UNSIGHTED (Switch eShop)
$9.99 (-50%)
Unsighted combines some very familiar ideas: it’s a top-down, roguelite, sci-fi Metroidvania with a strong 16-bit aesthetic. Its time-is-ticking, post-apocalyptic scenario is brought to life by the enchanting palettes of its pixel art, making a world you want to explore, full of characters you want to know. Far from punishing, it leans more on the 'lite' than the 'rogue', letting fun prevail – as it will, thanks to the addictive rhythm of the controls, backed by punchy sounds. The cooperative multiplayer is icing on top of an already well-iced cake. Combining flavours of Super Nintendo classics with modern playability, Unsighted is the game 1995 desperately wanted to make but just didn’t know how.
Cuphead (Switch eShop)
$13.99 (-30%)
Cuphead was an absolute masterpiece when it originally launched on Xbox One and nothing has been sacrificed in its move to the Switch. A run-and-gun boss battler dressed up like a 1930s Fleischer or Disney animated short, it’s the same visually jaw-dropping, aurally delightful, knuckle-whiteningly difficult game it was on Microsoft’s console and the Switch’s library is all the better for its presence. Its focus on intense boss battles won’t be to everyone’s tastes, but as long as you know what you’re getting yourself into we can’t recommend it enough. Just look at it! And the Delicious Last Course is the icing on the cake, too.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge (Switch eShop)
$17.49 (-30%)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge is the best Turtles beat 'em up ever made, and a faster, better-looking, and arguably more entertaining affair than even Streets of Rage 4. It looks delicious, sounds superb, and rekindles childhood memories beyond all expectation, time-warping you back to 1987. Its combat system is so much fun to mine that you feel compelled to keep coming back to try new strategies, and with its awesome co-op multiplayer, the experience evolves again and again. Like any beat 'em up, it does get repetitive as you enter the last third, but that’s more a fault of the concept than the game. Shredder’s Revenge really is an unprecedented shell-ebration.
The Dimension Shellshock DLC adds new fighters and a Survival mode, too, and if you can't get enough of your Turtle-filled co-op brawlers, there's also Digital Eclipse's TMNT: The Cowabunga Collection, which features a boatload of Konami classics that'll keep you busy for hours.
Speaking of Streets of Rage 4...
Streets of Rage 4 (Switch eShop)
$12.49 (-50%)
Streets of Rage 4 is the very best the series has ever been. Its hand-drawn graphics breathe new life into Wood Oak City and its inhabitants, the soundtrack is outstanding and the combat feels better than ever. Lizardcube, Guard Crush Games and Dotemu managed to completely modernise the look and feel of Streets of Rage, expanding on the experience without losing sight of what made the original games so popular to begin with – and the handful of additions made to the action here serve only to enhance the classic core gameplay, resulting in one of the best side-scrolling beat 'em ups we've played in a long time.
And the Mr X Nightmare DLC is pretty tasty, too. A truly fantastic brawler.
Dragon Ball FighterZ (Switch)
$9.59 (-84%)
Dragon Ball FighterZ on the Switch is, simply put, one of the best fighting games we've seen on the system. Arc System Works went the extra mile in capturing the essence of the source material and distilled it into an incredible brawler that has lost nothing in the transition to Nintendo's hybrid console. The stunning visuals, intense action, and easy-to-master controls make FighterZ a game all fans of the genre should have in their library. If you only play this kind of game casually, it remains a must-own.
Persona 5 Royal (Switch)
$29.99 (-50%)
Persona 5 Royal is the very definition of ‘required reading' for JRPG fans. A deep and moving story, stylish presentation, amazing soundtrack, and decision-driven gameplay all combine to make for an unforgettable and exceptional experience that proves itself to be every bit deserving of the hype and praise it’s already received. While those who have played this elsewhere may want to consider whether Switch's portability is enough of a selling point to justify paying full price to double dip, it suits it perfectly. Persona 5 Royal remains a game that we absolutely recommend you pick up as soon as you can. This easily stands as one of the very best RPGs of the last decade and you’d be doing yourself a disservice to miss out.
Enter the Gungeon (Switch eShop)
$4.49 (-70%)
Enter The Gungeon is a brilliantly tactile, endlessly replayable twin-stick roguelike that sits right up there with the very best indie games on Nintendo Switch. With satisfying combat, random levels, and an endless supply of inventive weapons, items, and secrets, it's always a total joy to play. Yet another modern indie classic found a natural home on Nintendo's console.
