We're not quite sure what's gotten into everyone, but yet another excellent fan-made Paper Mario mashup has appeared and this time, Sonic's getting in on the action.
Twitter user and animator Sightseeker Animates has shared the short, work-in-progress clip you can see below. Just like the Star Fox, Legend of Zelda, and Ice Climber projects we've seen recently (you should definitely check those out if you missed them, by the way), it reimagines Sonic in a Paper Mario-inspired game.
Neat, huh?
We're certainly up for seeing more of these creations, so feel free to send them our way if you happen to spot any more. With Paper Mario: The Origami King just around the corner for Nintendo Switch, the timing's pretty perfect!
Would you like to see other franchises adopt the Paper style? Which other series do you think would work best? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.

Did you know that “Kawaii” autocorrects to “Kuwaiti”? Either way, design wise this is great
Thanks, I hate it.
Still better than Forces.
Paper (any video game ever) again?
Well I think it's cool.
It didn’t feel like a sonic game it like a Sonic game trying to to hard to be Paper Mario.
@mesome713 I already disliked your opinions. But you just crossed a line.
I’ll play it. I would
@Goat_FromBOTW thank you. I liked yours
@TheLightSpirit Just play Bug Fables. I hope NL reviews it.
Sonic wishes his creators had this much creativity. There’s a million times more talent here than the entire Sonic Team. Sonic will always and forever be mediocre and nothing else. The character’s legacy is forever tainted with more terrible games than good ones. Go away Sonic- You’re not cool and never will be.
That's very cute!
But really, Sonic should be getting rings instead of star points. ^^
@NookMiler they probably will, it made their upcoming games video for this month
@Alpha008 Hope so, it looks like it's high quality.
a Legend of Zelda game in the style of the older Paper Mario game would be intereting.
Never understood the appeal of wasting your time and effort on fan games, on something you'll never own.
Instead, create your own game inspired by the games you love, like BUG FABLES.
That's the style of Sticker Star, not The Thousand Year Door. The giveaway is Sonic's white outline.
@Porky There actually was no white outline in Sticker Star.
@Goat_FromBOTW what did he say? His comment has been deleted?
Why do some people on this site hate on Sonic so bad? I think some people like to forget that the Adventure games,Colors,Unleashed,Generations,Mania, the Advance games, the Rush games were all enjoyed and well-recieved when they came out. I bet most of the people hating haven't even played any of those games.
The great thing about this style is that it doesn't really age. The "paper" series is ageless. All they would have to do in an HD remaster of any of the older titles would be to render the game at a higher resolution. That's pretty much it. The games look great regardless.
That's part of what I think we are losing in the push toward hyper realism in games. They become a product of their era much more obviously than stylized titles.
I feel like almost anything could get the "paper treatment" and look good at this point. Pokemon anyone? Sign me up! Or how about Fire Emblem? Xenoblade?
@Orpheus79V Sorry, I meant Color Splash. It probably is just me but the white outline really bothers me; so unnecessary! I prefer the older games look.
This is the weakest one. Its just thousand year door with Sonic.
@HammerKirby it is a nintendo site what you expect
@Tendogamerxxx same goes to paper mario developing team
@ajoor yeah I guess it's just kinda strange to me since Sonic has been on Nintendo platforms for for nearly 20 years. It's kinda strange that some people still seem engaged in the old 16 bit war lol
@Tendogamerxxx Christ man did Sonic touch you inappropriately or something?
Just make it like a regular Sonic game. Sonic jumps on enemy, rolls and hits enemy, etc... Enough of this turn based rpg crap!
