Update [Wed 10th Aug, 2022 02:00 BST]: This special digital exhibition is now live. You can look at it from now until October 22nd. It details the life, history and art of the series, and includes commentary and insights from over 50 artists.
Original article [Sat 23rd Jul, 2022 03:45 BST]: One part of the Pokémon Trading Card game that might not always get as much appreciation as it deserves is the absolutely stunning artwork on each card. Different artists over the years have created plenty of magnificent and diverse imagery to keep each series feeling fresh.
To celebrate all of this stunning artwork, The Pokémon Company has announced it will be hosting a special online illustration exhibition from August 10th until October 22nd. You'll be able to enjoy it from the comfort of your own home. It'll include commentary and insights from 50 artists, including Megumi Mizutani and Akira Egawa. Here's the rundown courtesy of the PR:
"The exhibition features three distinct themes that fans can explore: Life, History, and Artist. As indicated by the name, Life provides a glimpse of the habitats and routines of Pokémon; History traces the evolution of Pokémon TCG illustrations since their beginnings in 1996; and Artist shows the different approaches that artists take to capturing a single Pokémon.
"Want a closer look at the artwork? Select the card you’re interested in to better view details you might not previously have noticed. And to get a better understanding of what the artist was thinking when they created the card, the exhibition features comments from the creators who designed each piece on display. With 50 artists each commenting on one of their illustrations, it’s a rare and exciting opportunity to learn more about the talented minds behind the art. The exhibition includes pieces from artists including Megumi Mizutani, Akira Egawa, and many more."
In related news, the Pokémon Trading Card Live beta went live in select locations around the globe earlier this week. This exhibition announcement also follows on from The Pokémon Company seeking someone to archive history. It seems it was able to fill the position in the end.

This game holds a special place in my childhood, I made a very good friend that I still hang out with often over these cards. They're even fun to collect still, even though i don't purchase near as many as i did.
wowzers in me trousers.
Card art is probably the only reason I collected them. These and Magic tg
show off the kyogre+groudon legend card please
that thing is awesome
This is great - but why have an expiration date on a website? Surely Pokemon can afford to host the site until people become permanently bored with it - many years down the road.
Anyone know how many Pokemon Go cards there are out currently in the wild?
Can't find the answer online and this seems as good a place as any to ask.
@Franklin You can go to PTCGO and sort by set and see them all. The Pokemon Go Lunatone/Solrock deck is dominating the Meta currently. The only surefire combo for it is a really good Dark deck. My Steel deck is almost useless with all the ability nullifying cards in the Go set.
These actually would be great as an nft project.
@Ironcore Nothing would be good as an NFT anything
I've been skimming through the Life section there before coming here but man, seeing all these highly detailed scans of the art on display is so good (the Fomantis one especially has so much detail that you wouldn't even normally think about). I'll definitely be making a few visits here later on, you can count on that.
I went via artist and clicked on a couple of artists that I follow, but there's just 1 picture, no commentary and not even the artists name, let alone bio or related cards.
