When Sonic's original on-screen look was first revealed, there was an uproar from fans around the world.
Fortunately, Sega and Paramount Pictures listened to this feedback, made some changes to the blue blur's appearance, and the film ended up being a huge success. It seems this trend has continued with the second film after fans voiced some issues with the promotional poster for the upcoming sequel.
The voice actor of Tails, Colleen O'Shaughnessey was not credited alongside the Sonic, Knuckles and Dr Robotnik. Sega and co have now revised the poster to include Tails and even Tika Sumpter - who plays the wife of James Marsden's character in the film.
Here's a look at the before and after...

It’s a Sonic movie, they could put even more names/credits around the edges on there, it’s not gonna break hollywood if they did lol
I was pretty annoyed when they didn't put her name on the poster. She is the only voice actor/actress to come from the games, and they didn't even put her name on there.
But they fixed it, and its nice to see them wanting these movies to actually do well, I mean come on they re did sonic's design, and most movies would never do that.
Seems like fans should just make the movie if it's this easy to influence the studio. Make it weird, everybody. I've seen your deviantarts
Pretty clear cut that this is the right decision. This is the character I’m most excited for in the movie, I could care less about the human ones and I know Ben Schwartz and Jim Carrey will kill it, this is what we need to see.
Good call. Colleen's voice is too iconic to be left out
At the risk of instigating, it seems especially dubious that the two names they originally left out were two women. Yeah, the guys are "bigger names", but it kinda makes the point of a couple of perpetual problems in Hollywood.
Good that they listened to the fans here, though. How wild would it be if these Sonic movies were the thing to start fixing some of the rougher parts of Hollywood business decisions?
March 31st? I thought it was coming in April?
Being named on the poster is normally part of contract negotiations. I would guess it was something that was never offered. Great that they added them, though. If their characters are on the poster, it seems their names should be too.
@bstoppel That’s what I thought too. If you’re on the poster, common courtesy says you get your name on there too.
How come Dr. Robotnik's still not fat yet? There's a reason why the Japanese call him Dr. Eggman ya know. Cause he shapes like an egg. You can make him fat and still had Jim Carrey voice him.
Now that's something worth whining to the studio about! Good job, The Internet!
@DTFaux It might be the women thing, but it's also indicative of a problem with voice actors in general. If you look at the poster for Michael Bay's Transformers, for instance, you'll see Shia LeBouf, and Megan Fox, but not Peter Cullen. The only time the voice actors get a shout out is when they happen to also be a big pull, like Ben Schwartz.
@DTFaux
I personally feel like that's a stretch, but maybe I'm wrong. We all have our subjective experiences, and as a dude, I'm sure there are female issues I'll never be able to fully grasp without living though it, and vice versa. Whether it's a warranted reaction or not, I think it's a discussion worth having, and nothing in your comment was really provocative, so people aught to be willing to listen.
As for your second paragraph--ikr? The Sonic franchise has received a LOT of flack over the years, and rightfully so. But the movies are strangely setting a Hollywood precedent about actually listening to fan feedback, which is so important in any industry. I hope this will become the standard moving forward. Maybe get WB to cancel Teen Titans Go! and renew the original series, for example, lol.
I'm shocked that the Sonic movie franchise actually succeeded. Kudos to them for listening to fan feedback and doing something about it before we got stuck with the weird Stretch Armstrong Sonic.
From what I heard, there’s some bureaucracy in what names go on a movie poster’s credits and where they’re positioned, so its neat that they changed it.
The point of being selective with cast names on a movie poster is to point out the most expensive of the cast; i.e. those most likely to generate ticket sales.
Ironically, Colleen O'Shaughnessy's name is far more likely to turn my head, but I am not in the majority here (and she would have been paid mere peanuts compared to the top-billed cast).
This is nothing more than an empty gesture to appease noisy fans.
@Silly_G But lets be honest, how often do movies actually change something people complain about? Because I don't think anyone thought they would change sonics design, even tho they really wanted them to.
You might be right about it being an empty gesture, but I think they actually want the movies to do well.
@DTFaux I don't think it's because she's a woman I thinks it's because she's not a big Hollywood name still a ***** thing to do not including her originally
They are missing the voice actors for my language.
@nessisonett not at all, it's part of the contract negotiation, which will be completely separate from the poster design itself.
It's why you often see names across the top out of sync with the order of the faces on the poster, as even the position (billing) of the names is part of the negotiation.
It's nice that they've updated it here, but it's an awkward precedent to set.
@DTFaux same conclusion I’ve drawn and the fact they added two female names would suggest the criticism included the fact all four actors names were male. It’s a shame this stuff needs pointing out really at this point.
No Amy Rose? Is this like Batman where they don’t want to introduce too many characters?
They also dialed back on the green glow from what I assume to be a chaos emerald. :v
Naming rights have a lot more to do with contract negotiations than anything else.
@Would_you_kindly No, there is no spite here. Top billed actors are put on a poster so that consumers can be attracted to their favorite actors. It is in no way associated with spite or favoritism.
It's nice they changed it but I hope the change is also in the printed versions of the poster ( at movie theaters, etc.).
