
This news made me so happy!! I actually liked Mighty Gunvolt even more than Azure Striker....
Don't get me wrong; both are GREAT, but nothing beats a good 8-bit side-scroller as far as I'm concerned. And it was beyond good.
Looks like Ekoro isn't making the cut this time.
@sonicmeerkat
I'm pretty sure those were quietly swept under the rug.
I got Mighty Gunvolt on 3DS, but was a bit burned by its difficulty.
The devs went a bit overboard with the whole "hard as you remember Megaman games to be" angle.
Hopefully this game will be a bit more forgiving.
I'll be getting this. I quite enjoyed the first one (especially since it was free!). Glad to see Beck's back. He's a cool character. It's a shame about his own game, if it's as bad as they say.
Nice screenshots. Could be fun.
@SCAssassin so damn true
@audiobrainiac sadly, it is. The first stage is fun and looks promising, but everything else goes downhill after that. Save yourself some money, I'd say.
I will be getting this whichever system gets it. But im also interested in that YIIK that @OnetninAges video up above. I thought that was still coming to Wii-U. But to Switch even better
YES! CANT WAIT FOR THIS! Getting it on the Switch!
