Famitsu's Japanese chart figures are now in for the week ending 21st March, revealing that Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury is still leading the pack.
With another estimated 37,396 physical copies sold, Mario's latest adventure managed to fend off Square Enix's new release, Densha de GO!! Hashirou Yamanote Sen, to snag the top spot. Three newcomers actually made their way into the top ten this week, including a physical release of Apex Legends which landed in seventh.
Once again, the entire top ten is made up of Switch games, with a fair few Nintendo favourites mixed in for good measure.
Here are the top ten (first numbers are this week's estimated sales, followed by total sales):
- [NSW] Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury (Nintendo, 02/12/21) – 37,396 (555,517)

Although this is great......I’m eagerly awaiting the next two weeks MHR numbers.
I think we all know what's going to number 1 next week.
One final week before the storm.
It's interesting that the biggest Western games in Japan these days seem to be casual PC ports that get streamed on YouTube/Twitch a lot, while Western Nintendo games like Luigi's Mansion 3 and Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze haven't done so well there (compared to other Nintendo games)
It’s good that one Nintendo Switch exclusive will be unseated from the top by another exclusive. Now let’s turn this success into some big new announcements
Next week onwards for several months is going to be all about MH Rise on these charts.
Bravely Default 2 didn’t hang on long - what a shame. And what on Earth is Jack Jeanne, and who are Broccoli? Off to google...
What will MH Rise do in its opening week? 750,000? 900,000? At least Capcom is likely to have produced enough units.
@UltimateOtaku91 Monster Hunter Rise?
@Krull Monster Hunter Rise shiped around 4 milions units in it opening week.

Switch must be around 80/85 milions consoles sold now and for the following week Monster Hunter Rise is gonna dominate the japanese sales charts.
Oh! A new Densha De GO! I haven't played one of those games since the PS1 days. Anyone know if it's any good?
@Medic_Alert Bowsers Fury is an interesting concept and fun, if a tad repetitive and I'd argue that Mario Odyssey still did the open area gameplay better then this did, Giant Bowser aside. That said I did enjoy it and now I'm replaying Mario 3d World despite already having done so on the Wii U.
As for the price well I bought it and I'm happy that I did so
@UltimateOtaku91
Yep Balan Wonderworld is nailed on!
With how many weeks Nintendo tops the Japanese sales charts, I'm starting to think it will be much easier for everyone to start counting the weeks that they are not at the top.
Much less data to keep track off!
@Medic_Alert "I started to game the system a bit waiting to collect a shine or storing up easy ones just so I could put Bowser back in his box quickly"
I did that as well. My tactic was to save the easy water based shines, such as the Plessy courses, for when he came out (and of course the Bowser blocks) but do the harder land based missions in the daylight. Of course it didn't always work as he would still sometimes intrude during the land based ones, but certainly made it more manageable!
It's definitely the most chaotic Mario game, haha.
@Krull Jack Jeanne is just the usual anime shovelware from the eShop landfill. Hopefully Rise will take the throne for the best MR game, World can suck it
@Medic_Alert Galaxy is amazing and one I regularly return to, New Donk City is probably my favourite ever Mario level, quite how that game hasn't received dlc (new levels) or even a hint of a sequel is mind boggling, plus it gave us a glimpse of what Mario 64 could be if they'd put the effort into it.
Back to Bowsers Fury once I started to play the system it was less frustrating but those lucky island shines were a bit cheap after getting 50. It definitely added to the experience initially but as with this type of gameplay it can either enhance the experience or just make it frustrating depending upon the timing of when it happens. Plus then needing him to destroy walls but you could be about to collect another shine when he pops up. I'd definitely be up for them trying something similar in the future though
Well, at least he's going out on top, with only two days left to live.
Why did the base PS4 outsell the PS4 Pro so hard? O_0
@EmmatheBest Maybe for the fact that it didn't have anything exclusive on it, like New 3DS, to attract more people. Most people didn't care about any small upgrades that Pro brought to the base PS4 so the extra cost wasn't justifiable.
Let's hope the hypothetical Super Switch (Switch Pro sounds dumb and cringe) will be more enticing to upgrade to
Just noticed overall Switch sales doubled overall PS4 sales in Japan. That is insane.
@EmmatheBest you mean this week or in general? PS4 pro is on way to go, everyone wants to play 4k buys PS5. In general it did ok, it was also a niche system, way more expensive than base PS4 that was playing the same games most on 30fps but at a high resolution. I hope when "Switch Pro" get released it will be same price as base Switch and the old unit will get at least a decent discount (like 220$ and 150$ Switch Lite) but knowing how greedy big "N" is i don't get my hopes up
