If it wasn't already obvious enough, Paramount Pictures is planning to go big with the live-action version of Sonic the Hedgehog.
After announcing a third movie and live-action Knuckles series in February for Paramount Plus, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 movie producer Toby Ascher has now reiterated how the long-term plan is to create a cinematic universe.
“We’re creating a Sonic cinematic universe, so we knew we were going to add characters, like Tails and Knuckles; new to the films but beloved by gamers all over the world”
There have also recently been rumours about a "Tails Solo Movie" being in development, according to an exclusive on Giant Freakin Robot.
How do you feel about a full-blown cinematic universe based on Sonic the Hedgehog? What other characters do you think we'll eventually see over time?

...They REALLY need to slow down.
Look I know that the first movie was the first actual good video game movie, but maybe wait for the second one so you know it isn’t a fluke.
Sonic at this point doesn't feel like a videogame character anymore. It seems Sonic is doing much better in the comics, movies, and television industry than in his own games which is sad cause he was born as a videogaming icon and had fallen behind multiple times now. If Sonic ever end up no longer becoming a gaming mascot I would accept his fate that way. If he found success elsewhere and retired from gaming altogether that would be a great opportunity for him.
Sega should know better than any company that getting too far ahead of yourself is a quick way to come crashing down.
Okay but where is the Smash cinematic universe already? We have Pikachu (and Jigglypuff and Greninja....and Pokemon Trainer I guess), Sonic, Pixels had Pac-Man, Street Fighter has a couple live-action movies, and soon, everyone in the Mario crew...
Because that's what the Sonic series needs, another universe.
Sorry guy, I know “cinematic universe” is the new Hollywood buzzword, but this ain’t it. It’s a film series. Rocky and Star Wars did it way before you did lol.
would be great to have Tikal show up in a movie one day
Just give me movies based on the sonic games, that all I ask, I don't need nothing crazy LOL.
@Specter_of-the_OLED Sonic has always been a multi-media franchise, dating back to at least 1993.
@HammerGalladeBro YOU KNOW WHAT THEY SAY, THE MORE THE MERRIER!
Mm’kay that’s cool. Wait. A tails solo movie? Oh dear my sister would love that. (Her fave character is tails)
I would rather see a Sega Cinematic Universe.
@Specter_of-the_OLED
What do you mean, I loved sonic underground. Made in 1999. And definitely not a video game.
I mean the first movie wasn't that great anyway, idk where the potential is at - I see this as the next LEGO Movie franchise in that it'll fizzle out over the next few years due to over-saturation.
Also, go watch Uncharted
@ItalianBaptist Don't forget that Toho did the same for their Godzilla film series. And they did that as far as 1962 and onwards. The Showa series also linked many other "Non-Godzilla" films too.
Same for the Millenium series.
The only cinematic universe I care about is the Monsterverse. Nothing else. That said...they really NEED take time to plan things in the future carefully. Just rushing into is gonna everything to be a jumbo mess.
Exactly the same as when HP or Hunger games were a huge hit, everybody wanted to adapt their YA novel into a trilogy of movies. Then all of them bombed and the trend faded away.
Assuming he knows what a cinematic universe is, I'm expecting Knuckle's Chaotix, Tails' Adventure, and Shadow films.
I can’t endorse this, but I also can’t think why not..
@blindsquarel give up your children , seperate
Getting tired of all these attempts for a cinematic universe, not every franchise needs one.
The world would be a better place without all of these so-called "cinematic universes"
It’s exciting and all but Feels like it could end all so sudden if something fails
Can we just stop with this cinematic universe crap?
I'm happy that Sonic turned out to be a decent movie for once.
So why the rush to burn it out completely?
The movie succeeded because the studio listened to feedback, took the time to course correct into something people wanted to see and low and behold, people actually did see it.
'Movie producer seeking a return on his investment tries to claim his films are as grandiose as Marvel's.'
Multiverse is where it's at, so I'm waiting for Sonic vs Monkey Kong. Yes, I said 'Monkey'.
A 3rd movie that has a good take on Sonic Adventure 2 would be dope. Would love to see that. Especially if it has some cool remix of City Escape and live and learn!
It saddens me Sonic isn't much as video game icon anymore seems to be doing well for comics, and TV shows. I remember my childhood been nothing but Sonic games more than mario games now because of Sonic 06 that ruined Sonic reputation I dont even like the looks of new sonic game which is frontier just looks like BOTW clone wish we got Sonic adventure 3.
They should slow down before doing own Cinema universe its not Marvel or DC but not everything needs one yes first film got successful but it was pretty generic story however second film looks promising because of poster and trailer.
As long as Elise doesn’t show up
@Aurumonado In spite of my previous cynicism, this would be amazing and I’d be there for it
Uh... Love Sega, and I'll be seeing Sonic 2 opening weekend, but... Sonics' side characters aren't deep or interesting enough to carry their own movies. They only work when they are together, dynamically interacting and playing off each other. They're an ensemble. A solo Tails movie sounds like a horrible idea. (Sorry Tails fans.)
I only want to say: Milky, milky...
A proper Chaotix movie would be freakin awesome. Also, I always say it but Amy needs to be a character in Sonic movies. A CD-esque Metal Sonic & Amy plotline in the third would be brilliant... especially if they give her her more modern hammer so she can at least slightly defend herself rather than just being a "damsel in distress".
I've seen lots of positive sounding reviews for the second film from people who watched the previews. Its quite clear that the more mediocre reviews (which notably, still contain positive notes and don't completely rip it apart) are from film reviewers who aren't big Sonic fans, so maybe aren't as enthralled by more characters and situations from the games being included. I couldn't be more excited to see it
I've often said to folks that Sonic was a great character in bad games. Maybe Sonic's true niche has always been outside of video games. The games are no longer the core product, they're the aftereffect of other media.
So Mario, Sonic and Pokemon get multiple chances for films. the latter 2 succeeded with the Mario one not known yet. But Zelda or Metroid, the games with the universe, lore, mythos, and movie DNA don't? Maybe they'll follow suit depending on that Mario Movie. If they do, hopefully by a different studio that has experience with the genres and kind of universes these games take place in.
Sonic 2 Post Credits scene possibilites:
-Shadow
-Amy
-Super Sonic looking down at himself like "tf is this"