Gone Home (Switch eShop)
$4.49 (-70%)
Several years on, there’s no denying the cultural and developmental impact Gone Home has had on the game industry. Both as a near-perfect exercise in interactive storytelling and an example of how to handle complex and very real ideas in a game, only Life is Strange has ever come close to matching its significance. While there still isn’t much ‘game’ to be found here, the story you unravel through exploring an empty home will stay with you long after you’ve put down your Switch.
Rogue Legacy 2 (Switch eShop)
$14.99 (-40%)
Rogue Legacy 2 is — to put it simply — a banger. While it’s not a game-changing revelation, it manages to follow up on everything that made the original great and makes it bigger and better. Even once you've bested the bosses, you've barely scratched the surface of what this has to offer, considering the in-depth New Game Plus mode and the wealth of content contained across all available classes and options. Whether you loved the original Rogue Legacy or never played it but like a good roguelike, this is a game you simply can't afford to miss.
The original Rogue Legacy is also fantastic, and also on sale for $2.99 (-80%).
Kentucky Route Zero: TV Edition (Switch eShop)
$12.49 (-50%)
Kentucky Route Zero: TV Edition is the full and complete Kentucky Route Zero experience. A magical realist point-and-click adventure that takes you on a beguiling journey to a place that exists both below and beyond. It's a trip to be savoured, ruminated on; no need to rush. Each act here brings with it some new perspective, new places, and people to forge deep connections with. You may be confused, even bewildered by your initial steps down into the subterranea that exists somewhere beneath this version of Kentucky but, by the end of your journey, you'll have made friends and memories and been escorted through a rich and beautiful experience that will stay with you much longer than you may expect.
Luigi's Mansion 3 (Switch)
$39.99 (-33%)
Luigi’s Mansion 3 is not only a graphical powerhouse and showcase for Next Level Games’ unrivalled mastery of video game animation, it’s also an immense helping of spooky fun as well. The amount of care and consideration poured into every facet of the game is abundantly clear, and it all results in one of the most enjoyable and attractive Switch titles that launched in 2019, and the undisputed high point of this underappreciated series.
The Messenger (Switch eShop)
$4.99 (-75%)
2D side-scrolling action games like The Messenger may be a dime a dozen these days, but you’d be missing out on something special by passing this one up. Featuring a surprisingly long campaign, an incredible soundtrack, and tight, challenging level designs, The Messenger stands as a shining example of great game design. We’d highly recommend you pick this one up; it’s the very definition of a modern classic.
Disco Elysium: The Final Cut (Switch eShop)
$13.99 (-65%)
Disco Elysium's narrative and dialogue, which was already wonderfully compelling in the base game, was given a massive boost thanks to the excellent voice acting introduced for the Final Cut. The gameplay features a host of branching paths for you to explore, and while the slow, methodical approach may turn a few people off, this is nevertheless one of the most well-told stories in any medium from the last few years. The performance issues at the time of our review slightly took the shine off things, but even with them present, Disco Elysium: The Final Cut was and is a triumph and stands as one of the best RPGs available on Switch.
Dusk (Switch eShop)
$13.99 (-30%)
Dusk is one hell of an impressive piece of software and possibly the single best Unity port to Switch we've ever seen, sidestepping typical performance problems and delivering a brilliant experience of a brilliant game. It's not as good a game as Quake, but almost nothing is. There's a relatively limited arsenal of weapons — they're all great, but there's no iconic gun here, just your usual pistol, shotty, assault rifle, explosives, et al. We're being churlish with our criticisms here, though — ultimately, Dusk is another absolute cracker in Switch's FPS roster.
Overboard! (Switch eShop)
$8.99 (-40%)
Where 80 Days was about the broad implications of travelling the entire globe, Overboard! focuses instead on the minutiae of a single day, and the intricacies of interaction. It's a glorious study in how to create a delicate Rube Goldberg machine of dialogue and dependencies, as a cast of mostly terrible people waltz around each other with ulterior motives and pre-existing feelings about everything, including our Veronica and dear, departed Malcolm. It's excellent: play it.
Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom (Switch)
$9.99 (-75%)
Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom is a tremendous accomplishment. It’s a gorgeous-looking game with a fantastic soundtrack and does its spiritual predecessors proud by nailing the Wonder Boy mechanics while still offering something that will appeal to modern audiences. As long as you can appreciate that it’s still very much an old-school game at heart and you’re going to get some 8-bit era platforming trickiness as a result, you’re going to thoroughly enjoy playing through this adventure for the 12-15 hours it’ll take you to beat it. It may not be Wonder Boy by name, but it’s definitely wonderful by nature.
Huntdown (Switch eShop)
$5.99 (-70%)
Huntdown is a delightfully detailed and expertly crafted throwback to old-school run 'n' gun arcade shooters. The 16-bit graphical style is immaculately recreated whilst adding lots of modern bells and whistles to proceedings, including a fantastic soundtrack and audio design, optional CRT filter, and an arsenal of heavy-duty weapons that chew scenery and enemies to pieces as your bounty hunter makes their way from boss fight to excellent boss fight. The flow of levels may be quite repetitive but the moment-to-moment gameplay, overall sense of fun that comes from the level of carnage you can dish out, surprising amount of hammy spoken dialogue, and constant pop-culture references all combine to make this one an easy recommendation, and another excellent addition to the Switch's action catalogue.
Sonic Mania (Switch eShop)
$9.99 (-50%)
Sonic Mania was a true return to form for the mascot, in his 2D 'Classic' guise at least. It celebrates the glory days of the original games while also enhancing their qualities and taking on new ideas. From new areas, imaginative second acts, and some delightful boss encounters, the development team poured a lot of passion and talent into the project. With new characters and modes added in the 'Plus' retail version (also available as DLC), some neat tweaks iron out some of the kinks present in the original release, but regardless of the version you pick up, it's one of the best 2D platformers in recent memory.
Bayonetta 3 (Switch)
$41.99 (-30%)
Bayonetta 3 cranks up the chaos, improves the combat, polishes the level design, and adds a ton of new mechanics to the mix, making for the very best entry in this storied series to date. PlatinumGames has absolutely nailed it this time around, carefully layering on more ways to engage enemies, piling on the OTT gameplay sequences, and giving us multiple protagonists without upsetting the balance of what makes these games amongst the very best examples of their genre. With solid performance in docked and handheld modes, impressive visuals, non-stop action, and a hugely replayable campaign that's a joy from start to finish, this really is a huge celebration of everything we love about Bayonetta, an action all-timer and one of the highlights of Switch's impressive library.
Unpacking (Switch eShop)
$9.99 (-50%)
Unpacking manages to do several things very well, all at the same time. It’s a touching story told through interaction, it provides the creative play space of a great dollhouse game, and it deftly applies established game design ideas from completely different genres. Its only real shortcoming is the repetition that is a necessary byproduct of landing its message. Effort has gone into making the controls satisfying on Switch, and the visual and sound design are delightful throughout, making Unpacking, like any sane person’s cutlery, absolutely top-drawer.

Just the 129 games then (lol) If someone was to suggest to me to buy 129 games, I would slap them in the chops hahahah!
I already own 35 of those, so I guess I only need to buy 94 games. 😝
Now how many games on sale scored 8/10? 🤔
Good list. Persona 4 Golden has the wrong price though. Says $5.99, which I immediately jumped to buy then saw it’s actually $12.99.
129 games I should pick up?! I've learned today that NintendoLife is very ambitious about their gaming!
Thanks for narrowing down that list!
13 Sentinels came at a time when it felt like every JRPG and action game had a trashy story. But after surviving Daemon X Machina and Astral Chain's maladies, 13 Sentinels was the right tonic. I can't recommend it enough if you love good sci-fi.
Off this list, In Other Waters looks like one to nab, and I probably should pick up Ghost Trick. Pillars of Eternity would be nice if I had 70 hours of gaming time, but I did just start playing Yakuza 7.
We'll see. The fiscally-responsible part of me is telling me to skip the sale altogether because I have all the games in the world to play, but he's a narc.
@awp69 Thanks for the spot, I've zapped that.
@GrailUK Ha, yeah you can definitely tell we're deep into the console cycle when a sale throws up this many amazing games. Most people will likely own a fair number of these already, but as @FishyS says, add in all the 8/10s and this would destroy us all.
And let's not forget that 7/10 is a respectable score, too! Just so much quality on this console.
