Day after day this week, Sonic the Hedgehog voice actors have been announcing they're moving on from the series.
One fan favourite, Mike Pollock - who does the voice of Sonic's antagonist Dr. Eggman - has taken to Twitter to confirm he won't be going anywhere. In other words, he's staying on with Sega to continue voicing the character in upcoming Sonic games.
In a follow-up tweet, Mike took a brief moment to address the realities of voice acting. Here's exactly what he had to say:
"On a personal note, I know you'll want to speculate about what happened, and possible casting choices, but please bear in mind that, IRL, actors' careers are steered by auditions, callbacks, bookings and rejections. It's a bit more complicated than choosing sides for kickball."
Mike is the only voice actor in the news this week to really confirm he'll still be part of the Sonic series moving forward.
Just over a week ago, the long-time voice of Sonic, Roger Craig Smith, announced he would be stepping down from the role. This followed with the voice actor of Amy announcing she was done with Sonic, and Tails' voice actor saying she wouldn't be involved in the upcoming Netflix series.
If we hear any other developments, we'll be sure to let you know. Are you glad to hear Mike will be staying on? Leave a comment down below.

OMG YES THANK YOU LORD THANK YOU I would have been so sad if eggman left. it could almost make me cry.
Plot of your next Sonic game, Eggman uses a machine to permanently screw with Sonic and friends' voices.
Hey, if the plot of Rivals can be Eggman using a camera to turn them into trading cards....
Okay but real talk time: he manages to give life to his character in some of the most barren and cringeworthy scripts in all of video games. This makes me very happy! I have a deep respect for him and he always manages to put a smile on my face
Out of all the Sonic VAs, Pollock is the one I'd pick to stay. I know there is a lot of love for the rest of the cast but he's always been the standout of the bunch to me.
Oh thank god. If we lost him, I might have gotten mildly upset but I would have gotten over it.
Must be demoralizing for any actors past and future knowing that Sega considers them expandable while Mike is untouchable.
That's a relief. He was the only one to stay the last time the Sonic cast changed around Sonic Colours, to think he's survived another cast change. Feel kinda bad for the other VAs though
My best memory of Eggman’s voice is in SA2B, where the sound mixing is so utterly dreadful that in the Sand Ocean level he’s totally drowned out by an incredibly loud fire crackling noise. That game’s sound quality is just plain strange.
Deem Bristow (Eggman's VA pre-Shadow the Hedgehog, may he rest in peace) will always be the definitive voice of Eggman to me, but Mike Pollock has definitely done a great job voicing the good doctor in his own right. I was super happy to hear he didn't lose his role voicing Eggman after the 2010 recasting, and I'm once again glad to hear he's still on board after this latest apparent recasting. Pollock honestly is a super talented VA and perhaps the brightest spot in the Sonic voice cast the past 15 or 16 years.
As a side note, I honestly didn't like the 2010-2020 cast very well, so I'm rather curious to see if they pick some better VAs this time around.
How many articles about Sonic character voice acting do we need?! The franchise is a disaster right now and really doesn't warrant all the fuss. Who's next to make an announcement about their "once kinda cool but now very few care" Sonic voice role?!
thanks goodness Mike Pollock is still voicing Dr.Eggman, he too iconic to be replaced, i always associated Mike Pollock with Dr.Eggman
For those who don't know, that "you know what they say" line is from a Shadow The Hedgehog boss fight, Eggman says it like at least 20 times before you can beat him.
It's a bit appropriate as that was Pollock's first role in the games.
Glad for this. He deserves to stay. It is strange though! I am glad that he is the continuity for all this. Nintendo have stuck with one man for 25 odd years, so I am glad that Sega has their own main stay too.
Glad Sega allowed him to confirm that. Sonic VAs' twitters are on fire right now with people asking who is leaving and who is staying and Pollock was quite humorous mentioning all the NDAs they have to sign
I'm sure a part of it is him enjoying a paycheck instead of no paycheck.
@Angelic_Lapras_King Just like from Sonic Rivals 1
Maybe they ditched voice actors because they are continuing with fat aka classic Sonic, who's mute.
@Snatcher tbh i wonder if there is an age factor there since all the characters that left are younger but the actors aren't getting any younger themselves but Eggman was... well, an older character to start with.
Sonic wouldn't be Sonic without him
The only voice actor that matters in Sonic.
@nessisonett You heard voice acting? I only heard loud music.
Fantastic news, in all honesty - wonder if he'll be the only one sticking around, again
I am the Eggman, They are the Eggmen, It’s what I am, “goo goo gjoob” (I Am The Walrus, sung by another Eggman)

So, does that mean eggman won?
Thank goodness!
Oh, good. Was worried with so many Sonic actors saying they wouldn't be continuing with their characters in projects that Eggman was going to be recast too but glad Mike won't be offering us a change of pace any time soon from the sound of it.
I'm not surprised, it was obvious from the start that Mike Pollock was not going anywhere so this isn't surprising at all, but it is very satisfying to know.
He is the Eggman, is what he is.
He is the Eggman, he's got the master plan.
Eh, i didnt like any of their voices honestly.
I feel much better knowing this.
If we can get Ryan Drummond and Mike Pollock in the same game, that would be amazing.
@Dethmunk well, it’s a time of change, and sonic fans are quite attached to these characters, so how they sound is rather important to them.
@nocdaes Because Sonic is still one of the most famous gaming series. Sonic Mania was not too long ago and that was fantastic. There is still hope Sega can make a good sonic game again. If not let the fans take it over and make a game like they did with Mania again.
