It's being branded as a definitive version of the game and only it is getting ported to other platforms, while the original remains Switch exclusive.

As such, I'd be very surprised if it's a completely different story using the same assets, as Apocalypse was. Most likely, it'll be an expanded version like P5 Royal. I'd also expect no upgrade path for existing owners and not even a way to import the save file, because that's what they did there.

...will I buy it though? Probably

😆 Ya buddy we know. You're in good company. We're all gonna rebuy it lol

@Matt_Barber
It's a split in the story around half way in, and that split is a completely new campaign with roughly 80 hours in content.

The original campaign is still available to choose if you wish, but the Vengeance path will be the new campaign path this game brings.

Yeah, it sounds like a great package for those who didn't buy the original release.

Still, for those who did, it'd be nice to get an upgrade path and save file transfer so that it's possible to get stuck straight into the new content when it drops. Other developers do this, just not Atlus, and we are talking about a game that's only a little over two years old here, not a remaster from an entirely different generation of hardware.

Hopefully they'll prove me wrong but otherwise it'll probably go on my Steam wishlist to be picked up whenever there's a deep sale on.

Honestly, I'm just glad it's not exclusive. Can't wait to play this on my Steam Deck. SMT V always begged for stronger hardware.

Hopefully the story in Vengeance mode is less disjointed and underdeveloped as well.

SMT V is so good in so many ways. Maybe this is the chance it needs to shine.

Physical release confirmed for every platform (except the Switch) on the Official Atlus West account on X.

Edit: Physical release in Japan. Still waiting to see an ESRB cover.

Nice

I didn't see the reply on X because I'm not a member and I'm firewalled.

Now I'm wondering if there'll be a collector's edition.

They fixed the aggressive level scaling in SMT V for the re-release!

Finally! Builds actually matter again. Low level runs will be doable again.

It was the absolute worst aspect of the original.

Still interested to see how the new demons are distributed throughout the story. I assumed they were exclusive to the new Shinjuku region, but trailers suggest otherwise?

Just interested to see the final lineup. A lot of them seem to be returning from Soul Hackers 2, which released between SMT V and Vengeance.

There a reason why Shin Megami V is at a low price at $19.99 at Walmart stores? Just wondering since after celebrating my niece's high school graduation I went back to my place in town then did a little shopping at the Walmart store to look around since its been awhile since I've been at the Walmart store.

noticed in the Nintendo Switch game cabinet that the Shin Megami V game is pretty cheap at 19.99 bucks

Game not that great or something to be at that low of a price?

@XandertheWise Well the original game is being delisted on the eShop, PS Store etc because Atlus considers Vengeance to btw the true version of Shin Megami Tensei V, since it renders the original completely obsolete. Your store is probably putting the original on clearance to get rid of its inventory before Vengeance arrives.

The game is good, it’s just that Vengeance looks galaxies better than the original, what’s the point?

Not to mention it's pretty common practice from many publishers to put games on sale for cheaps over time. Even GotY-quality titles like God of War, which I was able to buy for $10 in 2020 or thereabouts.

the point? maybe you should back off with that attitude. I was just asking why Shin Megami V is at 19.99 at the Walmart store. I know nothing about this Vengeance in the first place. Im surprised to see a game like Shin Megami V in the game glass cabinet to be at that low of a price while the either Nintendo Switch games are from 29.99 to 50ish bucks

@XandertheWise I don't think there was any attitude there, they're just saying that the new SMTV Vengeance is an enhanced version of the game so the original release is probably being sold off at a reduced price.

@XandertheWise Chill out, that wasn't even aimed at you. The 'what's the point' refers to how Atlus sees the original SMT V, and how it's been outdone by Vengeance.

Regardless of how relevant the original will be in a month - it's a great game.
Sure it's a little niche, and not my favourite of the series - but I still played it for 100+ hours. I feel like I got my money's worth at full price.
-And I'm someone that only buys one or two full price games a year, those aren't decisions I make lightly.

In terms of buying it for your niece? I don't know what she likes to play. There's a chance it could be too weird or difficult.
On the other hand she could love it, but then she will have an inferior version. The DLC isn't going to be available for long, and even then it's included in Vengeance.

Safe to say that you will know her best, but it's not a safe bet like Mario/Zelda/Animal Crossing when it comes to a gift. It's great though