I was caught off guard by just how many games were on this list... and then I was caught even more off guard by how many of these I already own. Hahaha!
I have about 280 games for my Switch and I have had only enough time to complete about 20 of those. I think the 260 games I have left will more than do for now. Though I'm still going to pick up DQ the dark Prince when it gets released on the 1/12/23 and batman trilogy. I'm still currently playing through, star ocean second story, XC3, Ocotopath traveller, Red dead, Mario bros wonder, FF12, Trails from Zero, TotK and super mario bros wonder. I'm also going to buy turok 3 next Thursday because I love nightdive games and there remasters.
Would rather have top 10 lists of games on sale, per genre.
Buy Windjammers 2 right now, people!
Only game I really want right now is Star Ocean Second Story R, but guess it’s too soon for a sale on it. Maybe at Christmas.
So many great games on here. Tetris Effect is one of the few games that never leaves my Switch. It's absolutely perfect, whether I want to play the surprisingly emotional "Journey" mode, chill out in one of the "Effect" modes, or give myself an ego check in one of several PVP modes.
As someone who has been playing Tetris since it released on the NES, this really does feel like the ultimate version. It even includes a carefully reproduced "classic" mode so I can see just how much better kid me was at that tough-as-nails NES version of Tetris. How did I get so much worse with age??
Huntdown, Huntdown, Huntdown, Huntdown, Huntdown, Huntdown, Huntdown, Huntdown, Huntdown, Huntdown, Huntdown, Huntdown..
If you're looking for a great platformer currently on sale you should try out Juiced!
@DonierGunad you raise an interesting point….i have so many games, it’s just not possible to complete all of them. I really need to taper down buying games and appreciate what i have more…,
@Zaruboggan In Other Waters was one of my two surprise obsessions this year, the other being Dredge. I recommend both very, very highly.
In Other Waters is pretty brilliant in making you discover every facet of the game, including the interface and controls.
Dredge is probably one of the most bizarre and fun combinations of fishing sim and brilliantly realized Lovecraftian horror experiences.
13 Sentinels absolutely blew me away. I cannot recommend it enough!! Truly one of a kind game, definitely pick it up if you are craving something new.
Do yourself a favor and grab The Messenger at around $5. That's a deal and a half.
Just a bunch of games nobody buys anymore. No Mario games on sale. Just once can we have some Mario games 50 percent off. Even 30 percent off would be crazy. Best I seen was 10 to 20 percent off once r twice a year. You suck Nintendo when it comes to sales in first party games
It’s too soon for a Dave the diver discount but that’s really what I’ve been waiting for. From the demo it’s worth a buy outright but I’m waiting to see if we get a physical release still. On here is a lot of good games anyone could consider but I’m a glutton that has most I’d care to have and most I have not had the time to complete.
I picked up Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Portal 1&2, Sonic Frontiers, and Video Kid
@IronMan30 that is exactly what I did! actually.. I grabbed:
quake 2, the messenger, duke nukem, portail 1&2 and roguelegacy 1..
since I'm struggling to buy games on colombian eshop, I gotta see what to do for the rest of my wishlist..
I'm sorry, but what??? Nintendo Life do not need these sensationalist phrases.
We just have Torto Arado and La Plus Secrète Mémoire des Hommes in the last years and it is just absurd to say that this game is in the same level as those books. This is simply wrong. Just like saying that the Sun is cold.
@RavenFellBlade I did end up snagging In Other Waters! I've played a little bit so far, and I'm really keen to find out what's going on!
Good to see Thumper get a mention here.
Cool sale, man
Couldn't just list the game titles, the non-sale price and the sale price? Maybe a link to a review.
The pictures and paragraphs describing the game makes this needlessly bloated.
Thanks to the Nintendo Switch Online Game Trial for Fae Farm, I downloaded the game to continue playing my save file with the 25% discount it currently has as part of this sale on the Canadian eShop. I also used up some Gold Coins to knock another $20 off. It was quite the steal and the game is a lot of fun....especially with such a huge discount!
It seems like maybe too many 9's are being given out!
Yeah, no thanks. I blew over $5000 this past weekend, most of it buying a custom-built laptop. I'm not strapped for cash, but I shouldn't be throwing money around all willy-nilly.
It couldn't be 130? 🙄 Seriously, who started this trend? IGN? 😒
@Tirza With 130-odd titles, it's unclear what you're referencing.
