This week sees the release of the retro sports title Tecmo Bowl on the Nintendo Switch eShop. As usual, it supports 1-2 players and will set you back $7.99 / £6.29.
Here's the rundown:
"TECMO BOWL" is an American football game released by TECMO in 1987.
Experience matches as a player of either the WILDCATS or BULLDOGS. Predict your opponent’s moves and steal the ball! Use passes and runs to cut through their line and score an amazing touchdown!
The original cabinet version of this game was last added to the Virtual Console Arcade line on the Nintendo Wii in 2009.
Compared to the NES iteration of Tecmo Bowl (currently available on the Nintendo Switch Online service), this version includes improved visuals – with a larger colour palette and more detailed sprite work. For more information about this game, take a look at our review.

Since we'll probably never get Tecmo Super Bowl, I'll take any of the other early versions.
I'll likely just stick to the one on the NES App.
Ah, Tecmo Bowl, it was a fun game back then.
Cool need some more pigskin on the Switch!
"Is this the Arcade Archives release you've been waiting for?" No, not really...
It's decent. It might take my money one day in a moment of weakness
Well it's kind of an interesting old arcade American football game but not exactly a title I would get excited about. I already experienced this on the Wii Virtual Console and it's not as good as the NES version but it has an appealing style of it's own. Overall I would like to see some more arcade games from the late 80's and early 90's so this is a start.
If you are looking for a North American Football fix, go with Mutant Football League. So much fun!
OH HECK YES. GIMME
@MasterGraveheart just play the one on NSO.
Not a fan of hamster games. The controls are always weird and the game never is what it was before. This I can say for any system they release for.
I would had been more excited for this one had the NES one wasn't available for free through NSO. Still good for those who had never play the arcade one though.
😔 Another sports game.
@Dirty0814 I'm not questioning your taste in video games, but most of the ports handled by Hamster have options to change the controls.
I remember this in an Atlantic City arcade and was blown away by the graphics and gameplay at that time . . .and was so stoked when the title of same name was announced for the NES. The NES version was wayyy better and its successor Tecmo Super Bowl was the best of the three (modders are still releasing annual installments with updated rosters!). So this is the grandfather of the legendary arcade football series that some of us grew up on. Worth $7.99 if for no other reason than nostalgia's sake.
Just been playing this. Easy to pick up and still a lot of fun.
@bluedogrulez it's 4players. That's worth something if you have friends.
@sixrings or kids ; )
I don't see my self buying it (Since I own the NES Mini) But it is a pretty fun game even if your not into sport games it's genuinely fun
