Today marks the 30th anniversary of Sonic the Hedgehog. Yes, three decades ago, the blue blur got his start on the Sega Genesis in North America.
To celebrate this very special occasion, Nintendo's all-star brawler Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will be hosting a special Sonic-themed spirit board event where you can earn more gold. It starts this weekend and will last for three days.
Nintendo has also released a new Smash Bros. spirit set for NSO members - it contains one random spirit of a legendary attacker and one random spirit of an ace supporter.
This isn't the only Sonic event happening right now - Minecraft has just dropped a new Sonic DLC update which seems to be themed around Sonic Adventure 2.
Will you be participating in this upcoming Smash event? How are you planning on celebrating Sonic's anniversary? Tell us down in the comments.

Any unique new spirits or just cycling through the old ones?
How about adding a new sonic character, and actually giving him a good move set.
How about a surprising release of a sonic game today?
Huh, Nintendo doing more for Sonic's 30th than Zelda's 35th
GO TEAM NINTENDO
No seriously go Nintendo and sort this out
Nintendo making special content in their own game to celebrate their old rival is still mind boggling to me.
How the industry has changed from the fanboy wars of the past… well, at least for the companies. The fanboys still out there warring.
@Bunkerneath Sonic: Makes a Sonic themed Spirit event in Smash Bros.
Zelda: Will release Skyward Sword HD and a Game & Watch: Zelda Edition.
I see... 🤔
@Zach777 I get the impression there's no new spirits.
Might give it a go but have realised I haven't finished World of Light yet, it's massive.
Sonic's in Smash???
That's actually kinda cute and neat. Doesn't add much to represent Sonic but hey, still something for his 30th anniversary.
Think for a second. There's no Robotnik/Eggman present...
Last DLC fighter?
So little bits of DLC for Smash and Minecraft? Slow done there Sega! Don't get too wild and crazy with Sonic's anniversary.
