Hamster has today announced that the second game in Arika's tough Tetris series, Tetris The Absolute Grandmaster 2 Plus, will be dropping down onto the Switch via the Arcade Archives collection on 1st June (thanks, Gematsu).
The game's predecessor, Tetris The Grand Master, was added to the Archives at the end of last year and this second entry promises much of the same challenging twists on the classic block-aligning format. Alongside the split-second gameplay of the series' Master Mode, this version of the sequel also adds a Normal Mode for more casual players and new challenges in the shape of TGM+ and T.A. Death which adds a rising garbage mechanic and increased gravity respectively.
Tetris The Absolute Grandmaster 2 was originally launched in Japanese arcades in 2000, before receiving the PLUS upgrade a few months later. It will make its way over to the Acarde Archives collection next month, where it can be purchased on the Switch eShop for £6.29 / $7.99 / €6.99.
Will you be picking up this throwback title? Drop down to the comments and let us know.

Yessss, this is an absolute classic. Still can’t get anywhere near M never mind GM on this via MAME.
That's fantastic news, the TGM titles have been legally inaccessible for so long now, to finally have the second of the three available is wonderful.
okay yeah this one i gotta buy
I want this. But I also don’t wanna snap my switch in half. Decisions…
Cool I suppose. But I'm alright with Tetris Effect over here.
I have the first Tetris Grandmaster Arcade Archives on my Switch, and it's one of my favorite score chasers on the whole system. It's pretty tough, but not in an unforgiving way.
This sequel, however, looks punishing, and I'm looking forward to yelling aggressively at my screen while playing it 😁
Hamster's tireless efforts have greatly improved my gaming life!
I enjoy the first one so probably may pick this one up too while enjoying the Tetris movie.
Another Tetris for my Switch, can never have enough of them. I'm convinced TGM3 is coming as well, it's just a matter of when.
Still missing Puyo Puyo Tetris 1 and G-MODE Archives 33: Tetris Diamond, though.
EDIT: Come to think of it, what are the chances of Arika managing to finally release the unreleased Tetris: The Grand Master 4 – The Masters of Round/The Grand Master 2015?
You’re missing a ‘the’ in the title. And what an excellent title it is!
Another Tetris game on the Switch?
I absolutely love the "Arcade Archives" by Hamster. Donkey Kong, Nintendo's Versus titles like Vs. Super Mario Bros., Tetris: The Grand Master, both Rolling Thunder titles, and so on...
My Switch library has an Arcade Archives group. Now, if only Nintendo would allow you to either put specific groups on your Switch main screen, or be able to jump to all your groups from the main screen. The fact that you have to go to "All Software" makes the grouping feature largely irrelevant, unless you have a boatload of digital titles to sift through to find a specific one. That's a very specific case usage.
NES Tetris is still my favorite of all but glad to see another port coming.

"Now, if only Nintendo would allow you to either put specific groups on your Switch main screen, or be able to jump to all your groups from the main screen."
nope! that would make it a folder, and too many people have asked for that feature for nintendo to put it in, now. what would that look like? 😋
Those hamster ports are really great. Crossing my fingers for a classic from data east called Tumblepop really loved that back in arcades as a kid. Would be instant purchase for me
How much Tetris does a guy really need? I don't care for the multiplayer aspect of it personally so Tetris 99 is lost on me personally, and otherwise I already have Tetris Effect Connected on my Switch. (And Tetris on the GameBoy application I suppose.) That's all the Tetris I personally need on my Switch.
Cool for the fans though of course. If they make a followup to Tetris DS though with all the fun Nintendo references thrown about in there then I'd probably get that though.
Anyone on the fence with the two of these Tetris games should download them as there’s a good chance of them being delisted when the rights expire.
Why hasn’t UK/EU got MetroCross?
@ecco6t9 exactly my thoughts! Will get it on day one.
We desperately need Hamster to get permission to port Sega and Midway's old coin-ops while the Switch is still around (Sega sure doesn't seem to care about doing it themselves). Nintendo doesn't have an exactly spotless history when it comes to backwards compatibility on new hardware, and the Switch's wealth of Arcade classics and schmups alone make it worth holding onto if eShop purchases don't carry forward; Sega and Midway would really round out those categories.
The more games on Switch in general and even more so classic ones like this one are always welcome!
@ecco6t9 Didn't even consider that, thanks for the tip, I'll get both as soon as I can then!
since they are bringing this over, I'd like to the Tetris plus games too.
